His Majesty’s Visit to Antarctica This is photographic journey of His Majesty Seri Paduka Baginda Yang Di–Pertuan Agong Al–Wathiqu Billah Tuanku Mizan Zainal Abidin Ibni Al–Marhum Sultan Mahmud Al–Muktafi Billah Shah, Yang DiPertuan Agong XIII of Malaysia to Antarctica. It tells of His Majesty’s personal reflections and impressions through interviews with Prof. Dato’ Dr. Azizan Abu Samah and Tan Sri Dr. Salleh Mohd. Nor. His Majesty expressed admiration for the scientific research being undertaken by Malaysian scientists and their international counterparts on that cold continent and hoped that more Malaysian scientist will commit to undertake research in Antarctica. During the visit to Scott and Shackelton Huts, His Majesty admired and respected the courage and tenacity of the early explorers to that icy continent before the discovery of modern travel and technologies. His Majesty also expressed his admiration of the scientists who had dedicated their careers to research on the icy continent. This book also given a brief description of the Antarctic continent, the highest, driest and coldest continent in the world. It also tells about the Antarctic Treaty System and Malaysia’s involvement in Antarctic research. It concludes with a brief look at the future now that Malaysia has acceded to the Antarctic Treaty System

Leachate treatment by conventional coagulation, electrocoagulation and two-stage coagulation (conventional coagulation and electrocoagulation)

    Get PDF
Leachate is widely explored and investigated due to highly polluted and difficult to treat. Leachate treatment commonly involves advanced, complicated and high cost activities. Conventional coagulation is widely used in the treatment of wastewater but the sludge production becomes the biggest constraint in this treatment. Electrocoagulation is an alternative to conventional method because it has the same application but produce less sludge and requires simple equipment. Thus, combination of conventional coagulation and electrocoagulation can improve the efficiency of coagulation process in leachate treatment. This article is focusing on the efficiency of single and combined treatment as well as the improvement made by combined treatment. Based on review, the percentage reduction of current density and dose of coagulant was perceptible. As much 50% reduction of current density, duration of treatment, and dose of coagulant able to be obtained by using combined treatment. This combined treatment is able to reduce the cost and at the same time reduce the duration of treatment. Hence, the combined treatment offers an alternative technique for landfill leachate treatment on the removal of pollutants

Technical and Vocational Education (TVE) is facing new challenges in an increasingly competitive global context. The continuing under representation of women in engineering fields at semi-skilled and high-skilled levels is receiving renewed attention. This paper explores women as part of special population in Malaysia who desire to be placed as equal to men in Malaysian context. Policy, leadership, and professional growth are discussed comprehensively to support Malaysian females’ involvement in engineering disciplines, one of Technical and Vocational Education (TVE) programs in Malaysia. This paper also explores issues and challenges facing by Malaysian women in order to be recognized by the sub-ordinates, peers, leaders and society within male-dominated professions and environment

The workforce is a social environment where particular skills are essential in order for workers to perform well, have a competitive edge and succeed in their careers. A soft skill is one of the skills needed in every type of workplace setting. Soft skills include communication skills, collaboration skills, entrepreneurship, and others. Workplace need workers who are competent not only with technical skills but who also have soft skills. There is lack of literature discussion on the perceptions of needed soft skills in the workplace. Therefore, this study aimed to close the gap in the literature concerning the perceptions of instructors and students in the area of soft skills especially in communication skills, collaboration skills, and entrepreneurship at the workplace. This study aims to decrease the divide in soft skills differences among instructors and students in higher learning institutions so that students have the opportunity to excel in their learning process. This study employs quantitative method specifically using survey as an instrument. The findings shows soft skills including communication, collaboration, and entrepreneurship skills are one of the aspects stressed by the students and instructors at higher learning institutions to ensure that graduates will be employable and competent in order to contribute to the nation development

    Get PDF
The development of strategic communication practices through the use of digital platforms is seen to have an impact on the sustainability of strategic communication in the public and private sectors. Strategic communication is a process that determines the stability of an organization’s image, reputation, and position. The digital platform now not only serves as the main communication medium, but also able to function as a platform for dialogue communication between content creators and followers of the platform. Accordingly, the theory used to explain this article is the strategic communication theory (Hallahan et.al, 2007) According to Hallahan, strategic communication is involved in the development, implementation, and assessment of communication. This research aims to understand the impact and the role of strategic communication through digital public relations and its trends in Malaysia. The discussion and fndings in this research are based on a qualitative study that uses an in-depth interview method as a data collection technique and 12 informants among communication practitioners in Malaysia were selected through a purposive sampling technique. The results of the study found that strategic communication through digital public relations is used continuously and has a very important role to ensure that all communication strategies are used to reach the target audience. However, the function and impact of using digital platforms as the main medium of strategic communication still cannot guarantee the sustainability of corporate communication in the future

Exploring Test Concept and Measurement Through Validity and Reliability Process in TVET Research: Guideline for The Novice Researcher

    Get PDF
Validity and reliability are important aspects of research, especially in social science and TVET research. The scales used in research that are important factors to enable good research results. The objective of this paper is to provide insight into important concepts of validity and reliability and also to introduce the major methods to assess validity and reliability as they relate to social science and TVET research. The research design and approach used for this study was a non-experimental research design. The data are using retrospective data and descriptive statistics which were used to run the simulation and analysis. The outcome of this research suggests that Cronbach’s Alpha is the best method to use when checking the reliability in terms of internal consistency. The alpha provides various information that can benefit the researcher, especially in novice research, The result from the simulation shows the importance of conducting validity and reliability test during the research process. It not only provided evidence but also confidence because it reflected consistency and accuracy

Constructing a Shariah Document Screening Prototype Based on Serverless Architecture

    Get PDF
The aim of this research is to discuss the groundwork of building an Islamic Banking Document Screening Prototype based on a serverless architecture framework. This research first forms an algorithm for document matching based Vector Space Model (VCM) and adopts Levenshtein Distance for similarity setting. Product proposals will become a query, and policy documents by the central bank will be a corpus or database for document matching. Both the query and corpus went through preprocessing stage prior to similarity analysis. One set of queries with two sets of corpora is tested in this research to compare similarity values. Finally, a prototype of Shariah Document Screening is built based on a serverless architecture framework and ReactJS interface. This research is the first attempt to introduce a Shariah document screening prototype based on a serverless architecture technology that would be useful to the Islamic financial industry towards achieving a Shariah-compliant business. Given the development of Fintech, the output of this research study would be a complement to the existing Fintech applications, which focus on ensuring the Islamic nature of the businesses

Proposing an intelligent information retrieval (IIR) framework for shariah sources retrieval in Islamic financial industry

    Get PDF
This research proposes a framework of Intelligent Information Retrieval (IIR) for Shariah sources using Support Vector Machine (SVM) for Shariah decision making in Islamic Financial Industry (IFI). In addition, needs towards an automatic indexing platform for Shariah sources is also discussed in this research. Qualitative research methodology is adopted to review past literatures on IIR, data indexing, and SVM, the popular method of algorithms classification for text categorization. This research would be significant to Islamic banking industry in terms of strengthening the compliancy of the industry towards Shariah (Islamic rules) by proposing an IIR to the industry players. It also would add to the literature on Islamic finance especially in the context of financial technology. This research serves as a cross-field research that integrate the field of technology, Islamic finance, legal, and Shariah for an innovation
