Electric field-induced creation and directional motion of domain walls and skyrmion bubbles
Magnetization dynamics driven by an electric field could provide long-term
benefits to information technologies because of its ultralow power consumption.
Meanwhile, the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction in interfacially asymmetric
multilayers consisting of ferromagnetic and heavy-metal layers can stabilize
topological spin textures, such as chiral domain walls, skyrmions, and skyrmion
bubbles. These topological spin textures can be controlled by an electric
field, and hold promise for building advanced spintronic devices. Here, we
present an experimental and numerical study on the electric field-induced
creation and directional motion of topological spin textures in magnetic
multilayer films and racetracks with thickness gradient and interfacial
Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya interaction at room temperature. We find that the
electric field-induced directional motion of chiral domain wall is accompanied
with the creation of skyrmion bubbles at certain conditions. We also
demonstrate that the electric field variation can induce motion of skyrmion
bubbles. Our findings may provide opportunities for developing skyrmion-based
devices with ultralow power consumption.Comment: 26 pages, 6 figure

Impact of Exercise Partner Attractiveness on Mood, Enjoyment, and Exertion
Social comparison theory was used to examine if males exercising with a female research confederate posing as either attractive or unattractive would alter their exercise mood, exertion, and enjoyment. A total of 101 college students (51 males and 51 females) were randomly assigned to one of three conditions: biking alone, biking with an attractive female confederate, or biking with the same female confederate appearing unattractive. All participants were instructed to complete 20 minutes of exercise at 60%-70% of their maximum target heart rate. Standard exercise mood measures (e.g., Activation-Deactivation Adjective Check List) were administered immediately prior to and immediately following exercise. Pulse rate and exercise work load (i.e., bike speed and RPMs) were assessed throughout the exercise experience and exercise enjoyment was measured following exercise. In the attractive condition, the confederate dressed fashionably in form fitting and stylish work-out clothes and wore make-up and jewelry while the same confederate in the unattractive condition wore baggie casual sweat clothes and no make-up or jewelry. Results indicated that female participants were more relaxed while males were less relaxed when they were in the unattractive confederate condition (p \u3c .05). However, no exertion differences emerged between experimental conditions (p’s \u3e .05). Participants reported the most enjoyment while in the control condition exercising alone and the least enjoyment in the attractive confederate condition (p \u3c .05). Social comparison theory predicts exercise outcome such that participants report less enjoyment yet more relaxation for females but less for males when exercising with an attractive female confederate thus altering their exercise experience based on those around them
In-Plane Magnetic Anisotropy In RF Sputtered Fe-N Thin Films
We have fabricated Fe(N) thin films with varied N2 partial pressure and
studied the microstructure, morphology, magnetic properties and resistivity by
using X-ray diffraction, atomic force microscopy, transmission electron
microscopy, vibrating-sample magnetometer and angle-resolved M-H hysteresis
Loop tracer and standard four-point probe method. In the presence of low N2
partial pressure, Fe(N) films showed a basic bcc a-Fe structure with a
preferred (110) texture. A variation of in-plane magnetic anisotropy of the
Fe(N) films was observed with the changing of N component. The evolution of
in-plane anisotropy in the films was attributed to the directional order
mechanism. Nitrogen atoms play an important role in refining the a-Fe grains
and inducing uniaxial anisotropy.Comment: 11 pages, 6 figure
The effect of visual suggestion on exercise motivation and outcomes
Theories of suggestion and motivation were used to examine if college students exercising in an environment with low or high motivation posters would affect mood, perceived exertion, and exercise workload (i.e., RPM and speed). A total of 134 students (62 males, 72 females) were randomly assigned to one of three conditions while exercising: relaxing posters (i.e., tropical nature), motivational posters (i.e., competitive bikers), or no posters (i.e., control). Participants completed 20 minutes of exercise at their own pace. Measures of mood were taken immediately prior to and following exercise. Exercise workload was recorded throughout. Results indicate that participants in the relaxing condition experienced higher levels of tension than those in the other two conditions. Participants in the motivational condition reported higher levels of relaxation. A consistency bias may have made participants uncomfortable in an exercise environment with relaxing images that are inconsistent with a typical exercise atmosphere
Diboryldiborenes: pi-conjugated B4 chains isoelectronic to the butadiene dication
sp2–sp3 diborane species based on bis(catecholato)diboron and N-heterocyclic carbenes (NHCs) are subjected to catechol/bromide exchange selectively at the sp3 boron atom. The reduction of the resulting 1,1-dibromodiborane adducts led to reductive coupling and isolation of doubly NHC-stabilized 1,2-diboryldiborenes. These compounds are the first examples of molecules exhibiting pi-electron delocalization over an all-boron chain
