Problems of Professional Competencies and Pre-Licensed Counselors: Licensure Supervisors’ View of Critical Incidents

Problems of professional competencies (PPC) and remediation have grown in awareness in the counseling profession and within the literature. Counselor education programs adopt guidelines from their accrediting bodies to identify, evaluate, and remediate PPC exhibited by counseling students. The literature indicates that students are still entering the professional field without proper remediation and are seeking licensure through licensure supervision. Manuscript one includes a review of literature regarding PPC in context of licensure supervision. The literature indicates lack of structure within licensure supervision, reports of inadequate and harmful supervision, issues of non-disclosure, and lack of observation of pre-licensure counselors’ clinical skills by supervisors. A framework is suggested to assist licensure supervisors in addressing concerns regarding PPC through written contracts, increase in supervisor training, and professional development plan structure for licensure supervision. Future policy and research directions are explored. In manuscript two, counseling licensure supervisors (n = 190) were surveyed to broaden the literature regarding supervisors’ observations of PPC in the field; impact of PPC; and understanding, willingness, and responsibility to remediate PPC. A total of 44 licensure supervisors contributed 65 critical incidents regarding addressing PPC within licensure supervision. These incidents raise concerns about the lack of systemic support, ethical violations, and supervisors’ preparedness. Licensure supervisors reported their personal emotions being impacted negatively, needing to address PPC without proper framework or support, encountering systemic barriers, and as a result struggling to navigate more critical incidents involving ethical violations. Piedra Hincada of El Shincal de Quimivil

Las investigaciones de los sitios incaicos implican un cierto abordaje teórico-metodológico en pos de caracterizar y comprender diferentes aspectos de la vida cotidiana, social, política, ritual y económica de una sociedad, en este caso la incaica. El objetivo de este trabajo consiste en la presentación y caracterización de una kancha incaica localizada a la vera de la vía principal de acceso al sitio El Shincal de Quimivil, ubicado en la localidad de Londres del departamento de Belén, en el centro-oeste de la provincia de Catamarca. Dicha vía constituye un tramo del Qhapaq Ñan o Camino Principal Andino que ha sido identificado como el "camino de la Sierra" de acuerdo al cronista Antonio de Herrera y Tordesillas (1492-1531) (Raffino 1981; Hyslop 1984). Este conjunto residencial se encuentra ubicado en el sector norte del sitio El Shincal de Quimivil y ha sido denominado Conjunto Piedra Hincada (Figura 1). El mismo fue trabajado por primera vez, hacia fines de la década del ´90, por el Dr. Rodolfo Raffino y un equipo de colaboradores conformado por los Lics. Darío Iturriza, Diego Gobbo y Victoria Montes. Después de realizar excavaciones en el interior de dos recintos, los materiales obtenidos quedaron depositados, durante un largo tiempo, en el Museo El Shincal de la localidad de Londres sin ser analizados. Con motivo de emprender nuestras investigaciones, vinculadas a las unidades residenciales asociadas al Qhapaq Ñan1,, decidimos dar con dichos materiales y proceder a su respectivo análisis. Esta tarea también trajo aparejado recabar el resto de la información como libretas de campo y planillas de excavación. También se realizaron nuevos trabajos de prospección y análisis arquitectónico y topográfico. The Visit de Merle Collins y The Bed Sitting Room de Maureen Ismay: dos aproximaciones al tema del desplazamiento en la literatura post-colonial

[Abstract] This paper seeks to analyse how the theme of displacement, a key issue in Post-Colonial literature, is dealt with in two short stories by two Caribbean female writers, that is, Merle CoUin's "The Visit" and Maureen Ismay's "The Bed Sitting Room". In both stories, seve- ral thematic motifs, especially gender, race and language, intertwine in the depiction of the feeling of displacement of the female protagonists and their quest for a new identity. The ten- sion mother --daughter, metropolis- colony, self -home, also adds to the representation of this dislocation. Though coinciding in certain aspects, the different origin of the displace- ment of the female protagonists will be reflected in the different solution to the conflict of the los s of identity through the recovery of a new relationship between self and place tqat each story portrays
