    Open the doors to tourism or remain cautious: residents’ dilemma amidst a pandemic

    During a pandemic, residents of tourism destinations face the dilemma of whether to welcome tourists to help the economy rebound or to oppose their arrival to minimize the risk of contagion. This paper examines the influence of residents’ perception of the economic crisis triggered by the pandemic and the health risks associated with tourist arrivals on their attitudes towards tourism impacts and willingness to support tourism development. To this end, a novel model is tested using structural equation modelling (SEM). The potential moderating effect of belonging to certain population groups is also analysed, namely (i) having a household member linked to the tourism sector, (ii) residing in the city centre, and (iii) belonging to a COVID-19 risk group. Perceived risk of contagion was found to be a stronger predictor of residents’ support for tourism development than perception of the economic crisis; an effect that increases notably among residents of the most popular tourist areas of the city. These empirical findings provide useful information with a view to designing destination planning strategies during and after the pandemic

    Dataset for holiday rentals’ daily rate pricing in a cultural tourism destination

    This data article describes a holiday rental dataset from a medium-size cultural city destination. Daily rate and variables related to location, size, amenities, rating, and seasonality are highlighted as the main features. The data was extracted from Booking.com, legal registration of the accommodation (RTA) and Google Maps, among other sources. This dataset contains data from 665 holiday rentals offered as entire flat (rent per room was discarded), with a total of 1623 cases and 28 variables considered. Regarding data extraction, RTA is ordered by registration number, which is taken and, through a Google search with the following structure: "apartment registration no. + Booking + Seville", the holiday rental profile in Booking.com is found. Then, it is verified that both the address of the accommodation and the registration number match in RTA and Booking.com, proceeding with data extraction to a Microsoft Excel's file. Google Maps is used to determine the minutes spent walking from the accommodation to the spot of maximum tourist interest of the city. A price index based on the average price per square meter of real estate per district is also incorporated to the dataset, as well as a visual appeal rating made by the authors of every holiday rental based on its Booking.com photos profile. Only cases with complete data were considered. A statistics summary of all variables of the data collected is presented. This dataset can be used to develop an estimation model of daily prices of stay in holiday rentals through predetermined variables. Econometrics methodologies applied to this dataset can also allow testing which variables included affecting the composition of holiday rentals' daily rates and which not, as well as determining their respective influence on daily rates.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

    How to achieve economic development through tourism? Different ways for different economies: A new approach through fuzzy set qualitative comparative análisis

    Policy makers and tourism investors have a limited vision of how a certain level of tourism development is possible depending on country-specific conditions such as incomes and competitiveness factors. In this context, the aim of this research is to identify different strategies or solutions, based on different drivers of tourism competitiveness, that lead to tourism development in countries with different levels of per capita income. To this end, the Travel & Tourism Development Index will be used to answer the research questions raised. This paper proposes the use of an alternative methodology such as fuzzy set Qualitative Comparative Analysis (fsQCA). As a result, a total of eight different strategies which lead to tourism development have been identified for the different categories considered, identifying the key drivers to achieve such development for the different economies

    In the past years global efforts to increase access to financial services have been multiplied especially in certain countries and for certain groups, growing the interest in the construction of financial inclusive systems. The financial inclusion is analyzed, studying their different dimensions, its benefits, its priority character in recent times for many institutions and the obstacles to its development. In particular, attention has focused on its evolution in the region of Latin America and the Caribbean, proving that, in general it is a region with access to the developing financial system and in which inequalities in the social sphere still exist. However, a significant potential for improvement is emerging, especially as a result of the technological evolution and the effort of the institutions involved.Nos últimos anos multiplicáronse os esforzos a nivel mundial por favorecer o acceso aos servizos financeiros especialmente en determinados países e para determinados colectivos, incrementándose o interese pola construción de sistemas financeiros incluíntes. Neste trabajo analízase a inclusión financeira, estudando as súas diferentes dimensións, os beneficios que comporta, o seu carácter prioritario nos últimos tempos para multitude de organismos e os obstáculos ao seu desenvolvemento.     Associationism is composed by different ways of cooperation between companies. It can be reflected because of a variety of concepts which are not similar between them. Sometimes, those concepts are differentiated by slight nuances and sometimes, they do not. Paying attention to the concept and to the dissimilar ways of companies’ association is indispensable not to address to export consortium as a formula. The work presented here aims to make a review of the existing literature , both theoretical and case study that serves as a compilation for further empirical research. At work the following main findings contributions or wanted: provide an evolutionary interpretation of the concept of export consortium , gathering the main factors that lead the company to go abroad under this formula , analyze what is published on the survival in the time of export consortia , shed light on the different types of export consortia exist and a compilation of the major determinants of success or failure of this form of association.El asociacionismo lleva implícito multitud de fórmulas de cooperación entre empresas, dando lugar a diversos conceptos que en ocasiones pueden ser muy distintos entre sí y, en otras, se diferencian por escasos o pequeños matices. Dentro de este contexto y de las distintas opciones de asociación de empresas que existen -tanto en origen como en destino-, es oportuno abordar la fórmula de consorcio de exportación, realizando un análisis para aclarar el concepto y diferenciarlo de otras modalidades con cierta similitud. Se trata de una vía de acceso a mercados, apropiada para las pymes, que carece de estudios de investigación de casos reales y que necesita de los mismos, ya que hoy en día vuelve de nuevo a ponerse de relieve. El trabajo que aquí se presenta tiene como objetivo hacer una revisión de la literatura existente, tanto teórica como de estudio de casos, que sirva de recopilatorio para una posterior investigación empírica. En el trabajo se busca las siguientes aportaciones o resultados principales: ofrecer una concepción evolucionista del concepto de consorcio de exportación, recabar los principales factores determinantes que llevan a la empresa a salir al exterior bajo esta fórmula, analizar lo que hay publicado sobre la pervivencia en el tiempo de los consorcios de exportación, dar luz sobre los distintos tipo de consorcios de exportación que existen y realizar una recopilación de los principales factores determinantes del éxito o del fracaso de este modalidad asociativa. ABSTRACTAssociationism is composed by different ways of cooperation between companies.     La formación de un producto turístico: la Ruta de La Batalla de Munda

