Open and flexible curricula: case analysis of an university course with ICT integration

El objetivo es realizar el estudio de un caso representado por una experiencia educativa en la cual se han integrado tecnologías digitales con el objeto de mejorar el desarrollo de las competencias de lectura y escritura necesarias para el nivel superior. El caso seleccionado provee evidencia empírica relevante sobre los alcances del formato curricular abierto y flexible, que podría potenciar las prácticas de la enseñanza.The aim of this paper is to examine a case study of an educational experience in which digital technologies were used in order to improve academic reading and writing. The polyphony at the e-learning forums

En los últimos años observamos en el mundo de la empresa, las instituciones educativas, los centros recreativos y otras organizaciones cómo se diseñan cursos, trayectos, seminarios, etc. que atienden diversas demandas y necesidades de formación. Estos programas que dictan especialistas de diversas disciplinas se enmarcan cada vez más en modelos de aprendizaje basados en la construcción de conocimiento. Este cambio se ha visto favorecido por la irrupción de las tecnologías de la información y la comunicación (TIC), que proporcionan un buen soporte para que interactúen estudiantes y tutores. En los foros de formación que se proponen, espacio privilegiado para la intervención de todos los actores, los alumnos y docentes realizan sus participaciones a través de textos que pueden analizarse más allá de las palabras que expone el productor efectivo del mensaje.  Estos mensajes integran otros textos que el emisor trae a consideración cuando realiza sus participaciones. Estos otros textos integran las "otras voces" del discurso de los alumnos. Desde esta perspectiva resulta interesante advertir las diferentes voces a las cuales los alumnos recurren para realizar sus intervenciones y cómo se integran en el texto producido por los alumnos. El objetivo de este artículo, por tanto, es mostrar el modo en que estas otras voces que hacen presentes en las intervenciones de los participantes tomando en consideración para este análisis un foro de formación online de un programa de formación. Para ello se analizan dichas intervenciones desde algunos conceptos claves de la teoría polifónica de la enunciación de Ducrot (1984; 1986) y otros de los procedimientos de cita de Authier (1984).In the last years we observed in the world of business, educational institutions, recreational facilities and other organizations how to design courses, trips, seminars, etc. that address different requirements and training needs. These programs are taught by specialists of diverse disciplines and are increasingly framed in learning models based on the construction of knowledge. This change has been aided by the rise of information and communication technologies (TIC), which provides a good support so that students and tutors interact. In the forums, space privileged for the intervention, students and teachers make their investments through texts that can be analyzed beyond the words written by the producer of the message. These messages integrate other texts that the speaker/writer brings to consideration when he makes his participation. Thus, they comprise the “other voices” of the speech of the students. From this perspective it is interesting to note these voices which students use as a resource for their interventions, as well as to investigate how they get integrated into the text produced by them. The aim of this paper therefore is to show how these other voices are made present in the participant’s speech taking into consideration for this analysis an online forum from a higher education program. These interventions are analyzed using some key concepts of Ducrot’s polyphonic theory of enunciation (1984, 1986) and other referencing procedures by Authier (1984).Fil: Moran, Lourdes. Il contributo dell’e-learning: Studio sullo sviluppo dell’esperienza MIFORCAL

El siglo XXI se inició y continúa con la convicción de que la formación de calidad debe ajustarse y dar respuesta a las necesidades de cambio de la sociedad, y que la formación no puede desligarse del uso de las tecnologías. Diversas instituciones académicas desarrollaron experiencias formativas que pusieron de manifiesto la adecuada utilización de las posibilidades que aportan las tecnologías de la información y de la comunicación, garantizando sistemas formativos de calidad al alcance de una amplia gama de personas. Si queremos seguir progresando en el uso de las redes y la tecnología multimedia se hace necesario tener conocimiento de las dimensiones fundamentales de la formación en entornos online, para el diseño de propuestas de calidad. Intervenciones de enfermería y aplicación de los cuidados durante la atención del parto de bajo riesgo según normas y protocolo en el C/S Tomas Borge Martínez de Ciudad Sebaco Departamento de Matagalpa, II semestre 2016

