    Two Essays on Macro-Financial Linkages

    In the following essays I examine the effects of two unique macro-financial conditions---tight credit and unconventional monetary policy---in an investment and a price discovery setting. I address two major questions from the macro-finance literature: (1) what are the states of nature in which excess returns are mostly affected? And, (2) does unconventional monetary policy influence the term structure of interest rates?;Results from my first essay show a differential effect of the credit cycle on firms in the cross-section. Firm\u27s excess returns are particularly affected in periods of tight credit conditions and the effect of the credit cycle is heterogeneous across firm types. Overall I concluded that tight credit conditions have a more severe impact on opaque firms and that opacity includes both smallness and access to credit sensitivity measures.;In my second essay I find quantitative easing and days of macroeconomic announcements are not a significant driver of price discovery when examining the impact of unconventional monetary policy along the yield curve. I argue that the unexpected result is due to the presence of a time-varying risk premium component which significantly influenced the yield curve during the period of quantitative easing examined

Programa de Pós-Graduação em Engenharia Elétrica.Este trabalho apresenta uma abordagem na preparação dos operadores do sistema elétrico, fazendo uso de novos softwares e introduzindo modernos procedimentos para a realização de treinamento. Inicialmente é passada uma visão geral de treinamento para adultos, diferente da educação elementar. Em seguida, apresenta-se o sistema elétrico brasileiro, a concepção do sistema de supervisão e controle utilizado pelo ONS e como é integrado o simulador de sistemas elétricos neste contexto. Uma nova estrutura no modo de treinar, adicionando a oportunidade de utilização de um simulador de treinamento de tempo real, se faz necessária para que o novo operador, ao adentrar na sala de controle, possa ter a segurança necessária para operar o sistema elétrico sem apresentar lacunas de conhecimento que a possível falta de experiência geraria. Este processo trata de montar uma nova visão em treinamento de profissionais de sala de controle dentro do Operador Nacional do Sistema Elétrico

    Major considerations of ortho-surgical procedures in Class III patients: a systematic review

    Introduction: In the setting of ortho-surgical procedure, malocclusion has a prevalence of about 6% in children in Brazil. Orthodontics excels in repair and cosmetic surgery. Most cases of Class III malocclusion have maxillary retrusion or hypoplasia, which may or may not be associated with mandibular prognathism. Objective: It was performed a systematic review to list the main considerations and clinical findings of ortho-surgical surgery in class III patients. Methods: The present study followed a systematic review model, following the rules of systematic review – PRISMA. The search strategy was performed in the PubMed, Cochrane Library, Web of Science and Scopus, and Google Scholar databases. The present study was carried out from February to May 2022. The quality of the studies was based on the GRADE instrument, with randomized controlled clinical studies, prospective controlled clinical studies, and studies of systematic review and meta-analysis listed as the studies with the greatest scientific evidence, and the risk of bias was analyzed according to the Cochrane instrument. Initially, 289 articles were found and, after selection, 54 articles were used to compose the present study. Results and Conclusion: According to the objective of this study, the Class III treatment should be related to the diagnosis to correct the compromised structures, not done in places not affected by the malocclusion. Still, the degree of involvement of the maxilla and mandible must be evaluated so that the treatment is directed to that bone base for facial improvement. The displacement processes that occur in the midface can only be affected with treatment as long as the growth zones can respond to the biomechanical stimulus. Therefore, the younger the Class III patient is treated, the better the facial correction effects will be

    Los romanceamientos castellanos de la Biblia Hebrea compuestos en la Edad Media: manuscritos y traducciones

    This paper presents a comprehensive analysis of 28 Hebrew lemmas and their translations into Castilian in the eleven medieval codices containing 15th century vernacular renderings of the Hebrew Bible into Old Spanish. The objective is to determine, through quantitative comparison of lexical coherence in the texts contained in each one of these manuscripts, how many translators were involved in the translations now preserved, either mixed or scattered in the various codices. We conclude that there are only six different 15th century translations from the Hebrew still stant: the complete Bible E3, the Pentateuch in E19, the complete Bible made up from the combination of the translations contained in the codices E7 and E5, the whole Bible that we call the Bible of the Marquis of Santillana (which is a combination of parts of the E4 codex and the BNE codex in its entirety), the Arragel Bible and the Former Prophets contained in the Oxford codex.Este trabajo presenta un análisis exhaustivo de 28 lemas hebreos y de sus correspondientes traducciones al castellano en los once códices medievales que contienen romanceamientos cuatrocentistas de la Biblia hebrea. El objetivo es determinar, mediante la comparación cuantitativa de la coherencia léxica de los textos transmitidos en cada uno de estos manuscritos, cuántos traductores participaron en las traducciones que ahora se conservan o bien mezcladas o bien diseminadas en los distintos códices. Se concluye que se preservan solamente seis traducciones diferentes del siglo xv hechas a partir del hebreo: la Biblia completa de E3, el Pentateuco de E19, la Biblia completa que supone la combinación de la traducción contenida en los códices E7 y E5, la Biblia completa que denominamos Biblia del Marqués de Santillana (y que es una combinación de partes del códice E4 y del códice completo de BNE), la Biblia de Arragel y los Profetas Anteriores contenidos en el códice de Oxford

    Clinical assessment instruments validated for nursing practice in the Italian context: a systematic review of the literature

    Aims. With the aim to identify the instruments validated for Italian nursing practice, a systematic review of the literature was undertaken.Results. A total of 101 instruments emerged. The majority (89; 88.1%) were developed in other countries; the remaining (14; 13.9%) were developed and validated in the Ital-ian context. The instruments were developed to measure patient’s problems (63/101; 62.4%), outcomes (27/101; 26.7%), risks (4/101; 4%) and others issues (7/101; 6.9%). The majority of participants involved in the validation processes were younger adults (49; 48.5%), older adults (40; 39.5%), children (4; 4%), adolescents (3; 3%), and children/adolescents (1; 1%). The instruments were structured primarily in the form of questionnaires (61; 60.4%), as a grid for direct observation (27; 26.7%) or in other forms (12; 11.9%). Among the 101 instruments emerged, there were 1 to 7 validation measures documented with on average 3.2 (95% CI 2.86-3.54) for each instrument.Conclusions. Developing validation studies giving priority to those instruments widely adopted in the clinical nursing practice is recommended.  

    Semantic services in e-learning: an argumentation case study

    This paper outlines an e-Learning services architecture offering semantic-based services to students and tutors, in particular ways to browse and obtain information through web services. Services could include registration, authentication, tutoring systems, smart question answering for students’ queries, automated marking systems and a student essay service. These services – which might be added incrementally to the portal – could be integrated with various ontologies such as ontologies of educational organisations, students and courses. In this paper, we describe a few scenarios in the e-learning domain and illustrate the role of a few services. We also describe in some detail a service doing semantic annotation of argumentation in student essays for allowing visualization of argumentation and providing useful feedback to student
