Reducing The Risk Of Floods In Urban Areas With Combined Inland-River System
With the change of the water environment in accordance with climate change, the loss of lives and properties has increased due to urban flood. Although the importance of urban floods has been highlighted quickly, the construction of advancement technology of an urban drainage system combined with inland-river water and its relevant research has not been emphasized in Korea. In addition, without operation in consideration of combined inland-river water, it is difficult to prevent urban flooding effectively. This study, therefore, develops the uncertainty quantification technology of the risk-based water level and the assessment technology of a flood-risk region through a flooding analysis of the combination of inland-river. The study is also conducted to develop forecast technology of change in the water level of an urban region through the construction of very short-term/short-term flood forecast systems. This study is expected to be able to build an urban flood forecast system which makes it possible to support decision making for systematic disaster prevention which can cope actively with climate change
Frequency-Based Decentralized Conservation Voltage Reduction Incorporated Into Voltage-Current Droop Control for an Inverter-Based Islanded Microgrid
Conservation voltage reduction (CVR) aims to decrease load demands by regulating bus voltages at a low level. This paper proposes a new strategy for decentralized CVR (DCVR), incorporated into the current-based droop control of inverter-interfaced distributed energy resources (IDERs), to improve the operational reliability of an islanded microgrid. An controller is developed as an outer feedback controller for each IDER, consisting of controllers for the DCVR and and controllers for power sharing. In particular, the controllers adjust the output voltages of the IDERs in proportion to the frequency variation determined by the controllers. This enables the output voltages to be reduced by the same amount, without communication between the IDERs. The controllers are responsible for reactive power sharing by adjusting the voltages while taking into account the controllers. Small-signal analysis is used to verify the performance of the proposed DCVR with variation in the and droop gains. Case studies are also carried out to demonstrate that the DCVR effectively mitigates an increase in the load demand, improving the operational reliability, under various load conditions determined by power factors and load compositions.11Ysciescopu
Optimal Voltage Control Using an Equivalent Model of a Low-Voltage Network Accommodating Inverter-Interfaced Distributed Generators
The penetration of inverter-based distributed generators (DGs), which can control their reactive power outputs, has increased for low-voltage (LV) systems. The power outputs of DGs affect the voltage and power flow of both LV and medium-voltage (MV) systems that are connected to the LV system. Therefore, the effects of DGs should be considered in the volt/var optimization (VVO) problem of LV and MV systems. However, it is inefficient to utilize a detailed LV system model in the VVO problem because the size of the VVO problem is increased owing to the detailed LV system models. Therefore, in order to formulate and solve the VVO problem in an efficient way, in this paper, a new equivalent model for an LV system including inverter-based DGs is proposed. The proposed model is developed based on an analytical approach rather than a heuristic-fitting one, and it therefore enables the VVO problem to be solved using a deterministic algorithm (e.g., interior point method). In addition, a method to utilize the proposed model for the VVO problem is presented. In the case study, the results verify that the computational burden to solve the VVO problem is significantly reduced without loss of accuracy by the proposed model.11Ysciescopu
Cephalometric predictors of long-term stability in the early treatment of class III malocclusion
The aim of this study was to examine the differences in the early craniofacial morphology
of Class III malocclusions. Lateral cephalograms of 45 subjects with a Class III malocclusion
and an anterior crossbite in the deciduous or mixed dentition were examined before treatment,
after treatment, and during the long-term retention stage. The anterior crossbites of all
patients were corrected after a series of orthodontic treatments. After a mean follow-up period of
5.7 years, all the subjects were reevaluated and divided into three groups according to the final
occlusal status: good, fair, and poor occlusal stability. Twenty cephalometric variables on the
pretreatment lateral cephalograms were analyzed by one-way analysis of variance and discriminant
analysis to identify the key determinants for discriminating among the three groups. Among
the 20 variables, 11 showed statistical significance. Generally, the subjects with a smaller gonial
angle and a more hypodivergent skeletal pattern had good prognosis after the early treatment of
Class III malocclusion. When the AB to mandibular plane angle and N-perpendicular to point A
were selected in discriminant analysis, the AB to mandibular plane angle was the most significant
variable. Discriminant analysis showed a relatively high degree of correct classifications of the
patients with early Class III malocclusion. In particular, discriminant analysis showed the highest
accuracy (93.3%) when predicting a poor prognosis.This study was supported by a grant from the Korea Health 21

Preparation of polylactide-co-glycolide nanoparticles incorporating celecoxib and their antitumor activity against brain tumor cells

