Objective: The present study was aimed to monitor the prognostic response of antiretroviral therapy in HIV positive patients. Methodology: The study was conducted on confirmed HIV positive patients registered at HIV treatment and care centre, PIMS. Islamabad from January 2013 to December 2015.. Among all HIV positive patients,276 adult cases were selected. There were 263 patients on first-line antiretroviral (ARV) therapy and 13 patients were shifted to 2nd line ARV therapy.CD4 cell counts and viral load (Polymerase chain reaction) monitoring was done after one year of starting ARV therapy. Results: Out of 276 adult patients,  75%(n=207) were male and 25%(n=69) were females. Among 276 adult cases, 95.3% (n=263) patients were on first line ARV therapy. Patients on first line ARV therapy showed good prognostic response. There  were 15.5%(n=40) patients having  CD4+cells less than 350cells/µL. There were 84.5%(n=223) patients having  CD4 +cells count greater than 350cells/µL There were 69%(n=182) patients having viral load <50copies/ml and 31%(n=81) patients who had viral load >50copies/ml. Conclusion: First line ARV therapy given to HIV positive patients proved itself best both in respect of increasing the immunity of HIV positive patients by increasing the number of CD4 cells and also results in effective viral load suppression

In this work, fabrication of gold coated glass substrate, growth of ZnO nanorods and potentiometric response of lactic acid are explained. The biosensor was developed by immobilizing the lactate oxidase on the ZnO nanorods in combination with glutaraldehyde as a cross linker for lactate oxidase enzyme. The potentiometric technique was applied for the measuring the output (EMF) response of l-lactic acid biosensor. We noticed that the present biosensor has wide linear detection range of concentration from 1 × 10−4–1 × 100 mM with acceptable sensitivity about 41.33 ± 1.58 mV/decade. In addition, the proposed biosensor showed fast response time less than 10 s, a good selectivity towards l-lactic acid in presence of common interfering substances such as ascorbic acid, urea, glucose, galactose, magnesium ions and calcium ions. The present biosensor based on immobilized ZnO nanorods with lactate oxidase sustained its stability for more than three weeks

Donation-based crowdfunding and corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities have potential symbiotic ramifications to raise funds, but campaigners are confronted with challenges and competition to accomplish their charitable target. For instance, CSR activities could warrant the possibility of using crowdfunding to raise money. On the other hand, a company\u27s CSR objectives can be achieved by using crowdfunding to micro-fund various social initiatives. Current research investigates the relationship between fundraisers in donation-based crowdfunding activities, which become potential CSR activities. Exclusively, the study analyzes the correlation among the value raised at the end of fundraising activity, the amounts targeted by the fundraiser, and CSR-Type activities on the project\u27s success in donation-based crowdfunding. Based on this, a research taxonomy has been established for a comparative analysis between Pakistan and Indonesia. Secondary data is collected from donation-based platforms and analyzed through Ordinary Least Square (OLS) regression and the models are validated using a robustness check. The outcomes show that a higher value raised (V) correlates more positively with project success in Pakistan (164) as compared with Indonesia (122). The Target fund (T) has a significant and negative association with the project\u27s success in the Pakistani market, however, the significant and negative effect on the project’s success in the Indonesian market. Lastly, CSR-related activities such as education, environment, community, and health have a positive relationship with project success in Pakistan, except for the product which has a negative, however significant relationship. In contrast, for Indonesia, CSR-type activities such as education, environment, community, product, and health have a positive and significant relationship with the project\u27s success. This study contributes to the donation-based crowdfunding literature to develop a vivid understanding of different CSR activities and their impact on the project\u27s success. The current study is one of the first to examine the significance of CSR activities and will enrich the body of knowledge regarding crowdfunding in diverse economies

Experimental investigation of engine valve train friction considering effects of operating conditions and WPC surface treatment

    Get PDF
Reduction in friction ensures fuel economy, control on emissions and durability of components in internal combustion engines. A modern gasoline internal combustion engine was instrumented to determine the friction values at the cam–roller interface considering the effects of surface treatment and engine operating state. A series of tests under different operating speeds and lubricant inlet temperatures were undertaken using both an original surface roller and a Wonder Process Craft (WPC) surface-treated engine roller. The results clearly revealed a substantial reduction in friction magnitude for the WPC surface-treated engine roller in comparison to the original roller while operating under similar conditions, indicating their strong potential for employment in engines. An increase in friction with the rise in temperature was also observed for both types of rollers, whereas increased lubricant entraining velocity due to higher operating speed had the opposite impact. A considerable reduction in frictional drive torque ranging from 8% to 28% was observed by employing the WPC-treated roller in comparison to original/untreated roller at various operating conditions, which signifies the strong potential for employment of WPC surface treatment in the roller/follower valve train engines

On account of huge yield losses, weed infestation is a serious threat in wheat crops throughout the country. A comprehensive survey to find out the major weeds in wheat in Dera Ismail Khan was carried out during the crop season of 2012-13. Wheat fields at seed farms of Rakhmanghan, RakhZandani, Rata Kulachi and adjacent farmer’s fields to each seed farm were investigated. Data was collected at the peak growth stage of weeds and the quadratic method was used to record relative density (RD), relative frequency (RF), relative crowding coefficient (RCC) and importance value index (IVI). The results revealed that the major and most problematic weed of wheat at all the locations was Avena fatua (wild oat) on account of having maximum IVI at Rakh Manghan (78.51 & 77.44), Rata Kulachi (77.82 & 77.54) and Rakh Zandani (77.51 & 77.53) seed Farms and Farmer’s fields respectively. Rumex dentatus (dock) and Convolvulus arvensis (Lehli) were the second and third abundantly occurring weeds at almost all the seed farms and farmer fields on account of having the second and third highest IVI values at all the locations. Therefore Avena fatua (wildoat), Rumex dentatus (dock) and Convolvulus arvensis (lehli) seed were collected to find out the yield losses through further experimentation
