Filmfreiheit

Zum Beginn meiner wissenschaftlichen Arbeit erörtere ich die Gestaltungsmöglichkeiten des einzelnen Bildes bis hin zu einer komplexen Sprache, ihren Gebrauch hinsichtlich unterschiedlicher Erzählstile bzw. dem Anspruch des Erzählten und ihrer letztendlichen Aufnahme durch den Rezipienten. Im weiteren untersuche ich die Möglichkeiten sich filmisch auszudrücken und versuche die Aktivitäten hinsichtlich Produktion und Rezeption von zwei unterschiedlichen Spielfilmen zu erörtern. Ich habe mich im Wesentlichen auf das Hollywood-Kino und die damalige Nouvelle Vague hierbei beschränkt und habe dazu die beiden Filme »Ausser Atem« von Jean-Luc Godard und »Der Weisse Hai« von Steven Spielberg analysiert. Ich versuche diese beiden Filme aus zwei Blickwinkeln zu betrachten, aus der Sicht Produktion, welche Regeln und letztendlich Freiheiten hat man im allgemeinen einen Spielfilm zu gestalten und zum anderen welche Folgen diese Anwendungen von Regeln und Freiheiten schließlich bei der Rezeption haben. Aufschluss soll die Arbeit darüber geben, welche Überlegungen hinsichtlich der Produktion getroffen werden müssen, einen Film zu gestalten, der von einem breiten Publikum ohne Problem verstanden wird. Im weiteren erörtere ich wie man das Verständnis für schwierige Filme erweitern kann und wie man als Filmemacher ein Mehr an Freiheit erlangt

Winning Hearts and Minds in Civil Wars: Governance, Leadership Change, and Support for Violent Groups in Iraq

The “hearts and minds” model of combating rebellions holds that civilians are less likely to support violent opposition groups if the government provides public services and security. Building on this model, we argue that a political event that raises popular expectations of future public service and security provision increases support for the government and decreases sympathy for violent opposition groups. To test this argument, we leverage a unique research design opportunity that stems from the unforeseen announcement of the resignation of Iraq's divisive prime minister in August 2014 while an original survey was being administered across the country. We show that the leadership transition led Iraq's displeased Sunni Arab minority to shift support from the violent opposition to the government. In line with our argument, this realignment was due to rising optimism among Sunni Arabs that the new government would provide services and public goods—specifically security, electricity, and jobs

Emotionen in der Ökonomie

Bisherige ökonomische Modelle erklären das Zustandekommen von Handlungen primär durch den Wunsch, mit möglichst geringem Aufwand vorgegebene Ziele bzw. Absichten zu realisieren, also durch Unterstellung eines bestimmten Typs von Rationalität, nämlich ökonomischer Zweckrationalität. Lassen sich Handlungen nicht mehr alleine durch die Voraussetzung dieser Art von Rationalität bei den Handelnden erklären, werden sie als Ausnahmen oder Anomalien betrachtet. Bei vielen dieser Anomalien lassen sich emotionale Einflüsse vermuten. Gelänge es nun, diese emotionalen Einflüsse für das Zustandkommen von Handlungen näher zu bestimmen, könnten ökonomische Modelle in ihrer Reichweite und Aussagekraft beim Erklären von Handlungen verbessert werden. Deshalb lautet meine Hauptfragestellung: inwieweit bestimmen Emotionen unser wirtschaftliches Handeln? An welchen Stellen und auf welche Weise spielen sie bei zweckrationalen Entscheidungen eine Rolle? Zweckrationalität besteht darin, effektive Mittel für bestimmte Ziele zu benennen. Voraussetzung dafür ist es, Ziele zu haben. Deshalb wird eine zweite Frage lauten: wie können Emotionen die teleologische Gerichtetheit, die Ziele oder Zwecke unserer zweckrationalen Handlungen bestimmen oder mitbestimmen? Diese Frage spielt vor allem auf unsere Motivation an: würden wir mit bestimmten Zielen keine Emotionen verbinden, würden uns viele Handlungen sinnlos erscheinen. Emotionen sorgen für die Ziele, die dann mittels Zweckrationalität in Angriff genommen werden können. Eine Frage betrachtet den umgekehrten Fall: Lassen sich Emotionen instrumentalisieren, indem bestimmte Emotionen manipuliert oder modifiziert werden, um bestimmte Ziele zu erreichen? Schlussendlich bleiben noch die Kosten (Zeit, Mühe, Aufwendungen, psychischer und monetärer Art) einer solchen Investition zu erwägen. ..

