    Evaluation on dry forage yields and nutritional characteristics of introduced herbaceous legumes in Myanmar

    The study was carried out to evaluate the forage yields, nutritive values and in vitro fermentation parameters of herbaceous legumes. Five varieties of introduced herbaceous legumes; Stylosanthes guianensis cv. Ubon stylo, Macrotyloma axillare cv. Archer, Centrosema brasilianum cv. Ooloo, Stylosanthes guianensis cv. Stylo 184 and Macroptilum bracteatum cv. Cadarga were evaluated at the research farm, University of Veterinary Science, Yezin, Myanmar. No fertilizer and no irrigation were applied for cultivation to test drought resistance. Dry forage yield, nutritive values and gas production at four harvesting times were measured with 4×5 factorial arrangement (5 legumes and 4 harvesting time) in randomized complete block design. There was no interaction between legumes and harvesting time on forage yield, nutritive values and fermentation parameters but they were affected by the main effects of legume types and harvesting time. Among the legume forages, the highest dry forage yields were found in Ooloo, Ubon stylo, and Stylo 184, and followed by the DM yield of Archer and Cadarga. The DM yield of the second harvest was significantly higher (p<0.05) than those of the first, third and fourth harvest which were not significantly different from each other. As a chemical composition, the DM content of Archer was lower (p<0.05) than those of other varieties. Among the legumes forages, the lower CP content was found in Cadarga. The higher NDF was observed in Ooloo. Ooloo, Ubon stylo and Cadarga showed higher ADF in comparison with the other two varieties. Among the harvesting time, the lowest DM content was found at the first harvest. The highest CP content was found at third harvest. The NDF content was not significantly different. The lowest ADF content was found in fourth harvest. According to the dry forage yield, Ubon stylo and Ooloo had the highest dry forage yield and in term of nutritive values, Stylo 184 and Archer had higher nutritive values. As the main effect of forages, Stylo 184 and Archer had higher gas production in comparison with the other varieties. As the main effect of harvesting time, the fourth harvest had the highest gas production in comparison with other harvesting time. It could be better for cultivation by application of fertilizer and irrigation to get more forage yield and quality. &nbsp

    Genetic diversity of toxigenic Vibrio cholerae O1 from Sabah, Malaysia 2015

    Background Cholera is an important health problem in Sabah, a Malaysian state in northern Borneo; however, Vibrio cholerae in Sabah have never been characterized. Since 2002, serogroup O1 strains having the traits of both classical and El Tor biotype, designated as atypical El Tor biotype, have been increasingly reported as the cause of cholera worldwide. These variants are believed to produce clinically more severe disease like classical strains. Purpose The purpose of this study is to investigate the genetic diversity of V. cholerae in Sabah and whether V. cholerae in Sabah belong to atypical El Tor biotype. Methods ERIC-PCR, a DNA fingerprinting method for bacterial pathogens based on the enterobacterial repetitive intergenic consensus sequence, was used to study the genetic diversity of 65 clinical V. cholerae O1 isolates from 3 districts (Kudat, Beluran, Sandakan) in Sabah and one environmental isolate from coastal sea water in Kudat district. In addition, we studied the biotype-specific genetic traits in these isolates to establish their biotype. Results Different fingerprint patterns were seen in isolates from these three districts but one of the patterns was seen in more than one district. Clinical isolates and environmental isolate have different patterns. In addition, Sabah isolates harbor genetic traits specific to both classical biotype (ctxB-1, rstRCla) and El Tor biotype (rstRET, rstC, tcpAET, rtxC, VC2346). Conclusion This study revealed that V. cholerae in Sabah were genetically diverse and were atypical El Tor strains. Fingerprint patterns of these isolates will be useful in tracing the origin of this pathogen in the future

In this paper, PA used in transmitter portion of radar is designed and implemented. DC biasing, stability checking and input/output impedance matching of the RF transistor design procedures are considered. The stability analysis of power amplifiers is one of the most critical and the most challenging aspects of power amplifier design. Stability analysis is shown an analysis technique, which accurately predicts the oscillations in power amplifiers. The demand on security is increasing greatly in these years and biometric recognition gradually becomes a hot field of research. Iris recognition is a new branch of biometric recognition, which is regarded as the most stable, safe and accurate biometric recognition method. In this paper, the image data base is created by inputting the digital photos via MATLAB program. Image processing tool box and Wavelet transformation tool box are mainly applied to implement the system. Edge detection, Image localization, HAAR Wavelet transformation and Hamming Distance are mainly applied. Finally the accuracy of Iris recognition system is tested and evaluated with different Iris images

    Analysis of OFDM simulation for CDMA wireless communication system

    This paper investigates the effectiveness of Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) as a modulation technique for wireless radio applications. The main aim was to assess the suitability of OFDM as a modulation technique for a fixed wireless phone system for rural areas of Myanmar. The performance of OFDM was assessed by using computer simulations performed using MATLAB. Most third generation mobile phone systems are proposing to use Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) as their modulation technique. For this reason, CDMA was also investigated so that the performance of CDMA could be compared with OFDM. OFDM was found to have total immunity to multipath delay spread provided the reflection time is less than the guard period used in the OFDM signal. The performance of the OFDM signal was found to be the same as for a single carrier system, using the same modulation technique

