Gender is not included in the traditional ways to explain development. The developmént^ 7 programs promoted by intemational organizations (like the World Bank) were, at least till recently, formally neutral to the gender problematic. This has partly diminished the results these programs have achieved. Nowadays this problematic is already considered in the World Bank programs, but in a limited way. In the economic analysis which are the basis of the design of the programs, it is normally still absent. And, when it is considered, it's almost exclusively limited to the desegregation of the economic agents by sex. The dynamism of the gender roles, of the tasks performed by men and women in a society is eliminated in traditional economic analysis by the use of the concept of homo economicus: the egoistic and rational agent, maximizer of it's individual utility. At the macro-economic levei, the exclusion of the social reproduction sector, where women have a crucial role, rises a series of problems for the achievement of long term human development goals.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

The global increasing importance of the Internet in the various segments of society is explicit, and its rapid control by younger users particularly seems irrefutable. But what do they consume? This paper presents the partial and preliminary results of the Project - The consumption and sharing contents of Internet by students of higher education: the case of the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu, Portugal, specifically related to the consumption practices of Internet content by students of the School of Education, one of the Polytechnic Institute of Viseu Schools. The principal objective of the Project is to understand the use that higher education students do of the contents available on the Internet. The methodological approach includes the application of an online questionnaire survey, with questions related to: i) the socio-demographic and institutional data of the participants; ii) access to and use of the Internet; iii) competences for its use; iv) consumption and sharing content; v) and attitudes and preferences regarding consumption and sharing. The sample includes 120 students, with participation of students attending the courses of Social Communication (N=79) and Multimedia and Plastics Arts (N=32). Most of the participants are female (N=88), attend the 1st year of the course (N=88) and the average age is 19.36 years (SD=2.56). Asked about how often they access the Internet, 95.8% of the students said they use it every day. Preliminary results from the quantitative analysis suggest that the most popular activities are: listen to music, see photos and read text posts on social networks daily. The analysis presented in this article refers only to data obtained between June and September 2017 and was performed using the SPSS - Statistical Package for Social Sciences.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio

This article presents a literature review about media consumption and content sharing on the Internet and is part of a research project that aims to outline and understand practices shared among students of a specific Portuguese higher education institution. Much of the studies found allow us to conclude that students that currently attend higher education are used to multitasking and are active users of online devices, platforms and services in both personal and learning contexts. Research shows that the presence of technology and social media in the daily life of young people is no longer just a growing trend but rather a current fact, which produces intensive and participatory communication dynamics.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio

Twelve biochars from forest and agri-food wastes (pruning of Quercus ilex, Eucalyptus grandis, Pinus pinaster, Quercus suber, Malus pumila, Prunus spinosa, Cydonia oblonga, Eriobotrya japonica, Juglans regia, Actinidia deliciosa, Citrus sinensis and Vitis vinifera) were investigated as potential low-cost and renewable adsorbents for removal of a commonly used pharmaceutical, fluoxetine. Preliminary adsorption experiments allowed to select the most promising adsorbents, Quercus ilex, Cydonia oblonga, Eucalyptus, Juglans regia and Vitis vinifera pruning material. They were characterized by proximate, elemental and mineral analysis, thermogravimetric analysis, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, determination of specific surface area and pH at the point of zero charge. Batch and equilibrium studies were performed, and the influence of pH was evaluated. The equilibrium was reached in less than 15 min in all systems. The maximum adsorption capacity obtained was 6.41 mg/g for the Eucalyptus biochar, which also demonstrated a good behavior in continuous mode (packed column).Manuela M.
