    AdS6AdS_6 T-duals and Type IIB AdS6×S2AdS_6\times S^2 Geometries with 7-Branes

We show that the first AdS6AdS_6 backgrounds in Type IIB supergravity known in the literature, namely those constructed via T-duality from the Brandhuber-Oz solution to massive IIA, fit within an extension of the global AdS6×S2AdS_6 \times S^2 solutions with 7-branes warped over a Riemann surface Σ\Sigma, recently classified by D'Hoker, Gutperle and Uhlemann, that describes delocalised 5-branes and 7-branes. The solution constructed through Abelian T-duality provides an explicit example of a Riemann surface with the topology of an annulus, that includes D7/O7-branes. In turn, the solution generated through non-Abelian T-duality arises from the upper half-plane.Comment: 36 pages plus appendices. 3 figures. v2: reference added. v3: section 5 improved, version accepted in JHE

A N=2\mathcal{N}=2 Supersymmetric AdS4AdS_4 Solution in M-theory with Purely Magnetic Flux

    Get PDF
We find a new N=2\mathcal{N}=2 AdS4AdS_4 solution in M-theory supported by purely magnetic flux via a sequence of abelian and non-abelian T-dualities. This provides the second known example in this class besides the uplift of the Pernici and Sezgin solution to 7d gauged supergravity constructed in the eighties. We compute the free energy of the solution, and show that it scales as N3/2N^{3/2}. It is intriguing that even though the natural holographic interpretation is in terms of M5-branes wrapped on a special Lagrangian 3-cycle, this solution does not exhibit the expected N3N^3 behavior.Comment: 19 pages plus appendices. v2 metadata amended, reference adde

Subjective Quality Assessment of the Impact of Buffer Size in Fine-Grain Parallel Video Encoding

    Get PDF
Fine-Grain parallelism is essential for real-time video encoding performance. This usually implies setting a fixed buffer size for each encoded block. The choice of this parameter is critical for both performance and hardware cost. In this paper we analyze the impact of buffer size on image subjective quality, and its relation with other encoding parameters. We explore the consequences on visual quality, when minimizing buffer size to the point of causing the discard of quantized coefficients for highest frequencies. Finally, we propose some guidelines for the choice of buffer size, that has proven to be heavily dependent, in addition to other parameters, on the type of sequence being encoded. These guidelines are useful for the design of efficient realtime encoders, both hardware and software

SU(2) vortex configuration in Laplacian Center Gauge

    Get PDF
We study how Laplacian Center Gauge identifies the vortex content of a thick SU(2) vortex configuration on the lattice. This configuration is a solution of the Yang-Mills classical equations of motion having vortex properties. We find that this gauge fixing procedure cleanly identifies the underlying vortex properties. We also study the monopole content of this configuration detected with this procedure. We obtain two monopole curves lying on the surface of the vortex.Comment: 22 pages, 10 PostScript figures. v2, 21 pages, 10 Postscript figures. New AdS3×S2AdS_3 \times S^2 T-duals with N=(0,4)\mathcal{N} = (0,4) supersymmetry

    Get PDF
It is well known that Hopf-fibre T-duality and uplift takes the D1-D5 near-horizon into a class of AdS3×S2AdS_3 \times S^2 geometries in 11D where the internal space is a Calabi-Yau three-fold. Moreover, supersymmetry dictates that Calabi-Yau is the only permissible SU(3)SU(3)-structure manifold. Generalising this duality chain to non-Abelian isometries, a strong parallel exists, resulting in the first explicit example of a class of AdS3×S2AdS_3 \times S^2 geometries with SU(2)SU(2)-structure. Furthermore, the non-Abelian T-dual of AdS3×S3×S3×S1AdS_3 \times S^3 \times S^3 \times S^1 results in a new supersymmetric AdS3×S2AdS_3 \times S^2 geometry, which falls outside of all known classifications. We explore the basic properties of the holographic duals associated to the new backgrounds. We compute the central charges and show that they are compatible with a large N=4\mathcal{N}=4 superconformal algebra in the infra-red.Comment: 30 pages plus one appendix. v2: updated references, v3: published versio

Source identification and quantification of particulate matter emitted from livestock houses

    Get PDF
There is need to identify and quantify the contribution of different sources to airborne particulate matter (PM) emissions from animal houses. To this end, we compared the chemical and morphological characteristics of fine and coarse PM from known sources collected from animal houses with the characteristics of on-farm fine and coarse airborne PM using two methods: classification rules based on decision trees and multiple linear regression. Fourteen different farms corresponding to seven different housing systems for poultry and pigs were sampled during winter. A total of 28 fine and 28 coarse on-farm airborne PM samples were collected, together with a representative sample of each known source per farm (56 known source samples in total). Source contributions were calculated as relative percentage contributions in particle numbers and then estimated in particle mass. Based on particle numbers, results showed that in poultry houses, most on-farm airborne PM originated from feathers (ranging from 4% to 43% in fine PM and from 6% to 35% in coarse PM) and manure (ranging from 9% to 85% in fine PM and from 30% to 94% in coarse PM). For pigs, most on-farm airborne PM originated from manure (ranging from 70% to 98% in fine PM and from 41% to 94% in coarse PM). Based on particle mass, for poultry most on-farm airborne PM still originated from feathers and manure; for pigs, however, most PM originated from skin and manure. Feed had a negligible contribution to on-farm airborne PM compared with other sources. Results presented in this study improve the understanding of sources of PM in different animal housing systems, which may be valuable when choosing optimal PM reduction technique

Note on Triangle Anomalies and Assignment of Singlet in 331-like Model

It is pointed out that in the 331331-like model which uses both fundamental and complex conjugate representations for an assignment of the representations to the left-handed quarks and the scalar representation to their corresponding right-handed counterparts, the nature of the scalar should be taken into account in order to make the fermion triangle anomalies in the theory anomaly-free, i.e. renormalizable in a sense with no anomalies, even after the spontaneous symmetry breaking.Comment: 8 page no figures, acknowledgments adde
