Amidst the Wonders of the City : Countenances of Moscow in Barbara Włodarczyk’s Wide Tracks*
The article analyses the various countenances of Moscow which have
been presented by Barbara Włodarczyk in the cycle of television reportages Wide
Tracks. The text focuses on illustrating the specific features of a film report that
allow its author to present the wondrous picture of the Russian capital emerging
from the particular fragments of the discussed reportages. Moreover, as a result
of juxtaposition of the reports from that part of the city, which overwhelms one
with its richness and splendour, with the accounts from these corners of Moscow
in which the continuous struggle for survival takes place, the article examines the
internal contradictions which may be observed within the depicted urban space.
The analysed cycle also exposes the series of political conflicts which undermine
the immaculate image of Moscow as a wondrous city, presented by some of the
characters of the discussed film pictures, and simultaneously, it allows one to
discover some new, less known countenances of the metropolis
Introduction
“Cities are magical places, however their magic is not evenly distributed”— writes Chris Jenks in his general introduction to Urban Culture: Critical Concepts in Literary and Cultural Studies. As much as we agree with
Jenks’s words, we believe that cities, first and foremost, are amazing spaces, and this belief finds reflection in the articles gathered in the present volume. The magic of the cities, together with the meandrous
urban structure and the journey through the urban landscape are the interweaving aspects discussed in this book. The picture of the city that emerges from the articles contained in Urban Amazement is one of an
intricate structure, involving an individual—a traveller, an inhabitant, a writer or a simple observer—into a network of images that is never constant or stable, yet always amazing one with its complexity

Podróż do wnętrza "Imperium" : "Wschód najbliższy" oczami Ryszarda Kapuścińskiego
The essay aims at illustrating the process of an absorption of an individual into the expanse of the external world. Such a process is perhaps most clearly manifest in the context of travel, in which the self becomes estranged in the “alien” space. The article attempts to present some of the “alterations” of the explored space and transformations of the traveler’s Weltanschauung resulting from such an internalization. Ryszard Kapuściński’s The Empire (Imperium) serves as an example of a travel narrative, whose discourse embodies mutual dependency between the internal and the external reality, discernible as soon as the explorer enters an unknown territory. The hereby presented analysis focuses upon somatic and empirical aspects of travel and the role their interaction plays in the revision of rational perceptions in the context of the discourse of the 20th century Polish reportage
Ikona jako relacja wzajemnej miłości między człowiekiem a Bogiem w poglądach Nadii Mazhewich i Jana P. Strumiłowskiego
Icons are a subject of religious cult in Eastern Christianity. They are recognized as valuable works of art and they arouse interest in the faithful of the Catholic Church. The book of Nadii Miazhevich and Jana P. Strumiłowski entitled “Icons of redemption. Word, light, contemplation” is a confirmation of this state of affairs. In the first part of the book the Authors describe language of icons, explain theology of icons, because they know that icons often are incomprehensible. They think that an icon is a relation between a man and God, full of reciprocal love. The second part of the book is the contemplation individual icons which present the history of redemption. They prefer their individual experience of icons giving up their classical interpretations. Their theology of icons is rooted in Byzantine aesthetics whichis a continuation of aesthetics of Greek Fathers Church and Pseudo-Dionizy. “Eidetic” theory of art explain icons. W jej pierwszej części autorzy zapoznają czytelnika z językiem i teologią ikony, by mógł samodzielnie modlić się przed ikoną.
Gotyckie wnętrza : zagadnienia stylu i perspektywy
"Niniejszy artykuł powstał w oparciu o szerokie spektrum tekstów źródłowych. Wydaje się to być jedyne słuszne podejście, skoro emblematyczny gotycki potwór, ten któremu już zawsze przypisywać się będzie imię - Frankenstein, również powstał ze zszytych ze sobą, znalezionych w kostnicy fragmentów ciał [...]"
