Vacuum structure and effective potential at finite temperature: a variational approach
We compute the effective potential for theory with a squeezed
coherent state type of construct for the ground state. The method essentially
consists in optimising the basis at zero and finite temperatures. The gap
equation becomes identical to resumming the infinite series of daisy and super
daisy graphs while the effective potential includes multiloop effects and
agrees with that obtained through composite operator formalism at finite
temperature.Comment: 15 pages, Revtex, No figures, to appear in Jou. of Phys.G(Nucl. and

Spin-Charge Decoupling and Orthofermi Quantum Statistics
Currently Gutzwiller projection technique and nested Bethe ansatz are two
main methods used to handle electronic systems in the infinity limit. We
demonstrate that these two approaches describe two distinct physical systems.
In the nested Bethe ansatz solutions, there is a decoupling between the spin
and charge degrees of freedom. Such a decoupling is absent in the Gutzwiller
projection technique. Whereas in the Gutzwiller approach, the usual
antisymmetry of space and spin coordinates is maintained, we show that the
Bethe ansatz wave function is compatible with a new form of quantum statistics,
viz., orthofermi statistics. In this statistics, the wave function is
antisymmetric in spatial coordinates alone. This feature ultimately leads to
spin-charge decoupling.Comment: 12 pages, LaTex Journal_ref: A slightly abridged version of this

An Assessment of Knowledge and Practices Regarding Tuberculosis in the Context of RNTCP Among Non Allopathic Practitioners in Gwalior District
Introduction: India has the highest TB burden accounting for one-fifth of the global incidence with an estimated 1.98 million cases. Non- allopathic practitioners are the major service providers especially in rural and peri-urban areas, treating not just patients of diarrhea, respiratory infections and abdominal Pain but also of tuberculosis. Objectives: To assess the knowledge of sign and symptoms of TB and its management as per the RNTCP guidelines and to assess the practicing pattern regarding tuberculosis. Material & Methods: The present was carried out among the registered non allopathic practitioners providing their services in Gwalior District during the study period. A total of 150 non allopathic practitioners of various methods from both government and private sectors were interviewed using a pre-designed, pre-tested semi-structured questionnaire. The information was collected on the General profile of the participant, knowledge about signs and symptoms of TB and its management, practices commonly adopted in the management and their views on involvement of non allopathic practitioners in RNTCP programme. Result: The average score of government practitioners was 7.3 compared to 4.6 by private practitioners. There was a statistically significant difference between the two group on issue related to the management of TB patients as per the RNTCP guidelines. Government practitioners relied mostly on sputum examination for diagnosis and follow up compared to private practitioners who chose other modalities like X-ray, blood examination for this work. Conclusion: There is a gap in knowledge and practices of practitioners of both the sectors. Some serious efforts were required to upgrade the knowledge of non allopathic practitioners if the government is serious about controlling tuberculosis in India
Photoinduced magnetism in the ferromagnetic semiconductors
We study the enhancement of the magnetic transition temperature due to
incident light in ferromagnetic semiconductors such as EuS. The photoexcited
carriers mediate an extra ferromagnetic interaction due to the coupling with
the localized magnetic moments. The Hamiltonian consists of a Heisenberg model
for the localized moments and an interaction term between the photoexcited
carriers and the localized moments. The model predicts a small enhancement of
the transition temperature in semi-quantitative agreement with the experiments.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure
Vector meson masses in hot nuclear matter : the effect of quantum corrections
The medium modification of vector meson masses is studied taking into account
the quantum correction effects for the hot and dense hadronic matter. In the
framework of Quantum Hadrodynamics, the quantum corrections from the baryon and
scalar meson sectors were earlier computed using a nonperturbative variational
approach through a realignment of the ground state with baryon-antibaryon and
sigma meson condensates. The effect of such corrections was seen to lead to a
softer equation of state giving rise to a lower value for the compressibility
and, an increase in the in-medium baryonic masses than would be reached when
such quantum effects are not taken into account. These quantum corrections
arising from the scalar meson sector result in an increase in the masses of the
vector mesons in the hot and dense matter, as compared to the situation when
only the vacuum polarisation effects from the baryonic sector are taken into
account.Comment: 13 pages revtex file, 6 figure
Effect of geometrical size of the particles in a hot and dense hadron gas
Incorporation of the finite size of baryons into the equation of state (EOS)
of a hot and dense hadron gas (HG) in a thermodynamically consistent manner has
been a much studied problem. We first review its current status. Various models
have been proposed in order to account for the repulsive force generated by the
hard-core geometrical size of the baryons resulting in an excluded volume
effect in the EOS. We examine the criterion of the thermodynamical consistency
of these models and summarize their shortcomings. In order to remove the
shortcomings, we propose a new model which incorporates the excluded volume
effect in a thermodynamically consistent manner. We find that the new model
works even for the cases of extremely large temperatures and densities where
most of other approaches fail. Furthermore, the new expressions for
thermodynamical variables resemble in form with those obtained from
thermodynamically inconsistent models and thus a useful correction factor has
been suggested here which converts inconsistent expressions into
thermodynamically consistent ones. Finally we compare the predictions of new
model with those obtained from various old models.Comment: 19 pages, 9 figures, accepted for publication in Phys. Rev.
