Radiation spectra of laser-driven quantum relativistic electrons
A procedure to calculate the radiation spectrum emitted by an arbitrarily
prepared Dirac wave packet is developed. It is based on the Dirac charge
current and classical electrodynamic theory. Apart from giving absolute
intensity values, it is exact in terms of relativistic retardation effects and
angular dependence. We employ a laser driven free electron to demonstrate the
advantages of our method as compared to traditional ones that merely rely on
the Fourier transform of the dipole operator's expectation value. Classical
reference calculations confirm the results obtained for the low-frequency part
of the spectrum, especially in terms of the observed red-shifts, which clearly
deviate from non-relativistic calculations. In the high-frequency part of the
spectrum, we note appreciable deviations to the purely classical calculations
which may be linked to quantum averaging effects.Comment: 30 pages, 7 figure
New Developments in Tagging Pre-modern Orthodox Slavic Texts
Pre-modern Orthodox Slavic texts pose certain difficulties when it comes to part-of-speech and full morphological tagging. Orthographic and morphological heterogeneity makes it hard to apply resources that rely on normalized data, which is why previous attempts to train part-of-speech (POS) taggers for pre-modern Slavic often apply normalization routines. In the current paper, we further explore the normalization path; at the same time, we use the statistical CRF-tagger MarMoT and a newly developed neural network tagger that cope better with variation than previously applied rule-based or statistical taggers. Furthermore, we conduct transfer experiments to apply Modern Russian resources to pre-modern data. Our experiments show that while transfer experiments could not improve tagging performance significantly, state-of-the-art taggers reach between 90% and more than 95% tagging accuracy and thus approach the tagging accuracy of modern standard languages with rich morphology. Remarkably, these results are achieved without the need for normalization, which makes our research of practical relevance to the Paleoslavistic community.Peer reviewe

Pair production in laser fields oscillating in space and time
The production of electron-positron pairs from vacuum by counterpropagating
laser beams of linear polarization is calculated. In contrast to the usual
approximate approach, the spatial dependence and magnetic component of the
laser field are taken into account. We show that the latter strongly affects
the creation process at high laser frequency: the production probability is
reduced, the kinematics is fundamentally modified, the resonant
Rabi-oscillation pattern is distorted and the resonance positions are shifted,
multiplied and split.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure
Quantum signatures in laser-driven relativistic multiple-scattering
The dynamics of an electronic Dirac wave packet evolving under the influence
of an ultra-intense laser pulse and an ensemble of highly charged ions is
investigated numerically. Special emphasis is placed on the evolution of
quantum signatures from single to multiple scattering events. We quantify the
occurrence of quantum relativistic interference fringes in various situations
and stress their significance in multiple-particle systems, even in the
relativistic range of laser-matter interaction.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, LaTeX, revtex
A stability analysis of a real space split operator method for the Klein-Gordon equation
We carry out a stability analysis for the real space split operator method
for the propagation of the time-dependent Klein-Gordon equation that has been
proposed Ruf et al. [M. Ruf, H. Bauke, C.H. Keitel, A real space split operator
method for the Klein-Gordon equation, Journal of Computational Physics 228 (24)
(2009) 9092-9106, doi:10.1016/j.jcp.2009.09.012]. The region of algebraic
stability is determined analytically by means of a von-Neumann stability
analysis for systems with homogeneous scalar and vector potentials. Algebraic
stability implies convergence ofthe real space split operator method for smooth
absolutely integrable initial conditions. In the limit of small spatial grid
spacings in each of the spatial dimensions and small temporal steps
, the stability condition becomes for second order
finite differences and for fourth order finite
differences, respectively, with denoting the speed of light. Furthermore,
we demonstrate numerically that the stability region for systems with
inhomogeneous potentials coincides almost with the region of algebraic
stability for homogeneous potentials
