The gothic colonial: A comparison of \u3ci\u3eWuthering heights\u3c/i\u3e and \u3ci\u3eNative son\u3c/i\u3e
This project is a comparison of Emily Bronte\u27s Wuthering Heights (1847) and Richard Wright\u27s Native Son (1940). The discussion begins with how these novels should be considered within the field of postcolonial studies, although they do not fit the traditional definition of its branches of postcolonialism and imperialism. An ideological leaning can be seen in a social hierarchy that casts the Lintons and the Daltons as the elite. The systematic failure of religion, law, and education also ensures the stability of this status quo. The conventions of gothic literature merge with this effort in representing the hybridity or abject natures of Heathcliff and Bigger Thomas; these protagonists are cast as gothic monsters figures that exposes the postcolonial/imperial fantasy of social fears, rather than their true selfhood. Ultimately the novels illustrate the colonization of identity which occurs
Green tea epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) inhibits cytokine-induced nitric oxide and secretory phospholipase A2-IIA in glial cells [abstract]
Glial cells, including astrocytes and microglial cells, are activated in response to injury and neurodegenerative diseases. In culture studies, astrocytes and microglial cells are capable of responding to proinflammatory cytokines and lipopolysacharides (LPS), which cause the induction of inflammatory factors, including inducible nitric oxide synthase (iNOS) and secretory phospholipase A2 (sPLA2). In our recent studies, we provided evidence for specific conditions for induction of iNOS and sPLA2-IIA in immortalized glial cell lines, including the murine BV-2 microglial cells, rat HAPI microglial cells, and rat DITNC astrocytes
Weakly Primary Submodules over Noncommutative Rings
Let R be an associative ring with nonzero identity and let M be a unitary left R−module. In this paper, we introduce the concept of weakly primary submodules of M and give some basic properties of these classes of submodules. Several results on weakly primary submodules over noncommutative rings are proved. We show that N is a weakly primary submodule of a left R−module M iff for every ideal P of R and for every submodule D of M with 0 ̸= P D ⊆ N, either P ⊆ √ (N : M) or D ⊆ N. We also introduce the definitions of weakly primary compactly packed and maximal compactly packed modules. Then we study the relation between these modules and investigate the condition on a left R−module M that makes the concepts of primary compactly packed modules and weakly primary compactly packed modules equivalent. We also introduce the concept of weakly primary radical submodules and show that every Bezout module that satisfies the ascending chain condition on weakly primary radical submodules is weakly primary compactly packed module
English Language Teachers' Beliefs and Practices Regarding the Teaching of Speaking
This thesis presents the findings of a qualitative multiple-case study research exploring five Saudi English language teachers’ beliefs and practices regarding their teaching of speaking. The teachers were teaching general English to preparatory year students in a Saudi University. The data was collected through semi-structured interviews and classroom observation. The interviews focused on teachers’ beliefs while the observation focused on how teachers approached the teaching of speaking. Analysis of the findings indicated that teaching speaking was course-book based, teacher-centred and accuracy-oriented. There was no or little focus on fluency in the observed classes; teaching speaking was focused on developing students’ speaking accuracy: i.e., grammar and vocabulary. Teachers’ beliefs and practices did not reflect contemporary views on teaching speaking and they lacked theoretical bases. Some beliefs were reflected in teachers’ teaching of speaking while other beliefs were not observed in the speaking classrooms. The study indicated a number of factors which influenced the relationship between beliefs and practices: e.g., nature of beliefs, course books and students’ level
Employing Historical Dimension in Jordanian poetry: Haider Mahmoud as an Example
Heritage penetrates life sap to provide it with the workforce for advancement, renewal, confrontation and defiance. The aspects of heritage and its multiple sources are manifold, including popular, mythological, historical, and religious data. This includes doctrines, ideas, behavioral methods, general knowledge and experiences attributed to the past time.
Our Arab heritage is distinguished by its wealth and abundance of bright aspects, and this is perhaps the reason for the widespread use of heritage in all its forms in poetry. Poetry is one of the creative literary arts that reflect the employment of historical heritage with all its data, and highlight the close relationship between literature and history based on complementation, which makes them linked in an inseparable strong way. Attention to poetry requires a high degree of imagination, description, and creativity that appear clearly through the employment of historical aspect through. The poet introduces history to the youth, by focusing on employing historical figures on one side, and employing historical events on the other to renew the memory of the nation and overlook the cultural and intellectual aspects rooted in literary heritage.
Hence the idea of the study entitled Employing Historical Dimension in Jordanian Poetry: Haider Mahmoud as an Example as an analytical study, focusing on explaining the importance of employing historical dimension in the work of the poet Haider Mahmoud, clarifying the artistic aesthetics in the Jordanian poem, and upgrading it by employing historical heritag
The Role of Language Centers in Jordanian Universities in Spreading a Culture of Cultural Diversity among their Students
The study aimed to identify the role of language centers in Jordanian universities in spreading a culture of cultural diversity among their students. To achieve the objectives of the study, the survey approach was used to suit the nature of this study, where a questionnaire was designed and distributed to a 400-student sample from Jordanian universities. The results of the study showed that the role of language centers in Jordanian universities in spreading the culture of cultural diversity among their students from the viewpoint of the study sample was at a low level in general, where the field of cultural diversity principles among the faculty members and the field of cultural diversity principles in the field of academic course books ranked first. As for the principles of cultural diversity in the field of university activities, they ranked last. The results showed that there were no statistically significant differences in the study sample estimations of the role of language centers in Jordanian universities in spreading a culture of cultural diversity among their students due to gender and nationality variables. Keywords: Language centers, Jordan, diversity, university students. DOI: 10.7176/JEP/11-6-06 Publication date: February 29th 202
GENERATIVE ADVERSARIAL NETWORKS FOR ANTERIOR CRUCIATE LIGAMENT INJURY DETECTION
This research explores the application of Generative Adversarial Networks (GANs) for detecting and classifying Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) injuries using MRI images. The study utilized a dataset of 917 MRI images, each labeled as healthy, partially injured, or completely ruptured, to train the model. The performance of the GAN model was evaluated using a confusion matrix and a classification report, yielding an overall accuracy of 92%. The model demonstrated high proficiency in identifying healthy ACLs and partially injured ACLs but encountered some challenges in accurately identifying completely ruptured ACLs. Despite this, the results suggest that machine learning techniques, particularly GANs, have significant potential for enhancing the accuracy and efficiency of ACL injury detection. The ability of the model to distinguish between different degrees of injury could potentially aid in treatment planning. However, the study also underscores the need for further refinement of the model, particularly in improving its sensitivity in detecting severe ACL injuries. This research highlights the potential of machine learning in medical imaging and provides a solid foundation for future research in ACL injury detection and classification
Total Quality Management in Higher Education
This research paper aims at highlighting the Total Quality Management (TQM) elements at university, through environmental scanning the researcher found many important factors in University, where quality of education Is the main purpose of a university education when providing service for students. A lot of researcher have been studied (TQM) around the world by educational institution , that’s indicators how is very important quality assurance in education sector based on revolution and hyper competition between institution specially university. accordingly this paper focus on TQM as a approach used in organization to enhance managerial method pulse increase the performance at university output. so the main objectives in this paper to concentration on principle of TQM. Also, it studies the core concept of principle and highlight on important part that enhances the quality in university plus that what the distinguish from others papersto achieve academic excellence. Elective induction for pregnancies at or beyond 41 weeks of gestation and its impact on stillbirths: a systematic review with meta-analysis

