Zakat is believed to be addressing the problem of poverty, but why poverty among Muslims is still high? According to The Nation (July, 29, 2014), rather than the 1.7 billion poor people in the world in the year 2011, 44 percent thereof living in Muslim countries. What realities which are not subjected to the control of up to present zakat poverty among Muslims in Muslim countries are still not able to overcome? This paper examines this issue with three realities that has association with charity and poverty. The Three realities are that the nature of zakat, zakat pentadbiran structure, and the poverty measure used. Third-three is believed to reality is a factor that should be restraint in the care of poverty through zakat. Almost all the argument in this paper is based on the experience in Malaysia

This is a simple paper with a straight forward aim. It attempts to suggest a development design for post-tsunami Aceh based on Islam, the very faith of the majority of indigenous people in Aceh. In so doing, the paper is divided into three sections. The first is to express a conviction that the development of post-tsunami Aceh should be based on Islam as it is not only the religion of the majority of the indigenous, but also has proven to be workable and successful in the history of Aceh civilization. The second is to overview the state of the present development strategy of post-tsunami Aceh vis-à-vis the above conviction. And the third, finally, is to propose a theoretical construct of Islamic-based development strategy for the post-tsunami Aceh

A New Approach for Sustainable Development Goals in Islamic Perspective

    Get PDF
AbstractThis paper discusses a new approach to Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) from Islamic perspective. It seeks to answer the main question of how to implement SDGs in Muslim countries. Seven of SDGs comprise of the end goals of development narrowed down to people's well being, and the rest of the goals are the means to reach the ends. Based on the secondary data obtained from library research, Islam provides guidance for SDGs in terms of the relationships between human and Allah SWT, human and human, and human and the environment. Islam does not solely promote the three relationships as the embodiment of spiritual power, but it also provides the mechanisms of the interrelationship. The new approach proposes a more comprehensive conceptual framework that encompasses the efforts of developing human beings and establishing a system as the medium for the implementation of the economic, social, educational, and governmental mechanisms

he COVID-19 pandemic has paralyzed the economy in many countries. The Indonesian government decided to implement large-scale social restrictions to handle COVID-19. This policy encouraged various activities to be carried out at home. Some companies decided to encourage their employees to work from home (WFH). This study aimed to explore HR policies during the COVID-19 pandemic in maintaining employee performance in airport-management companies. This research used online questionnaires to reduce face-to-face interaction and was assisted by the HR departments in the companies. This research confirmed that HR practices and perceived organizational support positively influenced job performance. This study could not show the role of employee well-being as a mediator, which is related to HR practices and POS not having been proven to affect employee well-being. In addition, the results did not show that employee well-being affects job performance. Keywords: Maintaining Employee, Organizational Support, Performance, HR Policies, Work From Hom

The relationship between dietary carbohydrate level and the levels of blood glucose and amylase in lemon fin barb hybrid

    Get PDF
A feeding trial was conducted to determine the effects of dietary carbohydrate level on the blood glucose and amylase of lemon fin barb hybrid fingerlings. Triplicate groups of fish (1.1 ± 0.5 g) were fed twice a day until apparent satiation with five isonitrogenous (30% protein) and isolipidic (4%) test diets containing increasing level of carbohydrate (20, 25, 30, 35 and 40 %). At the end of the experiment, fish survival, growth, feed efficiency, and blood glucose and amylase were measured. No mortality was observed in this study. The highest growth and blood amylase, and best feed efficiency were achieved at 35% dietary carbohydrate level while blood glucose continued to rise with the increase in the dietary carbohydrate level. This study indicated that blood amylase could be used as a tool to determine the optimal dietary carbohydrate level of a tropical carp and lemon fin barb hybrid could optimally utilize a high dietary carbohydrate level of 31.5-33.5%

Population structure of the blue swimmer crab Portunus pelagicus in coastal areas of Malaysia inferred from microsatellites

    Get PDF
Portunus pelagicus, distributed throughout the Indo-West Pacific region, is one of the large and edible species of blue swimmer crabs. Increasing demand for the frozen and canned crabmeat industry worldwide has now relied mainly on P. pelagicus which in turn generates splendid income for the fisherman communities. In the present study, the population genetic structure of P. pelagicus was examined using six pairs of microsatellite loci. A total of 87 crab samples were collected from five different coastal areas of Malaysia. Genomic DNA was extracted from each sample for polymerase chain reaction (PCR) amplification and fragment analysis. Four out of six microsatellite primers revealed polymorphic loci in P. pelagicus sampled. The number of alleles per locus in P. pelagicus ranged from 14 to 34. Microsatellites analyses indicated low levels of genetic differentiation among the P. pelagicus populations. The average observed heterozygosity (HO = 0.48) obtained was lower than the standard heterozygosity found in most marine populations (H O = 0.79). The high F IS values (mean F IS = 0.4756) and low F ST values (mean F ST = 0.0413) also suggested the existence of inbreeding among different populations of P. pelagicus. In conclusion, this study was able to shed light on the population structure of P. pelagicus in coastal areas of Malaysia