ESTUDO EXPERIMENTAL DE REFORÇO DE PILARES UTILIZANDO CONCRETO AUTO ADENSÁVEL

Este artigo apresenta um estudo do comportamento de pilares de concreto armado solicitados à compressão e excentricidade em apenas uma direção, com uma seção inicial de 120 mm x 250 mm e altura de 2000 mm, reforçados na região comprimida com uma camada de 35 mm de concreto auto adensável. Um dos problemas encontrados foi o desplacamento da camada de concreto do reforço próximo à carga de ruptura, sendo necessários outros estudos para solucionar esse fato. Ocorreu ainda uma redução dos deslocamentos horizontais dos pilares, devido à diminuição da ductilidade. Esses resultados mostram a eficiência da técnica de reforço adotada

ESTUDO DO COMPORTAMENTO DE VIGAS MÉTALICAS COM LIGAÇÕES PARAFUSADAS

Este artigo tem por objetivo analisar a capacidade resistente de vigas bi apoiadas em aço constituídas de perfis tipo I laminados de abas paralelas com dois eixos de simetria, sendo dotadas de emendas com parafusos de alta resistência do tipo ASTM A325 de diâmetro 19 mm, estando os modelos solicitados por esforços de flexão simples. Todas as vigas foram ensaiadas até a ruptura, ruptura esta, apresentada fora das ligações, se mantendo íntegros tanto as chapas de ligação quanto os parafusos conectados. As vigas ensaiadas apresentaram carga de ruptura entre 73% para a viga V3L e 82% para a viga V1L com relação à viga de referência VREF que não possui ligações

Anion gap, anion gap corrected for albumin, base deficit and unmeasured anions in critically ill patients: implications on the assessment of metabolic acidosis and the diagnosis of hyperlactatemia

Abstract Background Base deficit (BD), anion gap (AG), and albumin corrected anion gap (ACAG) are used by clinicians to assess the presence or absence of hyperlactatemia (HL). We set out to determine if these tools can diagnose the presence of HL using cotemporaneous samples. Methods We conducted a chart review of ICU patients who had cotemporaneous arterial blood gas, serum chemistry, serum albumin (Alb) and lactate(Lac) levels measured from the same sample. We assessed the capacity of AG, BD, and ACAG to diagnose HL and severe hyperlactatemia (SHL). HL was defined as Lac > 2.5 mmol/L. SHL was defined as a Lac of > 4.0 mmol/L. Results From 143 patients we identified 497 series of lab values that met our study criteria. Mean age was 62.2 ± 15.7 years. Mean Lac was 2.11 ± 2.6 mmol/L, mean AG was 9.0 ± 5.1, mean ACAG was 14.1 ± 3.8, mean BD was 1.50 ± 5.4. The area under the curve for the ROC for BD, AG, and ACAG to diagnose HL were 0.79, 0.70, and 0.72, respectively. Conclusion AG and BD failed to reliably detect the presence of clinically significant hyperlactatemia. Under idealized conditions, ACAG has the capacity to rule out the presence of hyperlactatemia. Lac levels should be obtained routinely in all patients admitted to the ICU in whom the possibility of shock/hypoperfusion is being considered. If an AG assessment is required in the ICU, it must be corrected for albumin for there to be sufficient diagnostic utility.</p

Vampires in the village Žrnovo on the island of Korčula: following an archival document from the 18th century

Središnja tema rada usmjerena je na raščlambu spisa pohranjenog u Državnom arhivu u Mlecima (fond: Capi del Consiglio de’ Dieci: Lettere di Rettori e di altre cariche) koji se odnosi na događaj iz 1748. godine u korčulanskom selu Žrnovo, kada su mještani – vjerujući da su se pojavili vampiri – oskvrnuli nekoliko mjesnih grobova. U radu se podrobno iznose osnovni podaci iz spisa te rečeni događaj analizira u širem društvenom kontekstu i prate se lokalna vjerovanja.The main interest of this essay is the analysis of the document from the State Archive in Venice (file: Capi del Consiglio de’ Dieci: Lettere di Rettori e di altre cariche) which is connected with the episode from 1748 when the inhabitants of the village Žrnove on the island of Korčula in Croatia opened tombs on the local cemetery in the fear of the vampires treating. This essay try to show some social circumstances connected with this event as well as a local vernacular tradition concerning superstitions