Small intestinal development in suckling rats after enteral obestatin administration
This study investigated the effect of enteral administration of obestatin on the development of small intestine, as well as oxidative stress markers and trancriptomic profile of gastrointestinal genes. Suckling rats were assigned to 3 groups treated with: C-saline solution; OL-obestatin (125 nmol/kg BW); OH-obestatin (250 nmol/kg BW) administered twice daily, from the 14th to the 21st day of life. Enteral administration of obestatin in both studied doses had no effect neither on the body weight of animals nor the BMI calculated in the day of euthanasia. Compared to the control group (C), treatment with obestatin resulted in significant changes in the histometry of the small intestinal wall as well as intestinal epithelial cell remodeling. The observed changes and their possible implications for intestinal development were dependent on the dosage of peptide. The enteral administration of high dose (OH) of obestatin significantly decreased its expression in the stomach and increased markers of oxidative stress. The gene profile revealed MAPK3 (mitogen-activated protein kinase-3) as the key regulator gene for obestatin action in the gastrointestinal track. In conclusion, we have showed that enteral administration of obestatin influences the gut mucosa remodeling. It is also suggested that the administration of high dose (OH) has inhibitory effect on the intestinal maturation of suckling rats
EDUCATIONAL MODEL FOR CROSS-GENERATIONAL COLLABORATION
The paper's considerations relate to an Erasmus+ project called Generation: Smart. Social Competences Transmedia Bridge To Cultivate A New Culture For Cross-Generational Collaboration. The consortium agreed that due to profound changes in the contemporary Network Societies, people of various generations have to collaborate. However, it is a complex issue due to the divergent life purposes of different aged people. Thus, the project's targeted group, i.e., educators who support adult learners, should be equipped with an educational model that constitutes a solution to this situation. The assumption was that such a model is to include social competences enabling the processes of cross-generational collaboration. Information technology transmedia blend is supposed to bridge the gap between generations. In the paper, we present an overlook of the research that focuses on developing such a framework model. The research features triangulation, which means the analysis of both quantitative and qualitative data. It is structured in three parts. The first one deals with the statistical embracement of the social environment in which the cross-generational collaboration occurs in project partner countries. It is quantitative desk research that utilizes Eurostat information. It is worth pointing out that the research is in statu nascendi. In two consecutive parts, the researchers want to acknowledge the cross-generational collaboration in working life and everyday life. Here, the survey method and the questionnaire interview technique serve as the qualitative research method. Two research groups are to be reached: entrepreneurs and the Third Age Universities' participants. The results of the above two stages will be known after the publication of this paper. Nonetheless, a proto-model recommendation is presented along with educational conclusions on how to use the model. The concept is based on the prior partners' analysis and design work.

Quality of wholemeal wheat bread enriched with green coffee beans
Scientific studies have revealed that bioactive components of coffee play a preventive role against various degenerative diseases. Green coffee, in particular, is characterized by its unique composition and properties. The objective of this work was to investigate the influence of green coffee (Coffea arabica) beans (GCB) addition on the quality and antioxidant properties (AA) of the wholemeal bread. For bread preparation, flour form GCB, and wholemeal wheat flour, type 2000 were used. Wholemeal wheat flour was replaced with GCB flour at 1 to 5% levels. Loaf volume, texture, color and sensory properties of bread were determined. Furthermore, total phenolic content and antioxidant activity were evaluated. The results showed that bread supplementation with GCB had little influence on the bread volume. The highest volume of bread was obtained with 3 and 4% of GCB flour. The texture properties of bread crumb (hardness, elasticity, cohesiveness and chewiness) were slightly changed as a result of the GCB addition. The lightness of bread crumb decreased with the GCB addition (average from 46.3 to 42.6). Besides, the addition of GCB significantly enriched wheat bread with hydrophilic phenolic compounds. The phenolic compounds were highly bioaccessible in vitro. Moreover, the GCB addition enhanced antiradical activity of bread