    The city of Cordoba and its province have an immense cultural heritage whose origins are lost in time. The enhancement of the historical events which occurred in this territory is an excellent opportunity to promote tourism. In this context the Route of the Battle of Munda is a factor for the development as a tourist destination of participating municipalities. First, this work deals with the study of the phenomenon of routes and cultural itineraries, by analysing the characteristics of these tourist products. Then, the tourist product of the Route of the Battle of Munda is described. For this, first a brief description is done which relates the decisive battle, occurred in the plain of Vanda in 45 B. C., where Julius Caesar defeated Pompey ́s sons. Then, the towns along the route and the planned activities are described, confirming how the route is assembled with the rest of the tourist offer in the territory. In order to energize this route an association has been founded by five municipalities and another one has been later included. Thus, finally, the steps followed to create the product and the initiatives for the commercialisation and launch are analysed. La ciudad de Córdoba y su provincia poseen un inmenso patrimonio cultural cuyo origen se pierde en el tiempo. La puesta en valor de los hechos históricos que en este territorio acontecieron es una excelente oportunidad de promoción turística. En este contexto la Ruta de la Batalla de Munda es un factor de desarrollo como destino turístico de los municipios participes. En este trabajo, en primer lugar, se aborda el estudio del fenómeno de las rutas e itinerarios culturales, mediante el análisis de las características de estos productos turísticos. A continuación, se describe el producto turístico de la Ruta de la Batalla de Munda. Para ello, inicialmente se hace una breve descripción de la decisiva batalla, entablada en los Llanos de Vanda en el año 45 a. C., en la que Julio César venció a los hijos de Pompeyo. Posteriormente, se describe el recorrido a través de los distintos municipios por los que discurre la ruta, así como las actividades previstas en la misma, comprobando como la ruta se articula a la perfección con el resto de la oferta turística del territorio. Con la finalidad de dinamizar esta ruta se ha constituido una asociación, formada inicialmente por cinco municipios y a la que se ha incorporado otro más con posterioridad. De este modo, para finalizar, se analizan los pasos seguidos para la creación del producto, así como las iniciativas realizadas hasta la fecha para su comercialización y lanzamiento.

    The industrial heritage of a region, understood as the productive tissue consisting of facilities already in disuse, can become a powerful focus of tourist attraction. The visit to certain places where industrial and mining activities were once thriving is included in the so- called Cultural Tourism. For the visitor is a trip through time and, also these now closed facilities experience a "second life" that allows the revitalization of the economy in the surrounding area. Thus, in the region of the Valley of the river Alto Guadiato, located in the North of the province of Cordova, there are many places with charm, witnesses of the once dynamic industrial activity and mining, during the nineteen and twenty centuries. Another key element is also the railway heritage, composed of many locomotives, wagons, tents and green paths (included in the national census of Green Paths). In recent times, it has been detected a progressive increase in the concern for the preservation of the area's mining heritage, both as a public-private initiative; as clear evidence of this trend is the increase of projects for the enhancement of this heritage. Among the latest initiatives, you can highlight the layout of various industrial tourist routes in the region, which constitute an important incentive for the potential visitor and, also, these contribute to the development of a sustainable local tourism. El patrimonio industrial de una región, entendido como el tejido productivo formado por instalaciones ya en desuso, puede llegar a constituir un potente foco de atracción turística. La visita a determinados lugares donde se desarrollaron actividades relacionadas con el sector productivo es una fórmula más de turismo cultural. Para el turista supone realizar un viaje a través el tiempo y, por otro lado, las instalaciones clausuradas experimentan una “segunda vida” que permite la dinamización de la economía de la zona. En la comarca del Valle del Alto Guadiato, al norte de la provincia de Córdoba, se hallan numerosos lugares con encanto, testigos de la potente actividad fabril y minera en la zona durante los siglos XIX y XX. Asimismo, otra pieza clave es el patrimonio ferroviario, compuesto por numerosas locomotoras, vagones, casetas y Vías Verdes (incluidas en el Censo Nacional de Vías Verdes). En los últimos tiempos se ha detectado un incremento progresivo en la preocupación por la preservación del patrimonio minero-industrial de la zona –tanto por iniciativa privada como pública–, que queda patente en el aumento de proyectos para la puesta en valor de dicho patrimonio. Entre las últimas iniciativas, puede destacarse el trazado de diversas rutas turísticas industriales en la comarca, que constituyen un importante aliciente para el potencial visitante y, al mismo tiempo, contribuyen al desarrollo de un turismo local sostenible.
