Constraints on the high-density nuclear equation of state from the phenomenology of compact stars and heavy-ion collisions
A new scheme for testing nuclear matter equations of state (EsoS) at high
densities using constraints from neutron star phenomenology and a flow data
analysis of heavy-ion collisions is suggested. An acceptable EoS shall not
allow the direct Urca process to occur in neutron stars with masses below
, and also shall not contradict flow and kaon production data of
heavy-ion collisions. Compact star constraints include the mass measurements of
2.1 +/- 0.2 M_sun (1 sigma level) for PSR J0751+1807, of 2.0 +/- 0.1 M_sun from
the innermost stable circular orbit for 4U 1636-536, the baryon mass -
gravitational mass relationships from Pulsar B in J0737-3039 and the
mass-radius relationships from quasiperiodic brightness oscillations in 4U
0614+09 and from the thermal emission of RX J1856-3754. This scheme is applied
to a set of relativistic EsoS constrained otherwise from nuclear matter
saturation properties with the result that no EoS can satisfy all constraints
simultaneously, but those with density-dependent masses and coupling constants
appear most promising.Comment: 15 pages, 8 figures, 5 table
Heat to Electricity Conversion by a Graphene Stripe with Heavy Chiral Fermions
A conversion of thermal energy into electricity is considered in the
electrically polarized graphene stripes with zigzag edges where the heavy
chiral fermion (HCF) states are formed. The stripes are characterized by a high
electric conductance Ge and by a significant Seebeck coefficient S. The
electric current in the stripes is induced due to a non-equilibrium thermal
injection of "hot" electrons. This thermoelectric generation process might be
utilized for building of thermoelectric generators with an exceptionally high
figure of merit Z{\delta}T \simeq 100 >> 1 and with an appreciable electric
power densities \sim 1 MW/cm2.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figure

H^+ -> W^+ l_i^- l_j^+$ decay in the two Higgs doublet model
We study the lepton flavor violating H^+ -> W^+ l_i^- l_j^+ and the lepton
flavor conserving $H^+ -> W^+ l_i^- l_i^+ (l_i=\tau, l_j=\mu) decays in the
general 2HDM, so called model III. We estimate the decay width \Gamma for LFV
(LFC) at the order of the magnitude of (10^{-11}-10^{-5}) GeV
((10^{-9}-10^{-4}) GeV), for 200 GeV\leq m_{H^\pm}\leq 400
GeV, and the intermediate values of the coupling
\bar{\xi}^{E}_{N,\tau \mu}\sim 5 GeV (\bar{\xi}^{E}_{N,\tau
\tau}\sim 30 GeV). We observe that the experimental result of the process
under consideration can give comprehensive information about the physics beyond
the standard model and the existing free parameters.Comment: 8 pages, 7 Figure
On The Low Frequency Quasi Periodic Oscillations of X-ray Sources
Based on the interpretation of the twin kilohertz Quasi Periodic Oscillations
(kHz QPOs) of X-ray spectra of Low Mass X-Ray Binaries
(LMXBs) to the Keplerian and the periastron precession frequencies at the
magnetosphere-disk of X-ray neutron star (NS) respectively, we ascribe the low
frequency Quasi Periodic Oscillations (LFQPO) and HBO (15-60 Hz QPO for Z
sources or Atoll sources) to the periastron precession at some outer disk
radius.
The obtained conclusions include: all QPO frequencies increase with
increasing the accretion rate. The obtained theoretical relations between HBO
(LFQPO) frequency and the kHz QPO frequency are similar to the measured
empirical formula. Further, the possible dynamical mechanism for QPO production
is discussed.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures, accepted by APSS, 200
Bridging the gap between stellar-mass black holes and ultraluminous X-ray sources
The X-ray spectral and timing properties of ultraluminous X-ray sources
(ULXs) have many similarities with the very high state of stellar-mass black
holes (power-law dominated, at accretion rates greater than the Eddington
rate). On the other hand, their cool disk components, large characteristic
inner-disk radii and low characteristic timescales have been interpreted as
evidence of black hole masses ~ 1000 Msun (intermediate-mass black holes). Here
we re-examine the physical interpretation of the cool disk model, in the
context of accretion states of stellar-mass black holes. In particular, XTE
J1550-564 can be considered the missing link between ULXs and stellar-mass
black holes, because it exhibits a high-accretion-rate, low-disk-temperature
state (ultraluminous branch). On the ultraluminous branch, the accretion rate
is positively correlated with the disk truncation radius and the bolometric
disk luminosity, while it is anti-correlated with the peak temperature and the
frequency of quasi-periodic-oscillations. Two prototypical ULXs (NGC1313 X-1
and X-2) also seem to move along that branch. We use a phenomenological model
to show how the different range of spectral and timing parameters found in the
two classes of accreting black holes depends on both their masses and accretion
rates. We suggest that ULXs are consistent with black hole masses ~ 50-100
Msun, moderately inefficiently accreting at ~20 times Eddington.Comment: 11 pages, accepted for publication in Astrophysics and Space Science.
