Interleaved Training for Massive MIMO Downlink via Exploring Spatial Correlation

Interleaved training has been studied for single-user and multi-user massive MIMO downlink with either fully-digital or hybrid beamforming. However, the impact of channel correlation on its average training overhead is rarely addressed. In this paper, we explore the channel correlation to improve the interleaved training for single-user massive MIMO downlink. For the beam-domain interleaved training, we propose a modified scheme by optimizing the beam training codebook. The basic antenna-domain interleaved training is also improved by dynamically adjusting the training order of the base station (BS) antennas during the training process based on the values of the already trained channels. Exact and simplified approximate expressions of the average training length are derived in closed-form for the basic and modified beam-domain schemes and the basic antenna-domain scheme in correlated channels. For the modified antenna-domain scheme, a deep neural network (DNN)-based approximation is provided for fast performance evaluation. Analytical results and simulations verify the accuracy of our derived training length expressions and explicitly reveal the impact of system parameters on the average training length. In addition, the modified beam/antenna-domain schemes are shown to have a shorter average training length compared to the basic schemes.Comment: 14 pages (double column), 8 figures. Rechargeable Na-CO2 batteries are promising energy-storage devices due to their high energy density, environmental friendliness, and cost effectiveness. However, the insulating nature and irreversibility of the Na2CO3 discharge product cause large polarization and poor cyclicity. Here, we report a reversible quasi-solid-state Na-CO2 battery that is constructed by the synergistic action of a Co-encapsulated N-doped carbon framework catalyst and gel electrolyte to ensure the formation of a highly reversible Na2C2O4 discharge product. Experiments and density functional theory calculations indicate that the electron-agglomeration effect of Co nanoparticles enhances CO2 adsorption and lowers energy barrier, as well as promotes Na2C2O4 generation. A gel electrolyte containing an imidazole organic cation is used to inhibit the decomposition of the thermodynamically unstable Na2C2O4. The fabricated Na-CO2 battery exhibits a high discharge capacity of 3,094 mAh g^-1, a high-rate performance of 1,777 mAh g^-1 at a current density of 0.5 mA cm^-2, and excellent cycling performance of 366 cycles (2,200 h)

Cognitive impairment in older adults is a major public concern for Kazakhstan’s aging population. We aimed to (1) administer a neuropsychological test battery (NTB) in domains relevant to aging-associated cognitive impairment in a sample of adults aged 60+ without dementia in Almaty, Kazakhstan; (2) investigate the associations between demographic factors and test performance; and (3) provide information on the distribution of NTB scores as preliminary local normative data relevant for this population. A cross-sectional evaluation of 276 participants aged 60+ in Almaty, Kazakhstan, was conducted using cognitive instruments including tests of memory, attention, language, executive functions, visuospatial abilities, and processing speed. Multiple linear regression analyses were used to examine the association of demographic factors with neuropsychological test performance. The results from the regression analysis showed that those who are younger, have more years of education, are women, and are of Russian ethnicity had significantly better performance. The current study illustrated (1) the feasibility of administering the NTB to older adults in the general population in Kazakhstan; (2) the preliminary local normative neuropsychological measures; and (3) their independent associations with age, education, gender, and ethnicity. The findings are a platform for future research on dementia and cognitive impairment in older adults in Kazakhstan

liver-enriched gene 1a and 1b Encode Novel Secretory Proteins Essential for Normal Liver Development in Zebrafish

liver-enriched gene 1 (leg1) is a liver-enriched gene in zebrafish and encodes a novel protein. Our preliminary data suggested that Leg1 is probably involved in early liver development. However, no detailed characterization of Leg1 has been reported thus far. We undertook both bioinformatic and experimental approaches to study leg1 gene structure and its role in early liver development. We found that Leg1 identifies a new conserved protein superfamily featured by the presence of domain of unknown function 781 (DUF781). There are two copies of leg1 in zebrafish, namely leg1a and leg1b. Both leg1a and leg1b are expressed in the larvae and adult liver with leg1a being the predominant form. Knockdown of Leg1a or Leg1b by their respective morpholinos specifically targeting their 5′-UTR each resulted in a small liver phenotype, demonstrating that both Leg1a and Leg1b are important for early liver development. Meanwhile, we found that injection of leg1-ATGMO, a morpholino which can simultaneously block the translation of Leg1a and Leg1b, caused not only a small liver phenotype but hypoplastic exocrine pancreas and intestinal tube as well. Further examination of leg1-ATGMO morphants with early endoderm markers and early hepatic markers revealed that although depletion of total Leg1 does not alter the hepatic and pancreatic fate of the endoderm cells, it leads to cell cycle arrest that results in growth retardation of liver, exocrine pancreas and intestine. Finally, we proved that Leg1 is a secretory protein. This intrigued us to propose that Leg1 might act as a novel secreted regulator that is essential for liver and other digestive organ development in zebrafish
