Therapeutic potential of nuclear receptor agonists in Alzheimer's disease

Alzheimer's disease (AD) is characterized by an extensive accumulation of amyloid-β (Aβ) peptide, which triggers a set of deleterious processes, including synaptic dysfunction, inflammation, and neuronal injury, leading to neuronal loss and cognitive impairment. A large body of evidence supports that nuclear receptor (NR) activation could be a promising therapeutic approach for AD. NRs are ligand-activated transcription factors that regulate gene expression and have cell type-specific effects. In this review, we discuss the mechanisms that underlie the beneficial effects of NRs in AD. Moreover, we summarize studies reported in the last 10-15 years and their major outcomes arising from the pharmacological targeting of NRs in AD animal models. The dissection of the pathways regulated by NRs in the context of AD is of importance in identifying novel and effective therapeutic strategies

IFRS 9 – expected credit losses recognition: assessing the effects of the new expected credit losses model on the economy

During disturbing financial times, the economy suffers from the lack of provisioning that companies exhibit. Under IFRS 9, regulators intend to mitigate this issue. O contributo de Soren Kierkegaard em Los lirios del campo y las aves del cielo para uma leitura de Mt 6, 24-34

O presente estudo tem como principal objetivo perceber e demonstrar qual o verdadeiro contributo do autor dinamarquês Søren Kierkegaard, concretamente a partir dos seus discursos religiosos sobre Mt 6, 24-34, traduzidos, reunidos e compilados por Demetrio Gutiérrez Rivero na obra Los lirios del campo y las aves del cielo, para uma leitura do homónimo texto evangélico de São Mateus, cuja temática reporta à confiança na Providência e o enquadramento teológico é o Sermão da Montanha. Para tal, levamos a cabo uma tarefa tripartida de aproximação gradual aos sermões kierkegaardianos, começando por apresentar a linha ideológica do autor, seguindo-se uma análise aos comentários exegéticos da perícope, para, finalmente, terminar com o exame cuidado e a reflexão detalhada de cada um dos riquíssimos discursos religiosos de Kierkegaard. A chave de leitura desta pesquisa não poderia ser outra que não o cristianismo, abordado desde a sua mais profunda dimensão teológico-existencial, intermediado pela Criação e tendo ao leme a genialidade ímpar de Søren Kierkegaard.The main objective of this study is to understand and demonstrate the true contribution of the danish author Søren Kierkegaard, specifically from his religious discourses on Mt 6, 24-34, translated, assembled and compiled by Demetrio Gutiérrez Rivero in the book Los lirios del campo y las aves del cielo, for a reading of the homonymous evangelical text of St. Matthew, whose thematic reports to trust in Providence and the theological framework is the Sermon on the Mount. To this end, we carry out a tripartite task of gradual approach to the kierkegaardian sermons, beginning with the ideological line of the author, followed by an analysis of the exegetical comments of the pericope, to finally end the careful examination and the detailed reflection of each of Kierkegaard's very rich religious discourses. The key to this research could be no other than christianity, approached from its deepest theological-existential dimension, mediated by Creation and bearing at the helm the unique genius of Søren Kierkegaard

Projeto de estruturas de um edifício em betão armado com recurso ao programa de cálculo automático ETABS