Abstract

Background

An important determinant of pregnancy outcome is the timely onset of labor and birth. Prolonged gestation complicates 5% to 10% of all pregnancies and confers increased risk to both the fetus and mother. The purpose of this review was to study the possible impact of induction of labour (IOL) for post-term pregnancies compared to expectant management on stillbirths.

Methods

A systematic review of the published studies including randomized controlled trials, quasi- randomized trials and observational studies was conducted. Search engines used were PubMed, the Cochrane Library, the WHO regional databases and hand search of bibliographies. A standardized data abstraction sheet was used. Recommendations have been made for input to the Lives Saved Tool (LiST) model by following standardized guidelines developed by the Child Health Epidemiology Reference Group (CHERG).

Results

A total of 25 studies were included in this review. Meta-analysis of 14 randomized controlled trials (RCTs) suggests that a policy of elective IOL for pregnancies at or beyond 41 weeks is associated with significantly fewer perinatal deaths (RR=0.31; 95% CI: 0.11-0.88) compared to expectant management, but no significant difference in the incidence of stillbirth (RR= 0.29; 95% CI: 0.06-1.38) was noted. The included trials evaluating this intervention were small, with few events in the intervention and control group. There was significant decrease in incidence of neonatal morbidity from meconium aspiration (RR = 0.43, 95% CI 0.23-0.79) and macrosomia (RR = 0.72; 95% CI: 0.54 – 0.98). Using CHERG rules, we recommended 69% reduction as a point estimate for the risk of stillbirth with IOL for prolonged gestation (> 41 weeks).

Conclusions

Induction of labour appears to be an effective way of reducing perinatal morbidity and mortality associated with post-term pregnancies. It should be offered to women with post-term pregnancies after discussing the benefits and risks of induction of labor.</p
