Methods of *-representations in Hilbert space are applied to study of systems of nn subspaces in a linear space. It is proved that the problem of description of nn-transitive subspaces in a finite-dimensional linear space is *-wild for n5n \geq 5.Comment: Published in SIGMA (Symmetry, Integrability and Geometry: Methods and Applications) at http://www.emis.de/journals/SIGMA

Global visibility and exposure to drive the quality of doctoral education

Universities worldwide are expanding how they showcase electronic theses and dissertations and their authors. One way this is accomplished is video recordings of “3 Minute Thesis” competitions. Saint Petersburg State University goes one step further and documents the full defense of their dissertations on video and makes the recording openly available on the official university site together with full texts and opponents reviews. This is one part of their strategy to provide more transparency with the goal of enhancing the overall quality of dissertations. The second part of this strategy is the Library of Saint Petersburg State University working with ProQuest to disseminate dissertations to a global audience through ProQuest Dissertations and Theses (PQDT) database

Origins of the High Reactivity of Au Nanostructures Deduced from the Structure and Properties of Model Surfaces

In this chapter, experimental and theoretical studies on surface segregation in Ag-Au systems, including our own thermodynamic studies and molecular dynamics simulations of surface restructuring, on the basis of density functional theory are reviewed. The restructuring processes are triggered by adsorbed atomic O, which is supplied and consumed during catalysis. Experimental evidence points to the essential role of Ag impurities in nanoporous gold for activating O2. At the same time, increasing Ag concentration may be detrimental for the selectivity of partial oxidation. Understanding the role of silver requires a knowledge on its chemical state and distribution in the material. Recent studies using electron microscopy and photoelectron spectroscopy shed new light on this issue revealing a non-uniform distribution of residual Ag and co-existence of different chemical forms of Ag. We conclude by presenting an outlook on electromechanical coupling at Ag-Au surfaces, which shows a way to systematically tune the catalytic activity of bimetallic surfaces

Integral assessment of the effectiveness of investment projects on the basis of econometric methods

The objective of the article is the solution of the problem of theoretical foundation and methodical support of the formation of an integrated evaluation of investment projects on the basis of econometric methods. The result of the study is the development of the recommendations for the evaluation of the effectiveness of investment projects with the use of econometric methods that help to influence the value of the net present impact, profitability index, internal rate of return, payback period of the most significant factors that are crucial for the project both at the stage of development and at the stage of implementation. These factors have been determined on the basis of multifactorial regression models. In the following paper we present a novel approach to unstructured data processing by imposing a hierarchical graph-based structure on the data and decomposing it into separate subgraphs according to optimization criteria. In the scope of the paper we also consider the problem of automatic classification of textual data for the synthesizing the hierarchical data structure. The proposed approach uses textual information on the first stage to classify ideas, innovations, and objects of intellectual property (OIPs) to construct a multilayered graph. Numerical criteria are used to decompose constructed graph into separate subgraphs. In the scope of the research we apply the developed approach to the innovative ideas in a management case study.peer-reviewe

Confidence and RISC: How Russian papers indexed in the national citation database Russian Index of Science Citation (RISC) characterize universities and research institutes

The paper analyses Russian Index of Science Citation (RISC), a national citation database. We continue our previous study (Moskaleva et al., 2018) and focus on difference between bibliometric indicators calculated on, so to say, "the best" journals, so called RISC Core, and those which take into account all Russian journals available. Such a difference may show focuses of insitutional actors on different document types, publication strategies etc.Comment: 11 pages, 7 figures, Appendix.
