Evaluation of the Overheight Detection System Effectiveness at Eklutna Bridge
The Eklutna River/Glenn Highway bridge has sustained repeated impacts from overheight trucks. In 2006, ADOT&PF installed an overheight vehicle warning system. The system includes laser detectors, alarms, and message boards. Since installation, personnel have
seen no new damage, and no sign that the alarm system has been triggered. Although this is good news, the particulars are a mystery: Is the system working? Is the presence of the equipment enough to deter drivers from gambling with a vehicle that might be over the
height limit? Is it worth installing similar systems at other overpasses? This project is examining the bridge for any evidence of damage, and is fitting the system with a datalogger to record and video any events that trigger the warning system. Finally, just to be sure, researchers will test the system with (officially) overheight vehicles. Project results will help ADOT&PF determine if this system is functioning, and if a similar system installed at other bridges would be cost-effective.Fairbanks North Star Boroug
A New Test of the Martingale Difference Hypothesis
In this paper we propose a new class of tests for the martingale difference hypothesis based on the moment conditions derived by Bierens (1982). In contrast with the existing consistent tests, the proposed test has a standard limiting distribution and is easy to implement. Comparing with the commonly used autocorrelation- and spectrum-based tests, it has power against a much larger class of alternatives that may be serially correlated or uncorrelated. Moreover, this test does not rely on the assumption of conditional homoskedasticity and requires a weaker moment condition. Our simulations confirm that the proposed test is powerful against various linear and nonlinear alternatives and is quite robust to the failure of higher-order moments. Our empirical study on exchange rate returns also shows that the conclusion resulted from the proposed test is different from that of the conventional tests.autocorrelation-based test, Bierens’ equivalence result, martingale difference sequence, multivariate exponential distribution, spectrum-based test
Testing Over-Identifying Restrictions without Consistent Estimation of the Asymptotic Covariance Matrix
We extend the KVB approach of Kiefer, Vogelsang, and Bunzel (2000, Econometrica) and Kiefer and Vogelsang (2002b, Econometric Theory) to construct a class of robust tests for over-identifying restrictions in the context of GMM. The proposed test does not require consistent estimation of the asymptotic covariance matrix but relies on kernel-based normalizing matrices to eliminate the nuisance parameters in the limit. Moreover, the proposed test is valid for any consistent GMM estimator, in contrast with the conventional test that requires the optimal GMM estimator, and hence is easy to implement. Our simulations show that the proposed test is properly sized and may even be more powerful than the conventional test computed with an inappropriate user-chosen parameter.generalized method of moments, kernel function, KVB approach, overidentifying restrictions, robust test
Comparison of Support Vector Machine and Back Propagation Neural Network in Evaluating the Enterprise Financial Distress
Recently, applying the novel data mining techniques for evaluating enterprise
financial distress has received much research alternation. Support Vector
Machine (SVM) and back propagation neural (BPN) network has been applied
successfully in many areas with excellent generalization results, such as rule
extraction, classification and evaluation. In this paper, a model based on SVM
with Gaussian RBF kernel is proposed here for enterprise financial distress
evaluation. BPN network is considered one of the simplest and are most general
methods used for supervised training of multilayered neural network. The
comparative results show that through the difference between the performance
measures is marginal; SVM gives higher precision and lower error rates.Comment: 13 pages, 1 figur
Karektor guru pendidikan khas aliran kemahiran berlandaskan nilai retorik dari perspektif pelajar pendidikan khas masalah pendengaran di Malaysia
Latar Belakang: Pendidikan Khas di Malaysia adalah satu usaha
yang berterusan untuk melahirkan insan yang berkemahiran,
berpandangan jauh, berupaya, beriman, berdikari, mampu
Namun begitu, masih belum wujudnya satu model standard guru
pendidikan khas terutamanya aliran kemahiran. Objektif: Kajian

A note on the extended dToda hierarchy
We give a derivation of dispersionless Hirota equations for the extended
dispersionless Toda hierarchy. We show that the dispersionless Hirota equations
are nothing but a direct consequence of the genus-zero topological recursion
relation for the topological model. Using the dispersionless Hirota
equations we compute the two point functions and express the result in terms of
Catalan number.Comment: Latex, 16 page