A Generative Model For Zero Shot Learning Using Conditional Variational Autoencoders
Zero shot learning in Image Classification refers to the setting where images
from some novel classes are absent in the training data but other information
such as natural language descriptions or attribute vectors of the classes are
available. This setting is important in the real world since one may not be
able to obtain images of all the possible classes at training. While previous
approaches have tried to model the relationship between the class attribute
space and the image space via some kind of a transfer function in order to
model the image space correspondingly to an unseen class, we take a different
approach and try to generate the samples from the given attributes, using a
conditional variational autoencoder, and use the generated samples for
classification of the unseen classes. By extensive testing on four benchmark
datasets, we show that our model outperforms the state of the art, particularly
in the more realistic generalized setting, where the training classes can also
appear at the test time along with the novel classes
Energy Efficient Design of Wireless Ad Hoc Networks
The concept of wireless is not new. When the packet switching technology, the fabric of the Internet was introduced by the Department of Defense, the ARPANET ,it understood the potential of packet switched radio technology to interconnect mobile nodes .The DARPA around early 70’s helped establish the base of ad hoc wireless networking. This is a technology that enables untethered wireless networking environments where there is no wired or cellular infrastructure. Wireless Ad hoc Networks since then is a fast developing research area with a vast spectrum of applications. Wireless sensor network systems enable the reliable monitoring of a variety of environments for both civil and military applications. The Energy efficiency continues to be a key factor in limiting the deployability of ad-hoc networks. Deploying an energy efficient system exploiting the maximum lifetime of the network has remained a great challenge since years. The time period from the instant at which the network starts functioning to the time instant at which the first network node runs out of energy, i.e. the network lifetime is largely dependent on the system energy efficiency. This thesis looks at energy efficient protocols, which can have significant impact on the lifetime of these networks. The cluster heads get drain out maximum energy in the wireless ad hoc networks. The proposed algorithm deals with minimizing the rate of dissipation of energy of cluster heads. The algorithm LEAD deals with energy efficient round scheduling of cluster head followed by allocation of nodes to the cluster heads maximizing network lifetime using ANDA
Structure of the Vacuum in Nuclear Matter - A Nonperturbative Approach
We compute the vacuum polarisation correction to the binding energy of
nuclear matter in the Walecka model using a nonperturbative approach. We first
study such a contribution as arising from a ground state structure with
baryon-antibaryon condensates. This yields the same results as obtained through
the relativistic Hartree approximation of summing tadpole diagrams for the
baryon propagator. Such a vacuum is then generalized to include quantum effects
from meson fields through scalar-meson condensates. The method is applied to
study properties of nuclear matter and leads to a softer equation of state
giving a lower value of the incompressibility than would be reached without
quantum effects. The density dependent effective sigma mass is also calculated
including such vacuum polarisation effects.Comment: 26 pages including 5 eps files, uses revtex style; PACS number:
