Characteristics and Genesis of Some Soils of the Upper Terraces of Lake Bonneville

The genesis and characteristics of the Timpanogos, Hillfield, and Sterling soils and an unnamed Mollisol (soil formed on north- slope) on the east part of Cache Valley were studied in order to determine (1) why the soil morphology is not chronologically related to the geomorphic surface and (2} why different soils have developed on these surfaces , even though the soil forming factors appear similar. The particle size distribution of the upper horizons of the Timpanogos, Hillfield , and unnamed Mollisol pedons are relatively similar . These soils developed from stratified deposits with granulimetric composition in which 75 to 90 percent of the grains are less than 100 micrometers in diameter , characteristic of wind-blown material. Development of an incipient argillic horizon in Timpanogos pedon indicates this soil did not develop under the moist conditions of the Pleistocene and the geomorphic surface was not stable after deposition. The material was reworked by the wind. The Sterling soil formed on an alluvial fan which was deposited during Holocene time and its development is chronologically related to geomorphic surface. The development of an incipient argillic horizon in the Timpanogos soil and a weak cambic horizon in the Hillfield soil and the unnamed Mollisol is due to topographic condition of the landscapes. The thick and dark mollie epipedon in the unnamed Mollisol (north-slope) compared to the Hillfield soil (south- s lope) which has an epipedon with color light to be mollie and a less thick A horizon is related to effect of microclimate

Delayed post-operative contralateral epidural hematoma in a patient with right-sided acute subdural hematoma: a case report

Head injury is one of the leading causes of death and disability in traumatic accidents. Post-operative contralateral epidural hematomas after surgery for acute subdural hematoma seem to be rare. In this case, expansion and spontaneous resolution of a fractural epidural hematoma contralateral to the side of acute subdural hematoma is presented. The importance of immediate post-operative computed tomography is also highlighted to detect delayed traumatic mass lesions

Quantum Random Number Generator Based on LED

Quantum Random Number Generators Produce random numbers based on the intrinsic probability nature of quantum mechanics, making them true random number generators. In this paper, we design and fabricate an embedded QRNG that produces random numbers based on fluctuations of spontaneous emission in a LED. Additionally, a new perspective on the randomness of the recombination process in a LED is introduced that is consistent with experimental results. To achieve a robust and reliable QRNGm we compare some usual post processing methods and select the best one for a real time device. This device could pass NIST tests, the output speed is 1 Mbit per S and the randomness of the output data is invariant in time and different temperatures

Jejunal Dieulafoy’s Lesion as a Rare Cause of Massive Gastrointestinal Bleeding; a Case Report and Literature Review

Jejunal Dieulafoy's lesion is difficult to diagnose due to its rarity, intermittent hemorrhage, and lesion site, which is largely inaccessible to conventional endoscopes. A 39-year-old man, who had no underlying disease, presented to the emergency department (ED) with weakness, dizziness, and dry cough with a history of several rectal bleeding episodes in the last few years. Endoscopy was normal, and the colon was full of clots on colonoscopy, and no gross pathology was found. On computed tomography (CT) angiography, a hyperdensity was seen in the middle of the jejunum, possibly suggesting contrast extravasation. Due to decreased hemoglobin of the patient, and hemodynamic instability, the patient became a candidate for surgery. A palpable lesion in the Jejunum was touched that opened longitudinally, which revealed active arterial bleeding from the nipple-like lesion. This segment was resected, and an anastomosis was performed. Histopathological examination of the small intestine confirmed a Dieulafoy’s lesion. It seems that, when upper endoscopy and colonoscopy fail to identify the cause of gastrointestinal bleeding, a Dieulafoy’s lesion should be included in the differential diagnoses

Effects of combination therapy with Bunium persicum and Foeniculum vulgare extracts on patients with polycystic ovary syndrome

Background: Considering the side effects of common drugs used to treat polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS), researchers have turned their attention to natural compounds, including medicinal plants. Foeniculum vulgare has estrogenic properties and has been traditionally used to treat gynecological disorders. Bunium persicum has medical aspects that have not yet been evaluated, so the aim of this study was to evaluate the effects of combination therapy with these extracts on clinical symptoms of women with PCOS. Materials and Methods: In this double-blind clinical trial study, 70 women with PCOS referred to infertility clinics, were selected and randomly divided into two groups. The intervention group received B. persicum capsule 60 mg plus F. vulgare capsule 25 mg) twice daily for 4 months and the control groups received routine intervention. Before and after the intervention, levels of luteinizing hormone (LH), follicle-stimulating hormone, progesterone, prolactin, testosterone and dehydroepiandrosterone sulfate (DHEAS) levels, hirsutism score, and menstrual pattern were recorded and endometrial thickness and follicle count were determined by ultrasound. Data were analyzed by the SPSS21 software. Results: Treatment with B. persicum and F. vulgare extracts significantly decreased LH and DHEAS levels, hirsutism score, and significantly increased menstrual duration compared to the control group. Before the intervention, 5.7% of the intervention and control groups had the normal menstrual pattern, while after the intervention 31.4% of the intervention group and 25.7% of the control group had the normal pattern. Conclusion: Regarding the effect of these extracts combination and because they have no side-effects, which is a great advantage over chemical drugs, using of these plants recommend

Towards external coupling of BES and HAM envelope programs for whole building HAM simulation

This paper presents preliminary results of on-going research on the integration of building energy simulation (BES) and building envelope heat, air and moisture transfer (HAM) programs. The paper contrasts the capabilities of two BES and HAM programs, and presents the theory and preliminary results of one-way coupling between them
