Considerazioni su alcuni sigilli reali ittiti
Some new readings and integrations in royal Hittite seals of BoÄŸazköy are suggested. It is likely that queen *Malnigal did not exist. Malni would rather be a term of augury of the Luvian-Hittite vocabulary. The mark of seal SBo I 36 = HGB I 219 must be attributed to Å uppiluliuma. The name of the queen which goes with Tudḫaliya III monogram is not Å atatuḫepa but Taduḫepa in seal Ma§at 75.10. In the hieroglyphic inscription her name is Taduḫepa and this is confirmed by the cuneiform traces in the circular crown.

The spread of cuneiform writing in the Ancient Near East, its endurance along three millenniums, and the circumstances of various discoveries offer some examples of adventures. 1) The first example among the publications of the author concerns the earliest document of Ḫattušili I, the founder of the Hittite Empire in the 17th century BC. A small clay tablet found somewhere in the high valley of the Tigris river, contains a letter written during the 6th campaign of the Great King and is until now the only known original document of this King, all other being late archive copies. 2) A bronze sword, found in the Hittite Capital Ḫattuša, offers a combination of two important documents, an archaeological one and an epigraphical one. An Akkadian inscription by the Hittite King Tudhaliya II incised on it celebrates a victorious campaign against the land of Aššuwa in West Anatolia. It is quite certain that it is the oldest historical quotation of both Greek Ἀσία and Roman period provincia Asia. 3) In the 9th century BC in East Anatolia, on the eastern shores of lake Van, the Kingdom of Urartu was established. The oldest written documents are in Assyrian cuneiform, the writing system being imported from the contemporary Assyrian Empire. Urartian-Assyrian bilingual texts were composed on behalf of Urartian kings in some occasions at the end of the 9th and in the late 8th century BC
