Experimental creep, temperature, and strain data resulting from a laboratory experiment on a built-up aluminum/titanium structure are presented. The structure and the experiment are described in detail. A heating and loading experiment lasting approximately six hours is conducted on a test structure. Considerable creep strain resulted from compressive stresses in the heated skin. Large residual stresses were found after the experiment was completed. The residual stresses in the substructure frames were large enough to preclude further cycles of creep experiments with this built-up structure because of concern that the frame webs would buckle

Long-range correlations and trends in Colombian seismic time series

We study long-range correlations and trends in time series extracted from the data of seismic events occurred from 1973 to 2011 in a rectangular region that contains mainly all the continental part of Colombia. The long-range correlations are detected by the calculation of the Hurst exponents for the time series of interevent intervals, separation distances, depth differences and magnitude differences. By using a modification of the classical R/SR/S method that has been developed to detect short-range correlations in time series, we find the existence of persistence for all the time series considered except for magnitude differences. We find also, by using the DFADFA until the third order, that the studied time series are not influenced by trends. Additionally, an analysis of the Hurst exponent as a function of the number of events in the time and the maximum window size is presented.Comment: 21 pages, 6 figures, 2 figures added, types corrected, accepted to be published in Physica

ABSTRACT Emotional intelligence is a balance of control and regulator of one's own feelings, and of others, because it guides the thinking, rethinking and acting of the individual, extending to the management task in the university institutions. However, many university managers profess to be unfamiliar with this subject. From there, this documentary study has the purpose of analyzing the emotional intelligence in the human resource for management in times of change. The techniques and instruments used were the bibliographic records and the logbook framed in the theoretical revision of its main authors more representative like Goleman (2008). Forming the corpus of research with the components of emotional intelligence in the educational management. By the way, the behavioral characteristics of those who exercise this type of management in these times of change must be related to emotional abilities, based on Emotional Intelligence, which is the individual's ability to recognize and control his own feelings, sustain a Empathic attitude and manage interpersonal relationships. It was concluded the use of emotional intelligence generates in the human being satisfaction and their performances are effective at achieving, university change management It was concluded that the application of emotional intelligence by generating full human and effective. Two systems of five sediment traps were placed in the area of the dam of the Río Grande II reservoir (6·32,62' N, 75·27,27' W). Every ten days from April 2003 to July 2003 samples were taken with the purpose of determine the speed of mineralization of the particulate material and if it changes in relation to the mixing height. There was a tendency in which the ammonium fluctuated in relation to the height in the mixing layer and the temperature of the water. It was evidenced that with the increase in the height of the mixing layer the ammonium mineralization diminished; whereas the depth of mineralization didn't vary and the highest decomposition still occurred in the second trap. For nitrates, with the increase in temperature and the mixing height its consumption was higher than its liberation. Phosphorus mineralization flux showed a negative value during the investigation; it was associated to a rate of permanent consumption in the system. Phosphorus also showed a tendency to diminish its concentration with depth; this behavior has not been registered for a thermically stable tropical reservoir
