Internationalization Of Higher Education: A Reflection On Success And Failures Among Foreign Universities In The United Arab Emirates
Globalization has affected many sectors of the society, including higher education. In the current global economy, higher education institutions face numerous challenges. Factors such as the increasing international competition, achieving higher ranking among global universities, and the pursuit of creating world-class institutions has had a significant impact on higher education institutions. While universities respond to these challenges differently, some higher education institutions are increasingly moving toward the internationalization of their campuses. Internationalization of higher education programs includes branch campuses, cross border collaborative programs, exchange of international students, and establishment of English-medium programs and degrees. Over the past decade, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has been on the receiving line of this phenomena. Internationalization of higher education has greatly affected the UAE as it continues to strive toward becoming a leading education hub in the Middle East. Until recently, the goal of the UAE has been to make higher education accessible to all students within the UAE by providing them with quality learning resources. However, over the past several years, in addition to providing its citizens with quality education, the country is working toward establishing itself as a world-class regional education hub through inviting prominent universities to set up campuses in the country. This paper examines the current trends in internationalization of higher education and analyzes the recent successes and some unanticipated outcomes of this phenomenon in the UAE
Enhancing The Quality Of Teaching And Learning Through Action Research
In every society, a great deal is expected from teachers. They are often expected to react sufficiently and proactively to the ongoing changes in the world and amend their instructional methods and resources to help students reach their academics potential. In todayâs society, teachers are persistently in pursuit of developing ways to reach the new generation of students who are perhaps the most globalized and tech-savvy to date. While academic researchers continue to investigate and analyze current educational issues and trends, the products of these studies have limited practicality to classroom teachers. As a result, teachers are encouraged to collaborate with their colleagues and engage in action research in order to tackle issues specific to their classroom practices and teaching. Some examples of action research in educational settings include educators who wish to undertake research in their classrooms or schools for the purpose of improving teaching, to test educational theory, or to evaluate and implement an educational plan. In this paper, the authors will analyze action research as a method of intellectual inquiry in education settings. Furthermore, they will examine the common methodologies, data collection and analysis in action research and will illustrate the advantages and disadvantages of action research
Computational and Performance Analysis of a Continuous Magnetophoretic Bioseparation Chip with Alternating Magnetic Fields
This paper presents the modeling and optimization of a magnetophoretic bioseparation chip for isolating cells, such as circulating tumor cells from the peripheral blood. The chip consists of a continuous-flow microfluidic platform that contains locally engineered magnetic field gradients. The high-gradient magnetic field produced by the magnets is spatially non-uniform and gives rise to an attractive force on magnetic particles flowing through a fluidic channel. Simulations of the particleâfluid transport and the magnetic force are performed to predict the trajectories and capture lengths of the particles within the fluidic channel. The computational model takes into account key forces, such as the magnetic and fluidic forces and their effect on design parameters for an effective separation. The results show that the microfluidic device has the capability of separating various cells from their native environment. An experimental study is also conducted to verify and validate the simulation results. Finally, to improve the performance of the separation device, a parametric study is performed to investigate the effects of the magnetic bead size, cell size, number of beads per cell, and flow rate on the cell separation performance

A design research towards developing an appropriate domestic architecture in Iran: A case study of Kerman
