    Calentamiento simultáneo microondas-radiación térmica

    In this article we present the results of the simulation of a hybrid heat treatment methodology for materials, by using electromagnetic waves in the microwave range and the thermal power radiation of an electrical resistance. This resistance was placed in such a way that only half of the solid (a two-layers sphere) receives its energy. Then, it was controlled to produce a constant and uniform heat flow. In addition, for the present case, materials with different thermophysical properties were defined in each layer, which were considered to be invariant both with position and with temperature. The heat flow was considered constant over time. The temperature profiles for each layer showed variations in time and position, so it was observed that this simultaneous heating eases the adjustment of these profiles, according to the needs of thermal treatment. Thus, the advantage of hybrid heating was evidenced.En este artículo se presentan resultados de la simulación del tratamiento térmico híbrido de materiales, utilizando ondas electromagnéticas en el rango de las microondas y el calor por radiación térmica generado por una resistencia eléctrica. La resistencia se ubicó de tal forma que solo la mitad del sólido (una esfera de dos capas) recibe la energía generada por ésta. Además, la resistencia se controló de tal forma que generó energía térmica de forma uniforme y constante. Igualmente, se definieron materiales con propiedades termofísicas diferentes en cada capa, pero invariantes tanto con la posición como con la temperatura. El flujo de calor volumétrico se consideró constante con el tiempo. Los perfiles de temperatura para cada capa mostraron variaciones en el tiempo y la posición, observándose que el calentamiento simultáneo facilita la manipulación de estos perfiles, de acuerdo con las necesidades del tratamiento térmico.     This paper present the methodology development used for characterization and implementation of a control and automation of a camera for curing and drying of Burley tobacco, done with the purpose of analyzing its three stages: yellowing, color fixing and drying.As first step, the paper gives to know the process that is important for air curing of Burley tobacco. As second step, analysis of heating and humidification of system is presented, for determinate the most adequate control system for maintenance the ideal conditions for curing and drying of Burley. Results are presented through figures and tables.Este documento presenta el desarrollo metodológico empleado y los resultados obtenidos en la caracterización e implementación de un sistema de control y automatización para una cámara de curación y secado de tabaco Burley. Esto se realizó con el propósito de analizar sus tres etapas: amarillamiento, fijación de color y secado.En primera instancia, se da a conocer el proceso que se debe tener en cuenta para curación de tabaco Burley en caney, al aire libre.     The following paper presents the main results of an exploratory research oriented to design and implementation of a pattern recognition system for flatfoot identification in children between 5 and 6 years. Patterns were determined from texture analysis of foot thermographic images, and from contour analysis of footprint images. For each case, an artificial neuronal network was trained, with base in a back propagation algorithm. In each trial, 70% of data were used for training, and 30% for validation.  For experiments done, success rates greater than 80% were achieved. The best results was reached with contour patterns reduced by PCA, in a binary system, with a success rate of 90.84% in cross validation. Results are a contribution to study of diagnostic techniques for flatfoot treatment through use of technologic tools.El siguiente artículo presenta los principales resultados de una investigación exploratoria, orientada al diseño e implementación de un sistema de reconocimiento de patrones para la identificación de pie plano en niños entre los 5 y 6 años. Los patrones se determinaron a partir del análisis de textura en imágenes termográficas del pie y del contorno en imágenes de la huella plantar. Para cada caso, se entrenó una red neuronal artificial con un algoritmo de retro propagación. En cada ensayo, 70 % de los datos se utilizaron para entrenamiento y 30 % para la validación. Para los sistemas experimentados se encontraron tasas de acierto superiores al 80 %. Los mejores resultados de reconocimiento se lograron para un sistema binario (pie plano, pie sano), entrenado con patrones de contorno reducidos por análisis de componentes principales (ACP), con un porcentaje de acierto del 90,84 % en validación cruzada. Los resultados logrados son un aporte para el estudio de técnicas de diagnóstico y tratamiento del pie plano, con base en herramientas tecnológicas

    Entropy generation analysis for the design of a flat plate solar collector with fins

    This article describes the optimal design of a flat-plate solar collector with fins, based on the minimum entropy generation criterion. The design parameters were optimized, considering entropy generation due to heat transfer and airflow. The latter has not been considered in previous works. The flat plate in the collector is assimilated to a finned heat sink. The dimensionless entropy generation variation is analyzed to increase values of the number of fins, as well as for different plate thicknesses and heights. We also considered variations in airflow velocity. Our data shows that airflow velocity greatly influences entropy generation. Values other than the optimum found, caused a considerable growth of total entropy. For a collector area of 4 m2, and an outlet temperature of 50°C, the optimum parameters that minimize the entropy generation rate were: 9 fins on each side of the collector plate, a height of 5 x10-2 m, a thickness of 25x10-3m, and an air velocity variable between 0.015 and 0.046 m/s. This development is relevant to the design of flat plate solar collectors, for grain drying applicationsEste artículo describe el diseño óptimo de un colector solar de placa plana con aletas, a partir del uso del criterio de mínima generación de entropía. Los parámetros de diseño para el colector, fueron optimizados considerando tanto la generación de entropía por transferencia de calor, como la generación de entropía debida al flujo del aire que circula por él, la cual, de manera general, no ha sido considerada en trabajos previos. La placa plana del colector fue tratada como un disipador de calor con aletas, y el valor adimensional de la variación de la entropía generada fue analizado para valores crecientes del número de aletas, de su grosor y altura, así como para diversos valores de la velocidad del flujo de aire en el colector. El estudio demuestra que esta velocidad tiene una gran influencia sobre dicho valor. Valores fuera del rango encontrado como óptimo en los diseños, ocasionan un incremento considerable de la entropía generada en el sistema. Para un área en el colector de 4 m2, y una temperatura de salida de 50°C, los parámetros óptimos que minimizan la entropía generada, fueron 9 aletas por cada cara de la placa del colector, con una altura de 5 x10-2 m, un grosor de 25x10-3m, y una velocidad del aire variable entre 0.015 y 0.046 m/s. El estudio desarrollad es de gran relevancia para el diseño de colectores solares de placa plana, en aplicaciones destinadas al secado de grano
