Pedunculated parotid oncocytoma in submandibular region

    Get PDF
Oncocytoma of the parotid is a very uncommon benign tumour accounting for 1% of benign tumours of the parotid. Clinically these swellings cannot be distinguished from other tumours and diagnosis is mainly by histopathological examination. All the reported cases arose from the superficial lobe of the parotid. This is a rare case of a pedunculated parotid tumour presenting as a swelling in the submandibular region. Keywords: Oncocytoma; Parotid gland; ExcisionInternet Journal of Medical Update 2012 July;7(2):57-5

ASSESSMENT OF WATER QUALITY OF THATIPUDI RESERVOIR OF VIZIANAGARAM DISTRICT OF ANDHRA PRADESH

The authors present work deals with the assessment of the water quality of the water samples collected from Thatipudi reservoir situated in Vizianagaram district of Andhra Pradesh, by analyzing some selected physico-chemical parameters and chosen heavy metals. Water quality parameters such as pH, EC, DO, COD, BOD, TDS, total hardness, calcium, magnesium, sodium, potassium, iron, chloride, nitrite, phosphate, carbonate, bicarbonate and heavy metals such as zinc, manganese, lead and chromium were analyzed for the water samples collected from the reservoir. The results were compared with the standard values prescribed by IS 10500. The parameters such as SAR, RSC, and Mg hazardous were analyzed and it was found that all these values were within the prescribed limit value. Saturation index values of the water samples analyzed were found to be in the range of 0.3-0.84 indicating, Water is supersaturated with respect to calcium carbonate (CaCO3) and scale forming may occur, but non corrosive..  KEYWORDS:Dams, Thatipudi reservoir water quality, physico-chemical charactersÂ

Performance evaluation of different structures of power system stabilizers

The electric power from the system should be reliable and economical for consumer’s equipment satisfaction. An electric power system consists of many generators, transformers, transmission lines, loads, etc. For the power system network, dynamic performance and stability are important. The system is lost its stability by some disturbances i.e., load variations, generator failure, prime mover failure, transmission line outage, etc. Whenever load variations in the system, generator rotor speed will vary, means oscillations in the rotor speed, which is deviating from rated speed. The excitation system will control the generator rated line voltage. When fault occurs at any equipment in the system, the system will unstable. If fault occurs at generator, the generator oscillates. To reduce the oscillations and to make the system stable used power system stabilizers (PSS’s). Here, three types of PSS’s are used i.e., PSS1B, PSS2B, PSS4B. Comparisons of three PSS’s are on the multi machine system under some disturbance. From the observations, concluding that PSS4B is quickly control the oscillations in the physical parameters of machine in the system than other power system stabilizers

In vitro susceptibility of Mycobacterium tuberculosis to trifluoperazine

The reference strain, Mycobacterium tuberculosis H37Rv, 19 drug-sensitive and 15 drug resistant clinical isolates of M. tuberculosis were tested for their in vitro susceptibility to trifluoperazine (TFP), an antipsychotic drug, by broth dilution method. The minimal inhibitory concentration (MIC) and minimal bactericidal concentration (MBC) of TFP against M. tuberculosis H37Rv were 8 and 32 mg/l, respectively. The distribution of the sensitive and resistant isolates, with respect to the MIC of TFP, was similar. The distribution of the sensitive and resistant isolates, with respect to the MBC of TFP, was different and the difference was statistically significant. The findings suggest that TFP is more bactericidal to drug-resistant isolates than to the sensitive isolates

    Submarine Escape Set Test Facilities

    Get PDF
Submarine Escape Set (SES) is used by submariners to escape from a sunken submarine. This set caters for breathing needs of the submariner under water, until he reaches the surface. Evaluation of such life-saving equipment is of paramount importance. This paper describes the submarine escape set and various constructional features and schedules of operation of test facilities designed indegenously and which can evaluate the SES. The test facility is divided into two parts: the reducer test facility, and the breathing bag test facility. The equipment has been rigorously tested and accepted by Indian Navy. Two such test facilities have been developed, one of which is installed at INS Satavahana, Visakhapatnam, and are working satisfactorily

Microstructural Characterization of Precipitation Process in a Nickel-Alloy by Non-linear Ultrasonic

The nonlinear ultrasonic technique, using the amplitude ratio of higher harmonic frequencies and fundamental frequency, has been found to be strongly sensitive to the microstructure of bulk materials. It was reported earlier that in Al 2024 alloy the nonlinearity parameter increased with the generation of coherency precipitates. Similarly, Hurley et al reported that the nonlinear parameter linearly increases as a function of inhomogeneous strain due to the generation of a precipitate in low alloy steel. In contrast to these studies, in which researchers have studied ultrasonic nonlinearity in the context of single crystals and simple metals, we would like to study structural materials for the purpose of structural health monitoring. In order to characterize the material properties in facilities and during operation, one needs to understand the relation between the material degradation of structural materials and the features of the NDE parameters. Therefore, in the present study we attempted to assess the thermal degradation in one such structural material namely: Nimonic-263, nickel based precipitation hardenable alloy using the nonlinear technique. From the present study it was found that the response of the non-linear ultrasonic parameter b is faster and larger compared to the normal velocity measurements

    Prompting with Pseudo-Code Instructions

Prompting with natural language instructions has recently emerged as a popular method of harnessing the capabilities of large language models. Given the inherent ambiguity present in natural language, it is intuitive to consider the possible advantages of prompting with less ambiguous prompt styles, such as the use of pseudo-code. In this paper we explore if prompting via pseudo-code instructions helps improve the performance of pre-trained language models. We manually create a dataset of pseudo-code prompts for 132 different tasks spanning classification, QA and generative language tasks, sourced from the Super-NaturalInstructions dataset. Using these prompts along with their counterparts in natural language, we study their performance on two LLM families - BLOOM and CodeGen. Our experiments show that using pseudo-code instructions leads to better results, with an average increase (absolute) of 7-16 points in F1 scores for classification tasks and an improvement (relative) of 12-38% in aggregate ROUGE-L scores across all tasks. We include detailed ablation studies which indicate that code comments, docstrings, and the structural clues encoded in pseudo-code all contribute towards the improvement in performance. To the best of our knowledge our work is the first to demonstrate how pseudo-code prompts can be helpful in improving the performance of pre-trained LMs.Comment: Published in EMNLP 2023 main trac
