    Get PDF
The claim for child’s nafaqah māḍiyah (past income) is often overlooked in the rulings of the Religious Court. This research aims to propose a shifting from the concept of li al-intifā’ (benefit) to li al-tamlīk (ownership) regarding child’s living costs claims in the Religious Court, employing the istihsān (juristic preference) approach. The objective is to ensure a more equitable judgment for the child. This study was conducted as a literature review using a normative juridical approach. The research findings reveal that the legal standpoint, which rejects any claim for child’s nafaqah māḍiyah in the Religious Court based on the argument that child’s living costs is categorized as li al-intifā’, contradicts Islamic legal principles regarding child’s living costs and fails to fulfill the principles of justice, as well as being incongruent with several other legislative provisions related to child protection. Therefore, this article proposes a shifting from the concept of li al-intifā’ to li al-tamlīk in determining child’s nafaqah māḍiyah in the Religious Court

Emergence of multiple seedlings from seed of Garcinia mangostana L. (Clusiaceae).

Polyembryony is the formation of multiple embryos in a single seed. It was reported to occur in Garcinia mangostana through sporophytic adventitious embryony. This paper reports new insight of multiple shoot formation on seed of G. mangostana and a different finding compare to previous studies. A germination study was carried out during the July to August mangosteen fruiting season at University Agriculture Park, Universiti Putra Malaysia. Ten trees were randomly selected and 20 fruits samples were collected. From each fruit, only the biggest seed was used. Seed was disinfected using benomyl and sown on sterilized sand. Flower buds and flowers were also collected. Histological studies were carried out following the TBA series and dyed with Fast Green and Safranin O. For scanning electron microscopy (SEM) observations, samples were fixed in 70% formalin acetic acid and dehydrated using critical point dryer. Samples were mounted on aluminum stubs and finally coated twice with gold for two minutes. The percentage of seed germination was 47% and from that 11% of seeds were with multiple shoots. The morphology of the mangosteen seed was made of hypocotyl with two long strips of vascular bundle. From the histology and SEM, it was shown that shoot and root arises from the end of the vascular bundle. It was also observed that in some instance there were two ovules per locule that further developed into hypocotyls. The hypocotyls carrying their own vascular bundles will unite and enclosed by a single testa and form the “seed”. From each hypocotyl single shoot will emerged. When there are two to three hypocotyls united, two to three shoot will emerged thus displaying multiple shoots per seed. This study concluded that the term polyembryony is not suitable because there was only a single embryo per hypocotyl

Discovering Competency's Elements in the Affective Domain of a Sustainable Co-curricular Syllabus

    Get PDF
Developing a sustainable co-curricular syllabus incorporating competency elements across all three learning domains - cognitive, psychomotor, and affective is challenging. However, this paper focuses on the affective domain, crucial in shaping students' personalities and forming positive values. The study presented here aims to identify the competency elements required for the affective domain in developing the co-curricular Silat syllabus. This study employed a qualitative research method and gathered data through interview sessions with six Silat experts from PESAKA Malaysia. The experts were asked open-ended questions to guide their opinions on the competency elements in the affective domain. The interview sessions were conducted in an organised workshop where the experts were briefed on the purpose of the interview. The information revealed by the experts was recorded, transformed into transcripts, and analysed using the thematic method. The study's findings revealed that the competency elements required for the affective domain in the co-curricular Silat syllabus are good values, civility, athletic abilities, respect, and morality. These elements are vital in the affective learning domains that shape the personality and competency of the students in their co-curricular subjects. The identified competency elements for the affective domain in the co-curricular Silat syllabus will aid in shaping students' personalities, forming positive values, and improving their abilities. It is recommended that further studies be conducted to identify competency elements in the cognitive and psychomotor domains, which will contribute to developing a comprehensive and sustainable co-curricular syllabus

Components of river sustainability through community’s experiences in riverside neighbourhood

    Get PDF
Communities of a riverside neighbourhood are essential in developing rivers into a sustainable environmental feature. However, their lack of awareness towards flooding and river pollution interferes with the river's sustainability. The disconnection with nature impairs sustainability; consequently, the river's value degrades. The awareness can be improved upon by focusing on riverside neighbourhoods. The residents would have some level of awareness due to living sustainably with the river environment. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the living experiences of a riverside neighbourhood's residents from a social perspective. Data were obtained through semi-structured questionnaires given to 121 residents, a focus group discussion and personal interviews. The questionnaires' responses were exported and analysed using Principal Component Analysis in SPSS to identify significant components that were pertinent to the aim. Six components were found and were clarified into three themes: 'river issues', 'river management' and 'river neighbourhood as a shared environment'. It has been found that exposure to river issues resulted in the residents exercising their resources to overcome those issues, and the cooperation between the residents and the stakeholder was essential in maintaining and achieving a sustainable river environment. The residents' connection with their neighbourhood was exemplified through their familiarity and neighbourliness. In conclusion, insight into the residents' experiences would provide a better understanding of river neighbourhoods, which stakeholders could consider in decision-making and planning to ensure the connection with nature is sustained

The social lens as perspective is also still lacking. Thereby, community resilience is adopted as approach looking at river. Hence, this paper explored the river and community resilience studies from social aspect. 129 articles based on online database were gathered, sieved and analysed. It was found that river and community resilience shares fields of fluvial geomorphology, sociology, ecology, urban planning and disaster risk. These fields have impacts in people-place relationship throughout humanity. Therefore, the community is responsible upon river and key to resilience.River is part of community livelihood whereby its resilience protects it. An experimental investigation was carried out to study the specific energy absorbed of Malaysia local wood. Eleven species of wood were chosen which are, Nyatoh (Palaquim Obocatum), Merbau (Intsia Bijuga), Meranti Putih (Shorea Macroptera), Kelapa Sawit (Elais Guineensis), Kempas (Koompasia Malaaensis), Jati (Tectona Grandis), Cengal (Neobalanocarpus Heimii), Meranti Merah (Shorea Collina), Balau Cina (Shorea spp.), Balau Merah (Shorea spp.), and Kapur (Dryobalanops Aromatia). The experiment was performed in quasi-statically compression method using universal testing machine to obtain the material mechanical properties. Specimens were loaded in axial, circumferential and radial compression of local woods, the highest value of energy absorption and kink-band phenomena as well as its effect on energy absorption were determined and discussed in this paper

Prayer (Solat) is an act of worship that is a pillar of Islam. It is an obligation for a Muslim that must be performed. Many verses of the Qur'an and hadith emphasize the importance of educating prayer from an early age. The learning of prayer is learned starting at the pre-school level and usually using the face-to-face method. However, at this time with the diversity of the latest technology and the experience of the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, a learning method that is more innovative and can be implemented independently is very desirable to be implemented. This also gives a new breath to the teaching and learning of prayer. This paper would like to discuss the development of the Adik-Adik Solat M-Learning Application. The ADDIE methodology is used in the application development cycle process. To identify the level of acceptance of the application as well as to know the characteristics of the application that contribute to the improvement of the learning experience, a survey was conducted on a group of school students. The application of learning methods that emphasize visual, audio, and kinesthetic (VAK) approaches was identified to provide an enhancement to the learning experience. This application has great potential to be commercialized and expanded to other fields in the future