Trabalho de Projeto para obtenção do grau de mestre em Engenharia CivilO presente trabalho intitulado “Projeto de Estruturas de um edifício em betão armado com recurso ao programa de cálculo automático ETABS” tem como objetivo dimensionar um edifício de 5 pisos situado em Lisboa. Para tal, aplicaram-se os Eurocódigos como regulamentação. Apesar destas normas ainda não serem obrigatórias em Portugal, há perspetivas de que o serão brevemente. Devido à complexidade que estes projetos por vezes apresentam, foi adotado um modelo numérico elaborado no programa de cálculo automático ETABS2015, que se baseia no método dos elementos finitos. Esta abordagem permite obter resultados mais corretos e com maior rapidez do que o recurso ao cálculo manual. Além do recurso ao cálculo automático, utilizaram-se também outras técnicas aprendidas ao longo do curso de Engenharia Civil. Este projeto é composto por várias fases: conceção estrutural, que teve por base as plantas de arquitetura, definição das bases de projeto, construção do modelo, classificação do sistema estrutural e da regularidade estrutural, passa pela análise sísmica e termina com o dimensionamento dos vários elementos estruturais. Finalmente são efetuadas as pormenorizações de dimensionamento dos diversos elementos estruturais. O programa de cálculo automático, ETABS, é uma ferramenta muito útil para execução do projeto, dando resultados fidedignos. Contudo, como em qualquer programa de cálculo automático, os resultados obtidos devem ser analisados com espírito crítico pois podem existir erros na modelação.Abstract: The aim of this study, entitled “Structure Project of a Reinforced Concrete Building using the automatic calculation program ETABS” is sizing a five-floor building to be located in Lisbon. To accomplish this ta sk, the Eurocodes were used as standards. These standards are not yet mandatory in Portugal. However, it is expected that the use of these rules will become mandatory soon. Due to the complexity of these projects, a numerical model created with the ETABS2015 calc automation software, based on the method of finite elements. With this approach, results are more correct and obtained faster. Besides the use of an automation tool, several techniques learnt along the courses of Civil Engineering Master were used. This project included several steps: the structural design, which was based on architectural plans, definition of the bases of the project, model construction, classification of structural system and structural regularity, followed by seismic analysis and ends with the sizing of various structural elements . Finally, the drawing of the various structural elements will be performed. The programme for automatic calculation, ETABS, is a very useful tool for project implementation, giving reliable results. Nevertheless, as in any other programme for automatic calculation, the obtained results must be examined critically due to possible mistakes ascribed to data entry by the user

Controlo Estatístico de Processos de Soldadura e Estampagem: Estudo de Caso na Indústria Automóvel

Qualidade é cada vez mais uma característica importante e diferenciadora no desenvolvimento das empresas nas mais variadas áreas, sendo por isso cada vez mais uma área de destaque e de elevada atenção por parte das empresas de modo a fornecer o melhor serviço ou produto possível aos seus clientes. O estudo de caso apresentado nesta dissertação foi desenvolvido na MCG, empresa do ramo da indústria automóvel. Existe um problema associado à soldadura de uma peça, existindo um risco de produzir produto não conforme. Este componente é constituído por três componentes previamente estampados. Para ajudar a resolver este problema o objetivo desta dissertação consistiu no desenvolvimento e aplicação de métodos de controlo estatístico para controlar o processo de estampagem destes vários componentes e por fim, implementar um sistema de controlo e monotorização desta operação final de soldadura. Para controlar estatisticamente estes processos foram utilizados cartas de controlo adaptadas às diferentes características dos processos (estampagem e soldadura) e aos meios disponíveis para recolhas de dados, destacando-se as cartas de controlo tradicionais e cartas de controlo adaptadas a ‘Pequenas Produções’. Analisando e estudando cada um dos processos destes componentes, apresentam-se sugestões de melhorias de modo a conseguir processos mais estáveis e capazes de produzir de acordo com as especificações do cliente e assim evitar a produção de produto não conforme.Quality is becoming more and more an important and differenting feature in the development of companies in a wide range of areas, which is why it is becoming a prominiet area of high attention by companies in order to deliver and provide the best service or product possible to their costumers. The case study presented in this dissertation was desenvolved on MCG, a company in the automobile industry. There is a problem associated with the welding of a part with the risk of producing non-conform product. This part is the sum of three parts previously stamped. To help solving this problem, this thesis objective consists in the application of statistic control methods to control this process of stamping on the three parts and in the end the implementation of a statistic control methods to control and monotorize the final operation of welding. To control these processes with statistical methods, were used control charts adapted to the different characteristics of the different processes (stamping and welding) and adapted to available measure equipments and data collection, highlighting then the tradicional control charts and control charts adapted to short runs. Analysing and studing each of these parts, the final stage of this dissertation refers to suggestions for improvements to achive more stable and capable processes to avoid the production of non- conform products
