Get PDF
This study aims to examine the research trends and results of bibliometric mapping analyses of the articles that have been conducted about the Flipped Classroom Model in the field of education in the last ten years. For analysis purposes, 126 articles were accessed from Web of Science for the years between 2010 and 2019. In total, 63 articles were selected from among the articles for bibliometric as well as content analysis. According to the bibliometric analysis the most frequently mentioned keywords are flipped classroom, active learning, and chemical education research, and that many of the articles have focused more on motivation in recent years. The content analysis determines that the variables including not only perception and motivation, but also academic achievement/performance have been the most common topics mentioned in the academic articles. Accordingly, achievement tests, questionnaires and scales have been preferred as data collection tools, and university students appear to have been mostly preferred as a sample group. The quantitative approach has been mostly used as the type of method in the articles in the last decade

Introduction: Alzheimer's disease (AD) is one of the pathologies that the scientific world is still desperate for. The aim of this study was the investigation of diazepam binding inhibitor (DBI) as a prognostic factor for AD prognosis. Methods: A total of 120 participants were divided into 3 groups. Forty new diagnosed Alzheimer patients (NDG) who have been diagnosed but have not started AD treatment, 40 patients who diagnosed 5 years ago (D5YG), and 40 healthy control groups (CG) were included in the study. Levels of DBI, oxidative stress, inflammatory, and neurodegenerative biomarkers were compared between 3 groups. Results: Plasma levels of DBI, oligomeric Aβ, total tau, glial fibrillary acidic protein, α-synuclein, interleukin (IL) 1β, IL6, tumor necrosis factor α, oxidative stress index, high-sensitive C-reactive protein, and DNA damage were found higher in D5YG and NDG as compared to CG (p < 0.001). On the contrary, plasma levels of total thiol, native thiol, vitamin D and vitamin B12 were lower in D5YG and NDG as compared to CG (p < 0.001). Discussion: DBI may be a potential plasma biomarker and promising drug target for AD. It could help physicians make a comprehensive evaluation with cognitive and neurodegenerative tests

Background/aim: Vitamin D, adropin, proinflammatory cytokines, and oxidative stress closely related with metabolic homeostasis and endothelial dysfunction. The aim of the present study is to investigate how vitamin D levels affect serum adropin, IL-1ß, IL-6, and oxidative stress. Materials and methods: A total of 77 female subjects were divided into 3 groups according to vitamin D levels. Biochemical parameters, adropin, IL-1ß, IL-6, oxidative stress markers were studied in these groups, and the results were compared statistically. Results: Serum adropin, IL-1ß, IL-6, total oxidant status (TOS) and total antioxidant status (TAS) and oxidative stress index (OSI) levels differed significantly between the vitamin D groups (p < 0.05). A significant positive correlation was detected between vitamin D, and adropin and TAS (r = 0.807; p < 0.001, r = 0.814; p < 0.001, respectively). A significant negative correlation was detected between vitamin D, and IL-1ß, IL-6, TOS, OSI (r = –0.725; p < 0.001, r = –0.720; p < 0.001, r = –0.238; p = 0.037, r = –0.705; p < 0.001, respectively). Conclusions: Vitamin D could show its effects through vitamin D receptors on tissues or on the ENHO gene in adropin secreting tissues via direct or indirect mechanisms. Proinflammatory cytokines, oxidative stress, and adropin targeted studies could contribute to the prevention and treatment of diseases associated with vitamin D deficiency in future

Background: Hypertension is a major risk factor for cardiovascular diseases, stroke, congestive heart disease and renal failure. Primary hypertension is a multi-factorial complex disease and its exact etiology still remains unknown. In this study we aimed to compare serum amphiregulin and cerebellin-1 levels of primary hypertension patients with healthy subjects. Material and methods: Forty-four hypertensive patients and 44 healthy people were included. Patients with systolic blood pressure measurements ≥ 140 mm Hg and diastolic blood pressure measurements ≥ 90 mm Hg were evaluated as hypertensive. Serum amphiregulin and cerebellin 1 levels were measured using ELISA method. Results: Mean amphiregulin level was 32.1 (10.2–72.5) pg/mL in hypertension group and 36.9 (15.9–109.5) pg/mL in control group (p = 0.002). Mean cerebellin 1 levels were comparable in both groups, 82.1 (23.9–286.1) pg/mL in hypertensive group and 95.1 (60.2–293) pg/mL in control group (p = 0.261). Serum amphiregulin to predict hypertension was found to be ≤ 23 pg/mL with specificity of 97% and sensitivity of 48.5% (AUC = 0.74; 95% CI, 0.62–0.86; p = 0.001). Conclusions: Hypertension is associated with lower serum amphiregulin concentrations

