A study of the adequacy of quasi-geostrophic dynamics for modeling the effect of frontal cyclones on the larger scale flow

    Get PDF
The evolution of individual cyclone waves is studied in order to see how well quasi-geostrophic (QG) dynamics can simulate the behavior of primitive equations (PE) dynamics. This work is an extension of a similar study (Mudrick, 1982); emphasis is placed here on adding a frontal zone and other more diverse features to the basic states used. In addition, sets of PE integrations, with and without friction, are used to study the formation of surface occluded fronts within the evolving cyclones. Results of the study are summarized at the beginning of the report

The validity of quasi-geostrophic (QG) dynamics were tested on compared to primitive equation (PE) dynamics, for modeling the effect of cyclone waves on the larger scale flow. The formation of frontal cyclones and the dynamics of occluded frontogenesis were studied. Surface friction runs with the PE model and the wavelength of maximum instability is described. Also fine resolution PE simulation of a polar low is described

The Impact of Program Centralization on the Utilization of Social Services: The Case of the SSI Program

When the Old Age Assistance (OAA), Aid to the Blind (AB), and Aid to the Permanently and Totally Disabled (APTD) caseloads were converted to SSI in 1974, only cash payments were transferred to the Social Security Administration; social services remained available through public welfare agencies. This paper assesses the extent to which the service utilization of low income aged and disabled persons changed with the social service delivery system changes associated with the implementation of SSI. We found that the proportion of persons receiving social services decreased slightly between the last year of the old programs and the first year of SS. The decrease in utilization was among those who received few services before SSI while the proportion receiving many services increased after SSI implementation

Realizing the Human Right to Community Living for People with Disabilities: Challenges for Social Work in France and the United States

    Get PDF
Adults with disabilities have often been segregated and socially isolated in institutions, unable to choose their living circumstances. Disability rights laws enacted in France (2005) and the U.S. (1990) identify self-determination and community living as rights. However, with the same goal, the implementation structure of the laws is different. This poster summarizes our study that (1) assesses facilitators and barriers to inclusion in community living by examining the laws and their implementation in France and the U.S. and (2) examines how the aims for community living have affected the roles of social workers in each country. The analysis uses published reports from the U.S. and France, and key informant interviews in both countries. We find that for France, the most important element is assuring the ability to choose living circumstance, not the type or location of residence. The U.S. is focused on the level of community inclusion, with efforts to avoid the use of congregate settings. To realize the right to community living, the French disability rights law includes funds to individuals for accommodations, home modifications, and personal assistance; social workers play key roles in assessment and benefit determination. In the U.S. funds for inclusion are not coupled with the rights law, but there is an emphasis on enforcement and advocacy. U.S. social workers may assist person-centered planning or provide services through other programs. In each country, there are challenges to making inclusive community living a reality, and to the roles of social workers in support of this goal

*** This study aims to empirically examine the effect of leverage, liquidity, firm size, and activity ratio on Internet Financial Reporting. The population of this study are real estate and property sector companies listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange for the period 2019-2021. The sampling technique used is purposive sampling method with the final sample result is 60 observations. The data analysis technique in this study used data panel regression analysis and the data was processed with the help of the SPSS Version 26 program. The results of this study indicate that liquidity and firm size have a positive effect on Internet Financial Reporting, while leverage and activity ratio have no effect on Internet Financial Reporting. This research has supported signal theory in explaining the effect of liquidity and firm size on Internet Financial Reporting. In addition, this research can also be used as consideration for company management, investors, and regulators related to publication of company financial information using their personal website

Presence of Accessible Equipment and Interior Elements in Primary Care Offices

Purpose: To describe the disability accessibility level of primary care office interiors and the presence of accessible examination equipment. Methods: Data from on-site audits of 3993 primary care offices in California for 2013–2016 are descriptively analyzed. Architectural access is assessed using an instrument based on ADA Accessibility guidelines (ADAAG), along with noting accessibility of examination equipment. Results: Compliance across architectural elements was *85%. Accessible examination tables and scales were observed in 19.1% and 10.9% of offices, respectively. Conclusions: Proactive accessibility auditing makes visible the infrequent presence of accessible examination equipment. It offers data for tracking progress to increase medical office disability acces

Accessibility of Primary Health Care Settings for People with Disabilities

    Get PDF
People with disabilities report physical barriers in doctors’ offices that affect the quality of care. The analysis seeks to describe overall primary care office physical accessibility and identify (1) in which areas offices meet access criteria, (2) which accessibility criteria are most often not met, and (3) whether there are urban/non-urban differences