Las intervenciones de enfermería tienen inmersos todos los cuidados independientes para cumplir el objetivo de llegar de forma satisfactoria a las pacientes, el propósito de la investigación es analizar las intervenciones de enfermería según normativa y aplicación de cuidados durante la atención del parto de bajo riesgo en el centro de salud Tomas Borge Martínez de Ciudad Sébaco, Matagalpa II semestre 2016, es de importancia porque se obtiene conocimiento acerca de la eficacia y eficiencia de las intervenciones aplicadas en los cuidados con las pacientes en estudio, logra involucrar al personal de salud y estudiantes en el manejo de los cuidados de enfermería aplicando correctamente las normas y protocolos de bajo riesgo, donde las principales conclusiones fueron: a). Se documentaron las intervenciones de enfermería durante la atención del parto de bajo riesgo en la Normativa 011 (2015), en la normativa 042 (2009) en Schwartz (2008- 2010) por cada periodo del parto. b) Se compararon las intervenciones de enfermería en los tres periodos del parto con el cuidado aplicado durante la atención en las pacientes en estudio las cuales en su mayoría se realizaron de forma incorrecta. c) Se evaluaron las intervenciones aplicadas en el cuidado a las pacientes en estudio y dieron como resultado insatisfactorio. A Historical Narrative On The Formative Years And Organizational Culture Of Ave Maria University: 2003 To 2011

In this study, I focused on the history of Ave Maria University during its formative years in Florida from 2003 to 2011 to answer the research question: How did a new, conservative Catholic university emerge in the United States at the beginning of the 21st century? Understanding the history and culture of Ave Maria informs how the institution came about and is still operational today, even when other small institutions are closing their doors. The study utilized a historical narrative approach to uncover and document Ave Maria’s early history, the physical transition of moving campus locations twice, the accreditation process, and the university’s organizational culture. The study applied Edgar Schein’s model of organizational culture to discover institutional insights from artifacts, espoused values, and basic underlying assumptions. The results yielded recommendations on the importance of long-term financial stability, the significance of a values-based mission, the importance of faculty and staff fit, and alignment of the curriculum with the mission

Qualitative research methods to analyze Learning 2.0 processes: Categorization, recurrence, saturation and multimedia triangulation

The developments of the Web have generated new modalities and contexts of learning, shaping what is nowadays called “Learning 2.0”. Within this new phenomenon it arises a trend of moving out from the linearity of written word toward new multimedia complexities, that lead to a parallel semiotic complexity lying behind them. Understanding the above mentioned complexities implies to preserve and make explicit the collaboratory construction of knowledge through the identification of events, instruments, signs. This identification is in fact an analytic process, where the researcher divides the raw data into units of meaning making that must be read both in the specific contribution made by every mode (text, images, audio) as well as a whole. This is possible through an inverse process of analysis and interpretation that depends on specific instruments regarding the qualitative methodological approach. These last must be, in fact, appropriated to the new environments and phenomena. In this work the authors introduce several examples of educational research practice where categorization and triangulation were implemented on data collected from interactive processes in online learning environments, to further obtain recurrences and saturation of data. Identificación de nuevas oportunidades de negocios a nivel internacional para agencias de viajes mayoristas y minoristas

La presente monografía identifica las oportunidades de negocios a nivel internacional para agencias de viajes mayoristas y minoristas, divididas en tres categorías: oportunidades basadas en nuevas tecnologías, formas de comercialización y segmentos de turistas, a su vez, clasificadas según el beneficio que aporta su implementación para mayoristas y minoristas. Se investigó sobre los antecedentes históricos de las agencias, para conocer la problemática actual que enfrentan e identificar las nuevas oportunidades que el mercado facilita, para el avance y adecuación de las agencias a las exigencias del consumidor actual. Con el desarrollo de la investigación, se concluyó que las agencias de viajes están en un período de transición entre ofrecer servicios únicamente presenciales a utilizar la tecnología como apoyo o medio para ofrecerlos, basándose en esto se recomiendan acciones de mejora inmediata y se propone una guía de identificación de oportunidades, para garantizar una mejora continua a la agenciaTrabajo final de carrera, para optar al grado de Licenciado en Turism

