Microsatellite based investigation of genetic diversity in 24 synthetic wheat cultivars

    Get PDF
Common bread wheat has very low genetic diversity. Plant breeders find it difficult to get appropriate germplasm which can be used for bread wheat improvement. Wild plant species is one of the potential sources for conferring resistant genes which can be exploited for bread wheat improvement. The challenge is to utilize these wild relatives into existing food crops without losing the genetic diversity. This study aimed to monitor genetic variability in the synthetic hexaploid wheats using microsatellites molecular markers. The polymorphism revealed by microsatellites was not very prevalent; however more Simple Sequence Repeat (SSR) need to be used to select diverse synthetic lines which can be crossed with common bread wheat to enhance the crop yield and resistance against various stresses. Keywords: Microsatellite, germplasms, hexaploids, polymerase chain reaction, whea

The Relationship Between Fundamental Analysis and Stock Returns Based on the Panel Data Analysis; Evidence from Karachi Stock exchange (KSE)

Fundamental analysis has gained huge popularity among capital markets researchers in last decades. It uses current and past financial reports (Piotroski 2000, 2004; Fama and French, 2004; Elleuch 2009, Seng 2012), along with political and economic data in order to assign intrinsic value to firms and help to identify mispriced securities (Kothari, 2001). Both fundamental and technical analyses are used to forecast stock returns with the aim to buy stock when they are under-priced and sell when they are overpriced. Our study aimed to investigate the ability of the historical accounting data in predicting future stock returns using fundamental analysis especially in emerging economy i.e. Pakistan. Data were collected for the eleven-year period from 2007 to 2017 for 115 non-financial companies listed on Karachi stock exchange (KSE) with available ten years consecutive data. This paper utilizes five indicators from multiple areas i.e. profitability ratios, liquidity ratios, leverage ratios, and market-based ratios. For analysis, this study used penal data analysis (common effect model, fixed effect model, and random effect model). The results indicates that the fundamental analysis can predict future stock returns in Pakistani listed companies and end up with the implications and future directions. Social media plays a very important role in the present education system of the world on the whole and in Islamic Republic of Pakistan in special. People in this area prefer to find information on social sites rather than find them face to face. Social media sites provide a variety of mediums for interacting and communicating while learning. However, this widespread use of social media is misused by some of the less responsible. The use of social media that is not Islamic values can be harmful to society. Integrity in the dissemination of information on social media has been an issue often overlooked by some writers. Therefore, the application of Islamic values is important in preventing these problems from continuing to spread and producing less educated communities. Based on the analysis of the study, there are four topics that cover teaching methods through social media from an Islamic perspective. Firstly think of social media as a medium of teaching. Subsequently, this article addresses the issue of using social media as a medium of instruction. The application of Islamic values in communicating information through social media is also elaborated. Finally, this article also discusses the importance and benefits of emphasizing Islamic values in communicating information on social media

Factors Affecting the Corporate Governance Disclosure: An Analysis of Manufacturing Firms of Pakistan

This study analyzes the impact of different governance related variables on the corporate governance disclosure level of Pakistani manufacturing firms. The study period is one year i.e. 2014 and it used a sample of 50 manufacturing firms which are classified into five different categories. The analyses are done through OLS regression. A comprehensive disclosure index consisting the thirty different disclosure items is developed which served as dependent variable. Thirty disclosure items are included in the index according to the disclosure requirements of SECP code of corporate governance. Board independence, managerial ownership, foreign ownership, block holdings and audit firm status are used as corporate governance related independent variables. The results indicate that the CG disclosure level of selected manufacturing firms is positively influenced by board independence, foreign ownership, block holding ownership and audit firm status. However the results of managerial ownership variable are not statically significant and the hypothesis regarding to this variable is rejected. The study found that all the independent variables except managerial ownership are the important determinants of CG disclosure. Keywords: CGD, INDE’s, SEC

Study of Dry Ice Growth on Duplex Cylinders

    Get PDF
A study of dry ice growth on bundled (duplex) cylinders has been performed using icing wind tunnel experiments and computational fluid dynamics (CFD) numerical simulations. The aim of this study is to "fill the gaps" in the works of Wagner (2010) and Qing et al. (2018). The numerical simulations cover a range of possible icing conditions by varying the operating wind speed, median volume diameter, and for some cases−the angle of incidence between the cylinders. The obtained results for the 0° AoA show that the accreted ice masses ratio between the leeward and windward cylinder varies from ~ 100% to ~ 30%. The accreted ice masses ratio decreases with the increase in the wind speed and/or median volume diameter. For the cases with non-zero AoA, the accreted ice masses become approximately equal, when the AoA is large enough to produce a vertical separation equal or greater to one cylinder diameter
