Passively mode-locked laser using an entirely centred erbium-doped fiber

    Get PDF
This paper describes the setup and experimental results for an entirely centred erbium-doped fiber laser with passively mode-locked output. The gain medium of the ring laser cavity configuration comprises a 3 m length of two-core optical fiber, wherein an undoped outer core region of 9.38 μm diameter surrounds a 4.00 μm diameter central core region doped with erbium ions at 400 ppm concentration. The generated stable soliton mode-locking output has a central wavelength of 1533 nm and pulses that yield an average output power of 0.33 mW with a pulse energy of 31.8 pJ. The pulse duration is 0.7 ps and the measured output repetition rate of 10.37 MHz corresponds to a 96.4 ns pulse spacing in the pulse train

The comparison of dual wavelength fiber laser spectrum in SMF and HNLF by utilizing laser diode

    Get PDF
A dual-wavelength erbium-doped fiber (EDF) fiber ring laser in single mode fiber and highly nonlinear fiber is demonstrated and both optical spectrums are compared at 400 mA of Laser Diode (LD) output. The fiber ring laser cavity incorporated sagnac loop had been applied for the laser to lase two wavelengths simultaneously due to high birefringent in polarizaton-maintaining fiber (PMF). Experimental results show that, owing to the contributions of two degenerate fourwave mixings (FWM) in the HNLF and the dual-wavelength proposed fiber laser is quite stable with small fluctuation power in 1.93 dB within 24 minutes in HNLF

One of added values to compete in work and business is mastering English\u27s Language. To support the needs of an online teaching tool that can be accessed anywhere and is easy to use, an online teaching tool that uses Indonesian is made with an attractive multimedia display so that users do not feel bored and can monitor the development of the value achieved. The material presented is based on the structure tested in TOEFL. The method used in designing these applications is the waterfall method, ranging from data collection through questionnaires and comparative analysis of similar applications and then proceed with the design and development of applications and user satisfaction evaluation. It is expected that these applications can help in improving the English language proficiency as measured by TOEFL score achieved

Pemetaan Aset Penghidupan Petani Dalam Mengelola Hutan Rakyat Di Kabupaten Gunungkidul (the Farmer Livelihood Asset Mapping on Community Forest Management in Gunungkidul District)

Farmers manage natural resources require asset. Farmer livelihood assets (human resources, natural resources, financial, physical and social) greatly affect to the achievement of the livelihood objectives. The objective of this study is to measure the level of livelihood assets used by farmers in managing community forests. Data collected by survey in 6 village in Gunungkidul i.e. Nglanggeran, Katongan, Dengok, Sodo, Girimulyo and Jepitu village by interviewing 30 respondents each village, so the total respondents are 180 respondents. Weighted scoring technique used to measure the level of assets used by farmers in managing community forests based on Multicriteria Analysis (MCA). The results showed that the community forest farmers in Batur Agung zone (The northern part of Gunungkidul) using the asset based on its priority: human resource asset, social, natural resources, physical and financial. While the priority asset of farmers in Ledok Wonosari (middle of Gunungkidul) are social assets, human resources, financial, physical and natural resources. For farmers in Pegunungan Seribu (The South part of Gunungkidul) priority assets that used are physical assets, financial, social, human resource and natural resources

Tools and concepts of journey towards a natural capitalism with special reference to environmental impact assessment, life cycle assessment and industrial ecology.

The evolution of tool applications and approaches for industrial-environmentally related management systems in minimizing their impact on natural environment has facilitated the concept of journey to natural capitalism, notably, on physical flows and the accumulation of substances and materials due to industrial activities. These environmental management tools include risk assessment, resource accounting, costbenefit analysis, environmental impact statement, and environmental impact assessment. In addition, environmental management system (EMS) series of standards derived fromSociety of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry (SETAC) and International Standard of Organization (ISO) Technical Committee 207 initiatives emphasizing on EMS, environmental auditing, life cycle assessment, ecolabeling, environmental performance evaluation, design for environment and climate change. Recent concept on industrial ecology (IE) was introduced and applied respectively into EMS for industrial sustainability. It is based on the integration of human dimension, industrial processes, and environmental concerns that perpetually mimics natural ecosystem processes. This paper describes how these theoretical frameworks of Environmental Impact Assessment(EIA) and Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) tools being developed and applied and subsequently used as central tenet in IE concept in meeting their objectives that indirectly could be further enhanced the journey towards natural capitalism

Anger mood detection based on face recognition and heartbeat

Anger is one of the feeling that showing strong resentment that can be found in facial expressions, body language, physiological responses and at times in public acts of aggression. So, this project has designed to examine the existence of the individual nature of anger using facial expression and heartbeat. The objective of this project is to warn and help people to control their temper. This can prevent the bad effect towards heart rate, blood pressure, levels of adrenaline and noradrenalin and other physical effects. Matlab-Image-processing is used to analyze facial expressions while heartbeat is measured using a heartbeat detector circuit. The Graphic User Interface (GUI) indicates the angry face result while the Liquid Crystal Display states the faster heartbeat when a person is angry

Genetic variation of selected Camellia sinensis (Cultivated Tea) varieties in Malaysia based on random amplified microsatellite (RAMs) markers

    Get PDF
Studies on the genetic variation among Camellia sinensis L. varieties (cultivated tea) in Malaysia were conducted by using RAMs markers. Six varieties were selected from Sungai Palas Boh Estate, Cameron Highlands and nine varieties were selected from Bukit Cheeding Boh Estate, Banting. These tea varieties were classified as resistant, intermediate, or susceptible varieties based on the level of infestation by the mosquito bug, Helopeltis theivora. DNA was extracted from the leaves of 225 individuals belonging to different varieties from the two populations. Four RAMs primers were used to evaluate the genetic variation in 15 varieties of tea. Distances were calculated based on Nei and Li’s (1979) similarity coefficients using the data from the RAMs markers. A cluster analysis employing UPGMA was done and the dendrogram grouped the tea varieties into two clusters with intermediate variety grouping and the resistant (the first cluster) or susceptible (the second cluster) varieties. The first cluster consisted of all the varieties from Cameron Highlands, except for BC223 (resistant) and 63/14 (resistant) from the Banting population, while the other clusters consisted of all the varieties from the Banting population, except for BC196 (resistant) from the Cameron Highlands population. The dendrogram showed that the genetic differences were based on the populations’ geographical distributions and partially based on their resistance towards attack by H. theivora