The Ability of Narrative Communication to Address Health-Related Social Norms

Social norms are an important predictor of health behavior and have been targeted by a variety of health communication campaigns. However, these campaigns often encounter challenges related to the socially specific context in which norms exist: specifically, the extent to which the target population identifies with the specific reference group depicted and the extent to which the target population believes the campaign’s message. We argue that because of its capacity to effect identification among viewers, narrative communication is particularly appropriate for impacting social norms and, consequently, behavioral intention. This manuscript presents the results of a randomized trial testing the effectiveness of two films – one narrative, one non-narrative – in changing perceived social norms and behavioral intention regarding Pap testing to detect cervical cancer. Results of the study indicate that the narrative film was in fact more effective at producing positive changes in perceived norms and intention

Reducing the Excess Burden of Cervical Cancer among Latinas: Translating Science into Health Promotion Initiatives

Purpose: Although deaths from cervical cancer are declining, Latinas are not benefiting equally in this decline. Incidence of invasive cervical cancer among Los Angeles’, California Latinas is much higher than among non-Latina Whites (14.7 versus 8.02 per 100,000). This paper examines cervical cancer screening among Latinas. Methods: Ninety-seven women of Mexican origin participated in 12 focus groups exploring barriers to screening. Saturation was reached. Results: All participants knew what a Pap test was and most knew its purpose. More acculturated participants understood the link between HPV and cervical cancer. More recent immigrants did not. There was confusion whether women who were not sexually active need to be screened. Most frequently mentioned barriers were lack of time and concern over missing work. Lower income and less acculturated women were less likely to be aware of free/lowcost clinics. Older and less acculturated participants held more fatalistic beliefs, were more embarrassed about getting a Pap test, were more fearful of being perceived as sexually promiscuous, and were more fearful of receiving disapproval from their husbands. Conclusions: Latinas are informed regarding cervical cancer screening; rather they encounter barriers such as a lack of time, money and support. Health promotion interventions can be enhanced via peer-to-peer education, by addressing barriers to cervical cancer screening with in-language, culturally tailored interventions, and working with clinics on systemic changes, such as extended clinic hours

Student learning experiences during COVID-19 pandemic: An analysis of synchronous and asynchronous activity in higher education

A fin de conocer las propuestas de enseñanza remota de emergencia durante la pandemia por COVID-19, se propuso indagar las experiencias vividas por el estudiantado. Se realizó un relevamiento que permitió, desde una lógica cualitativa, explorar los sentidos y significados que le otorga el estudiantado a la virtualización de la enseñanza, particularmente a la actividad sincrónica y asincrónica. La indagación y el análisis mixto de la información facilitó la construcción de cuatro dimensiones: la configuración del tiempo y del espacio; la accesibilidad, los recursos técnicos y las habilidades tecnológicas; la modalidad de enseñanza y su relación con el aprendizaje; y los espacios y modalidades de interacción. Los resultados evidencian la necesidad de pensar en transformaciones de los escenarios educativos en términos de un continuo de espacios y tiempos, diferentes y articulados, con propuestas que respeten la diversidad en la que se produce la enseñanza y los procesos de aprendizaje.This paper investigates students’ experiences during emergency remote teaching caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The meanings that students give to the virtualization of teaching were explored through the application of a qualitative survey. The mixed analysis of the information facilitated the construction of four dimensions: the configuration of time and space; accessibility through technical resources and technological skills; the relationship between the teaching modality and the proposed learning; and the spaces and modalities of interaction. The results show the need to think about transformations of educational scenarios in terms of a continuum of spaces and times, different and articulated, with proposals that respect the diversity in which the teaching and learning processes take place.Fil: Moran, Lourdes.
