Du rôle du gangsta rap dans la construction d’une représentation : le cas de Compton, « ghetto noir » à majorité hispanique

Le gangsta rap est né à la fin des années 1980 à Compton, dans la banlieue de Los Angeles. Ce type de rap, se démarquant par son extrême violence, connut un succès retentissant auquel Compton fut largement associée. A l’époque très majoritairement noire et en proie à une violence endémique des gangs, la ville devint un métonyme de la violence si bien que pour l’opinion publique son nom symbolise encore aujourd’hui tout ce que les ghettos noirs américains ont de plus violent. Compton a connu des changements démographiques profonds et rapides durant les années 1990 et 2000. Les Hispaniques, totalement absents de l’âge d’or du gangsta rap, sont désormais largement majoritaires dans la ville. Mais bien qu’ils soient également dominateurs dans la rue par le biais des gangs, la perpétuation dans les esprits de la représentation de Compton comme étant une ville contrôlée par les gangs noirs ne satisfait pas les gangs hispaniques. Ces derniers pourraient-ils utiliser le Sureno rap, version latino du gangsta rap créée au début des années 2000 à l’échelle de la Californie du Sud, dans une optique de réappropriation de la représentation du contrôle du territoire ? Quelles sont les conséquences du développement de ce nouveau type de rap notamment sur les tensions raciales entre gangs noirs et hispaniques ? Le Sureno rap générera-t-il une nouvelle image pour la ville de Compton et l’émergence d’une nouvelle visibilité pour les Hispaniques qui y vivent ?

International audienceOwing to its last success, italian detective fiction is today confronted with the question of its renewal. Wavering between a reiteration of narrative ingredients and a minimization of a serial world, it comferms however the increasing importance of the scenery of the plot. The description of a particular territory gives traditionally to the ‘giallo' a specificity which concerns the straight relations that detective stories have with the referent. Representing a common denominator between several works or guaranteeing the taking root of the novel into reality, geographic references are naturally connected to the evolution of the genre. The concept of regional identity is still present in contemporary detective fiction. Nevertheless, it tends sometimes to be dissociated from the criminal dimension of the novel. It coincides from now with a multitude of approaches and goes to relativize the opportunity to give a subjective view of reality. In the same way, it focuses the attention on the literary creation and on the peculiar writer's searches.Fort de ses succès passés, le roman policier italien se trouve aujourd'hui à nouveau confronté à la problématique de son renouvellement. Oscillant entre réitération d'ingrédients narratifs dont le lecteur est coutumier et prise de distance par rapport à un univers sériel, il confirme néanmoins au fil des publications l'importance accordée aux décors de l'intrigue. L'évocation d'un site, d'un territoire donné confère traditionnellement au ‘giallo' une spécificité touchant aux relations étroites que la littérature policière entretient avec le référent. Qu'elles représentent un dénominateur commun entre plusieurs œuvres ou qu'elles garantissent l'ancrage du récit dans la réalité, les références géographiques se trouvent naturellement liées à la question de l'évolution du genre. La notion d'identité régionale est d'ailleurs toujours présente dans l'imaginaire policier contemporain. Cependant, elle tend parfois à se dissocier de la dimension criminelle du roman. Elle coïncide désormais avec une multitude d'approches et concourt ainsi à relativiser l'idée de restitution objective du réel. En parallèle, elle focalise également l'attention sur les processus de création littéraire et sur le parcours singulier de l'écrivain
