Financial Trading Model with Stock Bar Chart Image Time Series with Deep Convolutional Neural Networks
Even though computational intelligence techniques have been extensively
utilized in financial trading systems, almost all developed models use the time
series data for price prediction or identifying buy-sell points. However, in
this study we decided to use 2-D stock bar chart images directly without
introducing any additional time series associated with the underlying stock. We
propose a novel algorithmic trading model CNN-BI (Convolutional Neural Network
with Bar Images) using a 2-D Convolutional Neural Network. We generated 2-D
images of sliding windows of 30-day bar charts for Dow 30 stocks and trained a
deep Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) model for our algorithmic trading
model. We tested our model separately between 2007-2012 and 2012-2017 for
representing different market conditions. The results indicate that the model
was able to outperform Buy and Hold strategy, especially in trendless or bear
markets. Since this is a preliminary study and probably one of the first
attempts using such an unconventional approach, there is always potential for
improvement. Overall, the results are promising and the model might be
integrated as part of an ensemble trading model combined with different
strategies.Comment: accepted to be published in Intelligent Automation and Soft Computing

Amaç: Histopatolojik alt tip, nükleer derece ve komedonekroz memenin duktal karsinoma in situ (DKIS) lezyonları
Bulgular: Toplam 40 olgunun 12’si yüksek dereceli, 28’i düşük dereceli, 8’i komedo tip ve 32’si non-komedo tip DKIS

bulundu. Bu sonuçlar farklı biyolojik davranışa sahip DKIS alt tiplerinin tanımlanmasına katkı sağlayacaktır
Novel Approaches for SER Spectroscopic Analysis of Protein Cofactors
Biomimetic systems employed for biotechnological applications i.e. as biosensors or bio fuel cells, require initial formation of conducting support/protein complexes with controlled properties. The specific interaction of the protein with the support determines important qualities of the device such as electrical communication, long-term stability and catalytic efficiency. In this respect the system parameters have to be chosen in a way that high protein loading on the support is achieved while protein denaturation upon adsorption is prevented. The conditions on the surface have to be adjusted in such a way that the desired surface reaction of the protein i.e. electron transfer to either the electrode or a second redox partner, is still guaranteed. Hence the choice of support, its functionlisation as well as the right adjustment of solution parameters play a crucial role in the rational design of these support/protein constructs
Fenofibrate Treatment Enhances Antioxidant Status and Attenuates Endothelial Dysfunction in Streptozotocin-Induced Diabetic Rats
Diabetic endothelial dysfunction is accompanied by increased oxidative stress and upregulated proinflammatory and inflammatory mediators in the vasculature. Activation of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-alpha (PPAR-α) results in antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects. This study was designed to investigate the effect of fenofibrate, a PPAR-α activator, on the endothelial dysfunction, oxidative stress, and inflammation in streptozotocin diabetic rats. Diabetic rats received fenofibrate (150 mg kg−1 day−1) for 4 weeks. Fenofibrate treatment restored the impaired endothelium-dependent relaxation and increased basal nitric oxide availability in diabetic aorta, enhanced erythrocyte/liver superoxide dismutase and catalase levels, ameliorated the abnormal serum/aortic thiobarbituric acid reactive substances, and prevented the increased aortic myeloperoxidase without a significant change in serum total cholesterol and triglyceride levels. It did not affect the decreased total homocysteine level and the increased tumor necrosis factor-α level in the serum of diabetic rats. Fenofibrate-induced prevention of the endothelial function seems to be related to its potential antioxidant and antiinflammatory activity
Insights from surface enhanced resonance Raman spectroscopy and QM/MM calculations
Understanding the coupling between heme reduction and proton translocation in cytochrome c oxidase (CcO) is still an open problem. The propionic acids of heme a3 have been proposed to act as a proton loading site (PLS) in the proton pumping pathway, yet this proposal could not be verified by experimental data so far. We have set up an experiment where the redox states of the two hemes in CcO can be controlled via external electrical potential. Surface enhanced resonance Raman (SERR) spectroscopy was applied to simultaneously monitor the redox state of the hemes and the protonation state of the heme propionates. Simulated spectra based on QM/MM calculations were used to assign the resonant enhanced CH2 twisting modes of the propionates to the protonation state of the individual heme a and heme a3 propionates respectively. The comparison between calculated and measured H2OD2O difference spectra allowed a sound band assignment. In the fully reduced enzyme at least three of the four heme propionates were found to be protonated whereas in the presence of a reduced heme a and an oxidized heme a3 only protonation of one heme a3 propionates was observed. Our data supports the postulated scenario where the heme a3 propionates are involved in the proton pathway

An ontology based approach in health information systems: Blood test ontology example
<span>Health domain is a complex and distributed research area, where different institutions and people take and provide service, at the same time. Therefore, the health data about a patient is completely distributed among doctors, clinics, hospitals, pharmacies and insurance companies. To share and reuse the distributed, well-structured and semantically rich clinical data with the appropriate permissions from anywhere is one of the major areas that the research of information systems focused in healthcare domain in recent years. The semantic web provides a technological infrastructure with representing the meaning of data and reasoning new information from the existing knowledge for the healthcare domain. The blood, as the life fluid, gives hints to the clinicians about a patient's general health status by analyzing the ingredients in. The results of blood tests contain lots of information that can be used by different clinics. In the diagnostic phase, analyzing the blood for the same tests repeatedly delays to start the treatment process and increases the cost. The Blood Test Ontology is developed to model the blood tests semantically that is done in the health field and also to define information related with the blood and the blood tests as well as the relationships between them. The ontology in this work is developed with the aim to be used in the health information system, which should provide the querying, sharing and reusing the personalized the blood test result of the patients, as a knowledge base. The Blood Test Ontology is supported by the medical information standards to be able to interoperable with the other medical ontologies that are developed in the health.</span
Duodenal Duplication Cyst with Recurrent Acute Pancreatitis: Report of a Case
Introduction:Duplication cyst can be occurred in any level of GI tract but the duodenal cysts are extremely rare. Most of the duplication cysts are detected in children. Duodenum duplication cysts are difficult to diagnose, as the presenting symptoms are nonspecific and are closely related to the type, size and location of the lesion. Both CT imaging and MRI can adequately identify a duodenal duplication cyst.Presentation of the case: We report an adult with recurrent episodes of acute pancreatitis who was diagnosed with ERCP. With the diagnosis of duodenal duplication cyst, we planned to perform surgical resection of the cyst. Conclusions: The surgical intervention for duodenal duplication cyst includes complete or partial surgical resection of the cyst. The location of the cysts in relation to the duodenum, especially to the ampulla, is important to determine the treatment strategy. Alternatively, duodenum duplication can be safely and effectively treated by different endoscopic interventions