According to the New Conservatives in the United States, after the Cold War, the United States had to create a new enemy to maintain its power. The required enemy was fılled with the perception of dictatorial regimes as a threat to security policy. While Francis Fukuyama's The End of History thesis in 1989 and 1992 points out that there is no longer an enemy in the first place, this emphasis on democracy has created a contrast between the States that have liberal democracy and others. This work produced by Fukuyama provided the hasis for the hostility of authoritarian regimes by the New Conservatives. Published in 1993 and 1996, Samuel Huntington explored the world on the basis of seven different civilizations: West, Confucius, Japanese, İslam, Indian, Latin America and Africa. Huntington argued that wars would take place between cultures, and at the same time mentioned that the war between Christianity and İslam had already begun. In the following process, the New Conservatives called China and Islamic Geography the greatest danger that the West could face before September 11, and after the September 11,2001 terrorist attacks, they focused on the Müslim Middle East with an orientalist and security language. On this basis, the rise of the “Radical İslam” and “Islamic / Islamist’’ discourses had a fear effect on Westem society. This work, focuses on the Neo-Conservatives, to understand the effects of “discourse”, “binary opposition” and “orientalisf ’ concepts on creating enemies as apower practice after ten years before and ten years after ffom September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks and the New Conservatives' approach to security in foreign policy

Level of Detail Categorization for the Application in Urban Design

Urban planning and urban design involve complex processes that require detailed information about the visual information of a place at various scales. Different graphic tools, such as game engines, are evolving to use urban representation fields. The concept of "level of detail" (LOD) has been used to categorize the level of detail in AEC applications such as BIM and GML for urban representation models. However, there is a need to distinguish between different LOD concepts commonly used in various fields, as these terms have different interpretations and implications. This article presents a novel approach to re-categorizing the level of detail concept in AEC applications, led by the traditional use of LOD and in parallel with urban planning scales. From an urbanist perspective, a four-stage LOD classification framework has been studied: LOD 1000 for urban and neighbourhood scales, LOD 2000 for the plaza and square scales, LOD 3000 for architectural and street scales, and LOD 4000 for protected and private areas. Key words: urban representations, Level of Detail (LoD), Level of Development (LOD), Urban design, urban planning, Optimization, visual information, AEC.</p

Although it is not so frequent in medical literature, drug-induced esophageal injury is important, because of its possible complications. Here, we reported two patients with ulcerative esophagitis secondary to doxycycline use. Both patients applied to outpatient clinic with retrosternal pain, odynofagia and dysphagia. Symptoms had been developed after three days of doxicycline treatment in the first patient, and after two days in the second patient. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy revealed ulcers in patient 1 at the upper 1/3 segment of esophagus and in patient 2 at the middle 1/3 segment of esophagus. Based on the endoscopic findings, the patients were diagnosed as drug-induced esophageal injury resulting from doxycycline treatments. Doxycycline treatments were stopped and lansoprazole and sucralfate was started.

Background/aim: The Zurich Chronic Middle Ear Questionnaire (ZCMEI-21) is a newly-developed German-language questionnaire. The purpose of this study was to analyze the quality of life (QoL) of chronic otitis media (COM) patients and translate, transculturally adapt, and validate the ZCMEI-21 into Turkish. Materials and methods: Based on internationally accepted guidelines, the ZCMEI-21 was translated into Turkish. To assess its validity, the total score of the ZCMEI-21-Tur was compared to the scores taken from the original validation study and a question that was directly related to the health-related QoL (HRQoL), as well as the general criterion EQ-5D-5L. Questionnaires were completed by healthy volunteers and the results were evaluated statistically. Results: A total of 80 COM patients and 40 healthy volunteers were prospectively enrolled in this study. Regarding internal consistency, the questionnaire showed a Cronbach α of 0.94, which indicated high internal consistency. Moreover, internal consistency was also determined to be excellent for the Cronbach α of the individual subscales, as follows: ear sign symptoms, 0.79; hearing, 0.83; psychosocial impact, 0.91, and medical resources, 0.84. Conclusions: The ZCMEI-21 was translated into Turkish and validated. Therefore, the ZCMEI-21-Tur was suitable for use in assessing HRQoL in adult patients with COM
