Metallogenesis of the Farallón Negro Rama Norte vein, Farallón Negro, Catamarca province
The Rama Norte vein in Farallón Negro deposit is located in Hualfín, Belén Department, Catamarca. This deposit belongs to the Tertiary Farallón Negro Volcanic Complex, the wall rock of the gold rich vein system. The Farallón Negro Rama Norte vein strikes N40°W, dips 65° NE, has 600 m length extends from the surface to a depth of about 400 meters. The wall rock is a monzonite with different types of hydrothermal alteration: intermediate argillic, silicic, phyllic and propylitic. The vein is composed of quartz, carbonates and Mn-oxides with banded, colloform and massive textures. The geochemical analyses indicate that gold-bearing vein samples are generally Ag- and base-metal poor. Gold also displays a positive correlation with Sb, but a negative correlation with Mn. High trace element contents (As, Cu, Mo, Pb, V and Zn) of polymineralic Mn-oxides suggest a hydrothermal origin. The values of carbon and oxygen isotopes in carbonates indicate magmatic and meteoric fluids participation in the hydrothermal system.Fil: Martínez, Facundo. Fundación Miguel Lillo; Argentina. The deposition of the spin crossover Fe(II)-pyrazolylborate complex on Au(111) surface at molecular level
The interaction at molecular level of the spin-crossover FeII((3,5-(CH3)2Pz)3BH)2 complex with
the Au(111) surface is analyzed by means of rPBE periodic calculations. Our results show that
the adsorption on the metallic surface enhances the transition energy, increasing the relative
stability of the low spin (LS) state. The interaction indeed is spin-dependent, stronger for the
low spin than the high spin (HS) state. The different strength of the Fe ligand field at low and
high temperature manifests on the nature, spatial extension and relative energy of the states
close to the Fermi level, with a larger metal-ligand hybridization in the LS state. This feature is
of relevance for the differential adsorption of the LS and HS molecules, the spin-dependent
conductance, and for the differences found in the corresponding STM images, correctly
reproduced from the density of states provided by the rPBE calculations. It is expected that
this spin dependence will be a general feature of the SCO molecule-substrate interaction, since
it is rooted in the different ligand field of Fe site at low and high temperatures, a common
hallmark of the Fe(II) SCO complexes.
Finally, the states involved in the LIESST phenomenon has been identify through NEVPT2
calculations on a model reaction path. A tentative pathway for the photoinduced LS--> HS
transition is proposed, that does not involve the intermediate triplet states, and nicely
reproduces both the blue laser wavelength required for the activation, and the wavelength of
the reverse HS -> LS transition.Ministerio de Ciencia e InnovaciónFEDER fundsV Plan Propio de Investigacion Universidad de SevillaANID, Postdoctorado en el extranjero Becas Chile, folio 7420002
An update on the exploratory use of curcumin in neuropsychiatric disorders
This article belongs to the Special Issue Dietary Antioxidants against Neurodegenerative Diseases.Curcumin is a polyphenol extracted from the rhizome of the turmeric plant. Beyond its common use as a culinary spice in Eastern Asia, curcumin has been proposed as a therapeutic compound due to its antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective properties. Thus, its efficacy has been evaluated in various inflammatory-based psychiatric disorders, such as schizophrenia, depression, or autism. Our aim is to review those preclinical and clinical studies carried out in psychiatric disorders whose therapeutic approach has involved the use of curcumin and, therefore, to discern the possible positive effect of curcumin in these disorders. Preclinical studies and completed clinical trials of curcumin for psychiatric disorders published from January 2005 to October 2021 were identified through searching relevant databases until 31st October 2021. Sixty-five preclinical studies and 15 clinical trials and open-label studies were selected. Results showed a bias toward studies in depression and, to a lesser extent, schizophrenia. In all disorders, the results were positive in reducing psychiatric deficits. Despite the considerable number of beneficial outcomes reported, the small number of trials and the heterogeneity of protocols make it difficult to draw solid conclusions about the real potency of curcumin in psychiatric disorders.M.L.S.-M. was supported by the Ministerio de Ciencia, Innovación y Universidades, Instituto de Salud Carlos III (project number PI17/01766, and grant number BA21/00030), co-financed by the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), "A way to make Europe", CIBER de Salud Mental (project number CB07/09/0031), Delegación del Gobierno para el Plan Nacional sobre Drogas (project number 2017/085); and Fundación Alicia Koplowitz (FAK16/01). Spin-crossover complexes in nanoscale devices: main ingredients of the molecule–substrate interactions
Spin-crossover complexes embedded in nanodevices experience effects that are absent in the bulk that can modulate, quench and even suppress the spin-transition. In this work we explore, by means of state-of-the-art quantum chemistry calculations, different aspects of the integration of SCO molecules on active nanodevices, such as the geometry and energetics of the interaction with the substrate, extension of the charge transfer between the substrate and SCO molecule, impact of the applied external electric field on the spin-transition, and sensitivity of the transport properties on the local conditions of the substrate. We focus on the recently reported encapsulation of Fe(II) spin-crossover complexes in single-walled carbon nanotubes, with new measurements that support the theoretical findings. Even so our results could be useful to many other systems where SCO phenomena take place at the nanoscale, the spin-state switching is probed by an external electric field or current, or the substrate is responsible for the quenching of the SCO mechanism.Ministerio de Ciencia e Innovación de España, Agencia Estatal de Investigación de España y Fondos FEDER.
