Magnetically-induced ferroelectricity in the (ND4)2[FeCl5(D2O)] molecular compound

    Get PDF
The number of magnetoelectric multiferroic materials reported to date is scarce, as magnetic structures that break inversion symmetry and induce an improper ferroelectric polarization typically arise through subtle competition between different magnetic interactions. The (NH4)2[FeCl5(H2O)] compound is a rare case where such improper ferroelectricity has been observed in a molecular material. We have used single crystal and powder neutron diffraction to obtain detailed solutions for the crystal and magnetic structures of (NH4)2[FeCl5(H2O)], from which we determined the mechanism of multiferroicity. From the crystal structure analysis, we observed an order-disorder phase transition related to the ordering of the ammonium counterion. We have determined the magnetic structure below TN, at 2K and zero magnetic field, which corresponds to a cycloidal spin arrangement with magnetic moments contained in the ac-plane, propagating parallel to the c-axis. The observed ferroelectricity can be explained, from the obtained magnetic structure, via the inverse Dzyaloshinskii-Moriya mechanism

A description of the electricity system in Spain since 2005 and the economic potential for renewable energy technologies

The energy system in Spain can be characterized as being high energy intensive when compared to the rest of Europe and because of its high dependence on imported resources (around 84%). The focus of this document is to explore a novel approach to describe, as part of this energy system, the electricity system in Spain since 2005 and the economic potential for renewable energy technologies (RET) to replace the electricity generated from fossil resources by 2050. The heart of the design and implementation of any RET policy should be the reduction or elimination of fossil fuel dependency. This document aims at describing the evolution of the Spanish electricity system in the last decade, and addressing the possible influence of certain factors in the design and implementation of the electricity system by using modern modeling technologies to evaluate the potential of RET. This will represent a novel approach to bridge the results from modeling technologies to policy makers. To ensure the credibility and reliability of the data researched, validation criteria has been used which includes the accuracy of information, the content (whether factual or opinion), time (limited to certain periods), format (validity of internet sources, journals, etc), authority (reputable authors and sources), objective reasoning, currency and links to other resources, and the quality of writings and its review among others. The proposed research approach follows a methodology where the first step is to understand the electricity system in Spain, followed by the definition of the model of interest (optimization models) and the design of three different scenarios (Business as Usual, FIT and High fossil prices) for the evaluation of the potential of RET, finishing with the analysis of the results from the model and data collected from the perspectives of what has been done in previous RET policies and plans, and the possible influence of factors such as organizations and corporations on those policies and plans. The results obtained from the model are analysed and compared to the Business as Usual scenario. The amount of electricity generated from fossil resources and to be replaced by RET is calculated using the scenarios, as well as the evolution of primary energy, imports, final energy consumptions and CO2 emissions. In order to test the applicability of this approach, the results of the model have been compared with the current situation of the Spanish electricity system. Calculations using capacity factors of the RET and their share in the current electricity generation are performed in order to identify the final amount of power (MW) to be installed in order to replace the electricity generated (GWh) by fossil resources by 2050. Based on the conclusions, RET has the potential to replace the generation of electricity from fossil fuels but improvements in the efficiency of RET will be needed. In addition, it is recommended that significant considerations in RET policy like the energy and electricity systems should be a strategic component of the Spanish policy system, be done in order to set the Spanish electricity system in a more sustainable path

Eco-efficiency in urban freight transportation: A bibliometric and systematic literature review

    Get PDF
Urban freight transport is currently of vital importance for the cities economic growth, but at the same time, it is one of the most representative sources of pollutant emissions. Although numerous models and approaches have been proposed that aim to improve the eco-efficiency of urban distribution, few have classified the available information by combining bibliometric and systematic analysis. The objective of this paper is to present a comprehensive science mapping analysis using a bibliometric analysis from 2004 to 2021 and a systematic review of the literature of the most relevant papers based on the identification of the attributes of the main investigations. In the systematic review, a search protocol was used to classify and index using a computer tool for the selection of keywords in the title and the abstract. The results showed that the first five most academica-lly productive countries are attributed 50% of the world’s academic production, in the same way, the five most cited countries concentrate 52% of the citations. The systematic review allowed us to identify: the lack of studies with validation with real field data, the trend of use of historical and real-time traffic records, and the prevalence of research towards optimizing operational logistics costs

Looking into literature in the field of circular supply chain and the subtopic from a customers’ perspective: A bibliometric approach

    Get PDF
In contemporary times, the integration of sustainable practices in supply chain operations constitutes a crucial factor that confers competitive advantages to enterprises. In this vein, circular supply chain strategies may lead to a reduction of waste and pollution by ensuring that resources are used efficiently and that products are designed to be reused, recycled, or repurposed. In this vein, customers are becoming more environmentally conscious and are increasingly seeking products and services that are produced sustainably, and demand transparency and accountability from the companies they purchase from. By implementing circular supply chain practices, companies can demonstrate their commitment to sustainability and build a positive reputation with customers. The main purpose of this research is to analyze the major contributions made in the field of circular supply chain, both from a general approach and from a customers' perspective (authors, affiliations, and countries), as well as the main areas analyzed by papers in both fields, and their intellectual structure. Data were extracted from the Web of Science database and analyzed using bibliometric techniques, particularly Bibliometrix® software in its version 4.2.1. The results show that these fields have increased in importance over time, especially in the last seven years, and that research trends are directed towards the implementation of new technologies that favor the circularity of the supply chain. It is concluded that the implementation of circular economy practices in the supply chain is vital for reducing waste and pollution by maximizing the use of resources and materials, requiring this approach the participation of all stakeholders, especially customers. In this respect, the subtopic from the customers' perspective demands further research efforts

    Get PDF
Background In today’s business environment, where sustainability has emerged as a strategic axis of business practices, the study of the link between human resources management and environmental management becomes increasingly necessary. In this sense, the present research focuses on analyzing the impact of Green Human Resource Management (GHRM) on the Sustainable Performance (SP) of Spanish wineries, as well as the mediating effect of Employee Wellbeing (EW) and Work Engagement (WE) on this linkage. In addition, age, size and membership in a Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) are introduced as control variables to increase the precision of the cause-effect relationships examined. Methods The study proposes a conceptual model based on previous studies, which is tested using structural equations (PLS-SEM) with data collected from 196 Spanish wineries between September 2022 and January 2023. Results The findings of the research reveal the existence of a positive and significant relationship between the GHRM development and the SP of Spanish wineries, as well as the partial mediation of EW and WE in this association. Conclusions The uniqueness and significance of this study can be attributed to several crucial factors. First, it enhances the understanding and knowledge regarding the advantages associated with GHRM development. Second, no prior research has conducted a comprehensive study on GHRM as a catalyst for SP within the context of Spanish wineries. Third, to the best of the authors’ knowledge, no previous study has analyzed the mediating role of EW and WE as mediators in the relationship between GHRM and SP of wineries