Until the beginning of the twentieth century domestic architecture and the design of Iranian houses was sympathetic to the social, cultural and religious values of traditional Iranian society. A wave of Westernisation, which started in the early 20th century, greatly impacted on domestic architectural style and design in Iran. Due to a continuous process of disconnection from traditional and vernacular design principles, cons residentsâ needs and values. Domestic architecture spaces are largely designed in an attempt to merely mimic some aspects of Iranian traditional houses while failing to function properly, hence new spaces do not relate to the sociocultural and religious practices and lifestyles of people. In this context, this research focusing on middle-income people, investigates ways in which contemporary housing solutions can cater better to the constantly changing lifestyles of residents while retaining various cultural and symbolic connotations that are embedded in various spaces in a house. The research focuses on Kerman, a historical city in Iran. Adopting a qualitative methodology, this research employs narrative workshops, photo elicitation and in-depth semi-structured interviewing methods for data collection. The research adopted diverse techniques during the interviews, such as drawings, models and films, to capture the rich narratives of participantsâ experiential understanding and perceptions of their houses. These rich and complex narratives were analysed to examine the relationship between various spatial arrangements and residentsâ sociocultural and religious practices. The research findings show the complex relationship between residents, the places in which they live and the organisation of their home and suggests key architectural design propositions that relate to social interaction, inside-outside connectedness, privacy and re-inventing the past, which play a prominent role in developing an appropriate domestic architecture in contemporary Iran
Cadangan reka bentuk dalaman pejabat Primeworks Studios di Sri Pentas TV3, No 3 Persiaran Bandar Utama, Bandar Utama, 47800, Petaling Jaya, Selangor, Bagi Tetuan Primeworks Studios / Nur Atiqah Mohammad Molki
(Re)framing spatiality as a socio-cultural paradigm: examining the Iranian housing culture and processes
With rapid changes in urban living today, peoplesâ behavioural patterns and spatial practices undergo a constant process of adaptation and negotiation. Using âhouseâ as a laboratory and everyday life and spatial relations of residents as a framework of analysis, the paper examines the spatial planning concepts in traditional and contemporary Iranian architecture and the associated socio-cultural practices. Discussions are drawn upon from a pilot study conducted in the city of Kerman, to investigate ways in which contemporary housing solutions can better cater to the continually changing socio-cultural lifestyles of residents. Data collection for the study involved a series of participatory workshops and employed creative visual research methods, participant observation and semi structured interviews to examine the interlacing of everyday socio-spatial relations and changing perception of identity, belonging, socio-cultural and religious values and conflict. The inferences from the study showcases the emerging social and cultural needs and practices of people manifested through the complex relationship between residents, the places in which they live, and its spatial planning and organisation. For a better understanding of this complex relationship, the paper argues the need for resituating spatiality as a socio-cultural paradigm
Enhancement of AES algorithm for IAX protocol
Voice over IP (VoIP) is transforming the telecommunication industry. It offers multiple opportunities such as lower call fees, convergence of voice and data networks, simplification of deployment, and greater integration with multiple applications that offer enhanced multimedia functionality. However, notwithstanding all these technological and economic opportunities, VoIP also brings up new challenges. Among them, security is perhaps the most compelling. Security for Voice over IP (VoIP) can be achieved in different ways. In this project new encryption algorithm has been proposed and implemented on IAX protocol with focusing on the performance for the secure media session. But VoIP has a very special characteristic: it is âtime criticalâ. Time has a tremendous impact on this technologyâs ability to performance, and to transmit meaningful information as well. Consequently, security considerations for VoIP must take additional steps to fulfill specific quality demands. First, the technology requires a very low latency less than 150ms. Second, packet loss cannot exceed the mark of 3%. Third, the technology is highly sensitive to âunquantifiable disrupting factors such as jitterâ. All these factors converge and constitute the most critical of all VoIP security vulnerabilities to ensure the secure stream of VoIP service and provide satisfactory performance
Conjugate natural convection heat transfer in a vertical annulus with internal circumferential fins
A numerical investigation is carried out to study natural convection heat transfer in a vertical annular enclosure with circumferential fins mounted on the inner cylinder. Heat is generated within the inner solid cylinder, while the top, the bottom, and the outer walls are exposed to convection. The results show that, even though the presence of fins does not alter the main features of the flow in the large-scale recirculation zone, it reduces the mean temperature of the inner cylinder by a maximum of 9.6% at low Rayleigh numbers. Also, the number and length of fins have a pronounced effect on the mean temperature. © 1994 Taylor and Francis Group, LLC