    Paleogeographic Evolution of Southeast Asia: Geochemistry and Geochronology of the Katha-Gangaw Range, Northern Myanmar

    The Mogok continental foreland region and Katha-Gangaw range (KGR) are located in the north-central section of the Myanmar plate, which is a component of the Eurasian plate. The origin of KGR, exposed along northern Myanmar (SE Asia), is still up for argument, despite numerous prior studies. Based on the petrography, geochemistry, and detrital zircon U-Pb geochronology of metamorphic rock samples, the current study focuses on the tectonic evolution of the KGR. The study also emphasizes the phenomenon of microcontinents rifting from the Gondwanan supercontinent and their subsequent amalgamation with Asia. Detrital zircon ages from four samples in the southern region of KGR peak at 634 Ma, 525 Ma, 290 Ma, and 248 Ma, and two samples yielded > 40% of the grains of younger than 400 Ma. Similar results were obtained from three samples (out of six) from the central region of the KGR. All of the samples from the northern part of KGR are older than 400 Ma, with the exception of MT-02A, which contains nearly all of the younger grains. These younger peaks are identical to the zircon U-Pb ages of the Indochina block, the Sibumasu block, and the Pane Chaung Formation of the Myanmar plate, as well as the Langjiexue Formation (southeastern Tibet). This similarity raises the possibility of either these units being a source region of strata in northern Myanmar or sharing a similar source. The geochemistry of metamorphic rocks samples from KGR revealed loss-on-ignition (LOI) values of 0.29–4.18 wt%, emphasizing the modest to moderate alteration. The samples are enriched in large-ion lithophile elements (LILEs), and depleted in high-field strength elements (HFSEs). All metamorphic samples are peraluminous, indicating the linkage with collisional orogenies. This result is most comparable to upper continental crustal provenance. Hence, the metamorphic rocks in KGR regions must be associated with the crustal materials

    Dissolved trace element concentrations and fluxes in the Irrawaddy, Salween, Sittaung and Kaladan Rivers.

    The Irrawaddy (Ayeyarwaddy) and Salween (Thanlwin) globally rank among the largest rivers for supplying dissolved and particulate material to the ocean. Along with the Sittaung and Kaladan rivers they have societal importance to Myanmar in terms water sources and food production. Despite their importance for global biogeochemical cycles and the ~50 million people who live in their catchments, the chemistry of these rivers is poorly known. This study presents a comprehensive survey of dissolved (<0.22 μm) trace element concentrations (Sr, Fe, Al, Ba, Mn, V, Rb, Cu, Zn, As, Li, Ni, Mo, Cr, U, Pb, Sb, Co, Cs, Tl and Cd) at 38 locations within these river catchments, spanning a period of 2 years. The results highlight the global importance of the Irrawaddy and Salween rivers for trace element global biogeochemical cycles; contributing between 1 and 17 % of global dissolved riverine fluxes to the land-ocean interface for the studied elements. Area normalized dissolved fluxes in these catchments are ~2 to 10 times higher than global average values for most elements, consistent with high rates of chemical weathering. In general, anthropogenic activities have yet to significantly perturb dissolved trace element fluxes in these river systems. The presented dataset should therefore serve as a useful 'natural' baseline, against which future perturbations driven by climate change and/or the development of Myanmar's mining industry could be assessed. Exceptions to this include As in the Sittaung River and Sb, Zn, Pb and As in the Salween River, which may already be significantly impacted by anthropogenic inputs. The former represents a water quality issue of concern for public health, and so constraining the exact sources of As in the Sittaung River should be considered a priority for future research

    Outcomes of Community-Based Systematic Screening of Household Contacts of Patients with Multidrug-Resistant Tuberculosis in Myanmar

    Screening of household contacts of patients with multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) is a crucial active TB case-finding intervention. Before 2016, this intervention had not been implemented in Myanmar, a country with a high MDR-TB burden. In 2016, a community-based screening of household contacts of MDR-TB patients using a systematic TB-screening algorithm (symptom screening and chest radiography followed by sputum smear microscopy and Xpert-MTB/RIF assays) was implemented in 33 townships in Myanmar. We assessed the implementation of this intervention, how well the screening algorithm was followed, and the yield of active TB. Data collected between April 2016 and March 2017 were analyzed using logistic and log-binomial regression. Of 620 household contacts of 210 MDR-TB patients enrolled for screening, 620 (100%) underwent TB symptom screening and 505 (81%) underwent chest radiography. Of 240 (39%) symptomatic household contacts, 71 (30%) were not further screened according to the algorithm. Children aged &lt;15 years were less likely to follow the algorithm. Twenty-four contacts were diagnosed with active TB, including two rifampicin- resistant cases (yield of active TB = 3.9%, 95% CI: 2.3%&ndash;6.5%). The highest yield was found among children aged &lt;5 years (10.0%, 95% CI: 3.6%&ndash;24.7%). Household contact screening should be strengthened, continued, and scaled up for all MDR-TB patients in Myanmar
