Development of model for insurance risk management and its application to insurance companies operating in the Serbian market

    Get PDF
The literature on the topic of risk management in insurance generally separately treat insurance risk and insurance company risk, however such a separate treatment of risk excludes a third type of risk which is defined here, that is the risk of incorrectly calculating insurance risk, which causes uncertainties and disruptions in the operations of an insurance company and its concept of risk management arising from its activities. This paper presents a Model developed for insurance risk management and its attempt to assess the calculation of insurance risk. Also, the Model has been applied to the 2005 to 2010 results of five insurance companies in the Serbian market.Risk; Insurance; Management

MARKETING MIX STRATEGY DETERMINANTS AND SOCIAL MEDIA IN VETERINARY-BASED BUSINESS: EXPERIENCE FROM SERBIA

    Get PDF
The paper is dedicated to testing the entrepreneurial idea of founding a service micro company in the field of veterinary medicine - Animal Care. The starting point is the theoretical aspect of marketing mix services observed through the prism of a specific company in the field of agribusiness. For the needs of the research, secondary sources were used and a survey was conducted which gave the results of the influence of the elements of marketing mix services on marketing communication towards the users of the company Animal Care. It was determined that the effects of promotion, especially in the field of digital marketing, directly affect the increase in sales of products and services, and thus the satisfaction of consumers & users in veterinary services. The results of the research provided answers to research questions and helped the entrepreneur to understand that selected elements of the marketing mix help in the promotion of products and services of Animal Care companies. Respondents showed interest in using the services of the Animal Care company with the help of the Animal Care android application and website as a selected distribution channel, but also for the promotion of new services and offers of the company

EFFECTS OF SUPPLEMENTATION WITH VITAMIN E ON GENTAMYCIN-INDUCED ACUTE RENAL FAILURE IN RATS

A frequent administration of gentamicin in clinical practice has shown its bactericidal activity, and besides being vestibulotoxic it is highly nephrotoxic, which can further result in acute renal insufficiency. The study analyzed 24 Wistar rats, divided into three equal groups. GM group received gentamicin (100 mg/kg), GME group received vitamin E (100 mg/kg) and the same dose of gentamicin as GM rats, while the third group served as the control group and received saline (1 ml/24h) for 8 days. Pathohistological examination of the kidney tissues from GM group rats showed areas of coagulation-type necrosis in a large number of proximal tubules, while their glomeruli were considerably enlarged compared both to control and GME group rats. In GME rats, changes in glomeruli were less visible, while areas of coagulation-type necrosis were not found. Ā Biochemical analysis showed significantly higher values of blood urea and creatinine in GM group rats in comparison to C group and GME group (p<0.001). The concentrations of potassium in blood serum was significantly lower in GM group compared to control group (p<0.01), whereas the concentration of sodium was lower, however, without statistical significance. The concentrations of AOPP for GM group were significantly higher when compared to C group (p<0.001), whereas the values for GME group of rats were statistically significantly lower than AOPP recorded for GM group (p<0.001). Our experimental study has shown that gentamicin-induced nephrotoxicity can be significantly reduced by simultaneous administration of vitamin E.Key words: Gentamicin, vitamin E, nephrotoxicity, Wistar rat

Boiling and Condensation in Two-Phase System Transients with Water Hammer

    Get PDF
Water hammer in two-phase systems, induced by direct steam condensation on subcooled water or by separation of subcooled water column, results in the most intensive pipeline pressure surges. Amplitudes of pressure spikes along the course of these dangerous transients strongly depend on the condensation and evaporation rates. The present paper provides a literature overview of thermal-hydraulic models for the prediction of water hammer phenomenon in two-phase systems, together with an original mechanistic approach for the prediction of phase transition rates, based on the shape and size of vapor-liquid interfacial area and the phase transition potential expressed through vapor and liquid phase temperature difference. Available water hammer experimental conditions were numerically simulated with the new modeling approach. Driving parameters of boiling and condensation rates at the steam-water interfaces are evaluated, and a good agreement is shown between numerical results and experimental data of bulk two-phase flow parameters during water hammer transients

A compact system for simultaneous stimulation and recording for closed-loop myoelectric control

    Get PDF
Background.Despite important advancements in control and mechatronics of myoelectric prostheses, the communication between the user and his/her bionic limb is still unidirectional, as these systems do not provide somatosensory feedback. Electrotactile stimulation is an attractive technology to close the control loop since it allows flexible modulation of multiple parameters and compact interface design via multi-pad electrodes. However, the stimulation interferes with the recording of myoelectric signals and this can be detrimental to control. The work in this study was supported by the project ROBIN (8022-00243A and 8022-00226B) funded by the Independent Research Fund Denmark