Background: Celecoxib, a cyclo-oxygenase (COX)-2 inhibitor, has been reported to mediate growth inhibitory effects and to induce apoptosis in various cancer cell lines. In this study, we examined the potential effects of celecoxib on glioma cell proliferation, migration, and inhibition of COX-2 expression in vitro. Methods: Celecoxib was incorporated into poly DL-lactide-co-glycolide (PLGA) nanoparticles for antitumor drug delivery. Results: PLGA nanoparticles incorporating celecoxib had spherical shapes and their particle sizes were in the range of 50–200 nm. Drug-loading efficiency was not significantly changed according to the solvent used, except for acetone. Celecoxib was released from the PLGA nanoparticles for more than 2 days, and the higher the drug content, the longer the duration of drug release. PLGA nanoparticles incorporating celecoxib showed cytotoxicity against U87MG tumor cells similar to that of celecoxib administered alone. Furthermore, celecoxib did not affect the degree of migration of U87MG cells. PLGA nanoparticles incorporating celecoxib showed dose-dependent cytotoxicity similar to that of celecoxib alone in C6 rat glioma cells. Western blot assay of the C6 cells showed that neither celecoxib alone nor PLGA nanoparticles incorporating celecoxib affected COX-2 expression. Conclusion: PLGA nanoparticles incorporating celecoxib had antitumor activity similar to that of celecoxib alone, even though these particles did not affect the degree of migration or COX-2 expression in the tumor cells. Assessment of Allergic Rhinitis Websites in Korea
Objectives. The internet has become an important source of medical information and a great amount of information related to allergic rhinitis (AR) is available on the internet. However, the quality of this information is still a matter of debate. Therefore, this study was conducted to assess the AR-related information on Korean websites. Methods. The key word "allergic rhinitis" was entered into 4 popular search engines, and this led to identifying 40 websites. After being categorized according to authorship, the informational value of these websites was evaluated using 4 different assessment tools such as the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) benchmarks, the DISCERN questionnaire, the Allergic Rhinitis and its Impact on Asthma (ARIA) 2008 Update and the Health On the Net (HON) code. Results. The 40 websites containing AR-related information were categorized according to their authorship as Western physician: 20, Oriental physician: 14, commercial: 1, and others: 5. The mean citation frequencies of the JAMA benchmarks and the ARIA 2008 Update concepts was 1.23 out of 4 and 4.33 out of 8, respectively, while the mean DISCERN score was 1.92 out of 5. When the websites were evaluated based on the type of authorship, the mean citation frequencies of the AMA 2008 Update concepts were Western physician: 5.35, Oriental physician: 2.64. Additionally, three websites authored by Western physicians and 13 authored by Oriental physicians contained unreliable information. Among these 16 websites, only 3 websites met the requirements for the HON code "Justification". Conclusion. AR-related information available on Korean websites is of variable quality and not all of the information provided is justifiable. Thus, performing surveillance of the medical information on these websites is necessary. Spontaneous Uterine Rupture in the First Trimester: A Case Report
Uterine rupture is one of the most feared obstetric complications affecting the pregnant woman and fetus. Most of the cases have various risk factors and mainly occur during the second or third trimester. However, spontaneous uterine rupture during the first trimester is extremely rare. We experienced a case of spontaneous uterine rupture in a 36-yr-old multiparous woman without definite risk factors. The initial impression was a hemoperitoneum of an unknown origin with normal early pregnancy. Intensive surgical method would be needed for accurate diagnosis and immediate management in bad situation by hemoperitoneum even though a patient was early pregnancy
Correlation of Femoral Muscle Volume Using Three-Dimensional Modeling and Locomotor Function After Unilateral Trans-femoral Amputation
Objective To evaluate the relationship between femoral muscle volume (FMV) and physiological outcomes after trans-femoral amputations (TFAs) affecting overall locomotor function in patients. Methods Seven individuals who underwent TFA and had been using a prosthesis participated in this cross-sectional study. Gait and balance were assessed using clinical tests, such as 10-m walk test, 6-minute walk test, Berg Balance Scale, and automatic balance system. Respiratory gas analysis was performed to check oxygen consumption rate. Five participants were evaluated for bilateral FMV by MR imaging and FMV was reconstructed using three-dimentional remodeling. Results In five participants, significant differences were found between the non-involved and involved sides in femur length, total FMV, and functional muscle volume (all p<0.01) in all groups except for the hip adductor volume. The %mean difference between the non-involved and involved sides was 30% for femur length, 52.55% for hip flexor volume, 26.55% for hip adductor volume, 51.86% for hip extensor volume, and 60.21% for knee extensor volume. The hip flexor volume to hip extensor volume ratio in the involved limb and oxygen consumption rate during comfortable gait were negatively correlated (r=-0.96, p=0.04). Conclusion In individuals who underwent unilateral TFA, hip girdle muscle imbalance in the involved limbs may be associated with oxygen consumption rate while using a prosthesis
