Quantitative estimation of renal blood flow by power Doppler ultrasonography in renovascular hypertensive dogs.BackgroundWe estimated the value of power Doppler (PD) imaging analysis for the quantitative assessment of renal cortical blood flow (RCBF) in chronic two-kidney, one-clip (2K-1C) hypertensive dogs.MethodsTo evaluate the correlation between RCBF and PD signals, RCBF and the mean pixel intensity (MPI) of PD signals were simultaneously obtained at same region in renal cortex under progressive constriction of left main renal artery in five mongrel dogs. RCBF was measured by electrolytic hydrogen gas clearance method, and PD images were transferred to computer and analyzed by the image-analysis software Openlab®. To assess the value of quantitative PD imaging analysis on RCBF in renovascular hypertension, in six mongrel dogs with chronic 2K-1C hypertension, PD images in both of clipped kidneys (CK) and non-clipped kidneys (NK) were obtained and analyzed before and 60 minutes after the intravenous infusion of captopril or sodium nitroprusside at 10-minute intervals.ResultsThere was a linear correlation between RCBF and MPI (r = 0.878, P < 0.0001). MPI in both CK and NK significantly increased after the infusion of captopril, while no significant change was observed in both CK and NK after the infusion of sodium nitroprusside, despite similar reduction of mean arterial blood pressure.ConclusionOur data suggest that the acute inhibition of angiotensin-converting enzyme increased RCBF in both CK and NK of chronic 2K-1C dogs. The quantitative analysis of PD flow signals in kidney is noninvasive and a useful method to evaluate regional changes of renal tissue blood flow in various renal diseases

Synthesis and Analysis of Time-optimal Current Trajectory Based on Final-state Control for IPMSM

Abstract-This paper investigates time-optimal current trajectory of an interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) and achievable performance limitations. The analysis with linearized IPMSM model shows that time-optimal trajectory under voltage limit has q-axis current undershoot, d-axis current overshoot, and torque overshoot/undershoot. These achievable performance limitations are verified with final-state control which desribes current response under the voltage limit with linear matrix inequalities

Functional Space Consisted by Continuous Functions on Topological Space

In this article, using the Mizar system [1], [2], first we give a definition of a functional space which is constructed from all continuous functions defined on a compact topological space [5]. We prove that this functional space is a Banach space [3]. Next, we give a definition of a function space which is constructed from all continuous functions with bounded support. We also prove that this function space is a normed space.Hiroshi Yamazaki - Nagano Prefectural Institute of Technology, Nagano, JapanKeiichi Miyajima - Ibaraki University, Ibaraki, JapanYasunari Shidama - Karuizawa Hotch 244-1, Nagano, JapanGrzegorz Bancerek, Czesław Bylinski, Adam Grabowski, Artur Korniłowicz, Roman Matuszewski, Adam Naumowicz, Karol Pak, and Josef Urban. Exciton localization and decomposition dynamics in cuprous halide nanocrystals

We report temporal changes of luminescence and absorption (differential transmission) of excitons in nanometer-size semiconductor crystals (nanocrystals) of CuCl embedded in NaCl or in glass, and CuBr nano- crystals embedded in glass. In CuCl nanocrystals in NaCl, an exciton relaxes nonradiatively to some localized state. In CuCl and CuBr nanocrystals in glass, the temporal changes of the differential transmission have a longer decay component in addition to the fast decay component which agrees with the luminescence decay. This result suggests exciton decomposition and the existence of an electron or a hole remainder in the nano- crystals. The decay time of the longer decay component increases by the accumulation of photoexcitation. This phenomenon indicates persistent trapping of carriers in the glass matrix, which is concerned with persistent spectral hole burning in nanocrystals

Electric spectroscopy of vortex states and dynamics in magnetic disks

Spin-polarized radio frequency (RF) currents and RF-Oersted fields resonantly excite a magnetic vortex core confined in a micron-scale soft magnetic disk. In this study, we measured the rectifying voltage spectra caused by the anisotropic magnetoresistance oscillation due to the gyration of the vortex with different polarity and chirality. The measured spectra are presented such that we can determine the vortex properties and strength of the spin torques and Oersted field accurately and directly through analytical calculation.Comment: 39 pages,1 table, 10 figure

Effect of a Large Dose of Di (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP) on Hepatic Peroxisome in Cynomolgus Monkeys (Macaca Fascicularis)

To elucidate the effect of a large dose of di (2-ethylhexyl) phthalate (DEHP), a plasticizer and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor-α (PPARα) agonist, on hepatic peroxisomes, we orally administered 1,000 mg/kg/day, once daily, to 3 male and 4 female cynomolgus monkeys for 28 days consecutively. Light-microscopic and electron microscopic examinations of the liver were carried out in conjunction with measurement of the hepatic fatty acid β-oxidation system (FAOS), carnitine acetyltransferase (CAT) and carnitine palmitoyltransferase (CPT) activities, which are peroxisomal and/or mitochondrial enzyme activities. Electron microscopically, enlargement of the mitochondria was observed with lamellar orientation of the cristae along the major axis. Although the number of peroxisomes showed a tendency to increase when compared with those in a biopsied specimen before treatment, no abnormality in morphology was observed. A slight increase in CPT activity was noted at termination. No changes were noted in hepatic FAOS or CAT activity. In conclusion, although repeated oral treatment of cynomolgus monkeys with a large dose of DEHP induced a subtle increase in the numbers of peroxisomes with slight enlargements of the mitochondria, this low-sensitivity response to peroxisome proliferators in cynomolgus monkeys was considered to be closer to the response in humans than that in rodents

In this article, we define the Riemann integral on functions R into n-dimensional real normed space and prove the linearity of this operator. As a result, the Riemann integration can be applied to the wider range.
