    International audienceTwo new fossil species of the extant genus Dissorhina Hull, 1916 (Oribatida, Oppiidae) are described from Pliocene clastic sediments in Trhlovca cave of the Slovenian Classical Karst (Kras): Dissorhina paleokrasica n. sp. and Dissorhina nuda n. sp.. Diagnoses of both new species are given on the basis of detailed study of few damaged adult individuals obtained by sieving. Relationships to recent species of the genus and the possible importance of the Balkan Peninsula for the speciation of Dissorhina are discussed

    Factors Associated with Anemia Among Adolescence Girls at SMAN 1 Telukjambe Kabupaten Karawang in 2015

    This study aimed to determine factors related to anemia among adolescent girls at the SMAN 1 Telukjambe Kabupaten Karawang in December 2015. A cross-sectional study is conducted to determine the hemoglobin, food intake, physical examination. A total of 92 girls selected in random. An interviewer-administered questionnaire was used to collect information on their characteristics and food consumption, knowledge ofanemia, infections, and other, other relevant factors. The prevalence was a measured percentage and the association between anemia and identified factors explored through bivariate analyses. The results showed that the prevalence of anemia was 44.6%; consumption of protein, fruit, and knowledge significant associated with anemia but not other factors. Keywords: Anemia, Adolescence girls

    Beyond the Linearity of Current-Voltage Characteristics in Multiwalled Carbon Nanotubes

    We present local and non-local electron transport measurements on individual multi-wall nanotubes for bias voltage between 0 and about 4 V. Local current-voltage characteristics are quite linear. In contrast, non-local measurements are highly non-linear; the differential non-local conductance can even become negative in the high-bias regime. We discuss the relationship between these results and transport parameters such as the elastic length, the number of current carrying shells, and the number of conducting modes.Comment: 5 pages, 5 figure

    Geochemical Baseline Mapping of Soils Developed on Diverse Bedrock from Two Regions in Croatia

    The comparison of contents and distribution maps for Al, As, Ba, Ca, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, La, K, Na, Ni, Mg, Mn, P, Pb, Sc, Sr, Ti, Th, V, Y, Zn and Hg in the topsoil cover of two typical regions are given. One is a carbonate bedrock (karst) dominated region (southern Dalmatia) and the other a non-carbonate bedrock dominated region (NW Croatia). The results imply that the soils developed on carbonate bedrock have higher mean values of almost all elements excluding K, Na, Mg and Ba, which are lower in carbonate terrains. In comparison with the non-carbonate terrains, for the carbonate terrains the following elements have higher mean concentrations: Al, As, Co, Cu, Fe, La, Mn, Pb, Ni, Mn, Th, V, Cr, Zn, Zr and Nb, while Sr, P and Ti have similar contents. Approximately 4% of the sites can be considered as moderately enriched (polluted) in Pb, either from mining activities or airborne deposition. Only a limited number of sampling sites can be directly linked with mineralization. The derived factors are usually interpreted as associations of elements that imply a common source or behavior in regard to geogenic or anthropogenic influences. It was found that difference between the northwestern Croatia and southern Dalmatia is not expressed only by concentration differences but also by element associations. Five factor models accounting most of the data variability seemed appropriate to portray the geochemical variability within the topsoil of both region

    The influence of porosity on machinability of sintered fe foam elements

    The aim of the experiment was to study the machinability of porous metal foams formed by reduction of metal oxides during sintering. The analysis focused on the machining process of metal foams with respect to their porosity and mechanical properties. The factors investigated included the geometry of the specimens, the surface condition depending on the machining parameters (milling) and the porosity of the metal foam. The metallic porous structure was obtained as a result of sintering the mixture of iron based powders ASC 100.29 and DISTALOY SE (DIST SE) with porosity from 67,9 % (SE 1) to 77,8 % (SE 2) for ASC base powder and 75,7 % to 80.3 % for DISTALOY SE were used

    A Factor Model of the Relationship between Stream Sediment Geochemistry and Adjacent Drainage Basin Lithology, Medvednica Mt., Croatia

    A mathematical model is constructed to relate the geochemical composition of recent stream material in a number of catchments on Medvednica Mt. to a broadely defined bedrock lithology which represents the parent material for the former. It is a system based factor model, which synthesizes eight lithological and 25 geochemical variables (major, minor and trace elements), reducing their relationships to six geologically meaningful factors. Five of these divulged a definite relationship between geochemistry and lithology. These are labelled as follows: factor of metamorphic rocks; factor of igneous rocks; factor of Tertiary carbonate rocks; factor of parametamorphic rocks and factor of Mesozoic carbonate rocks. Two lithologies; the Mesozoic clastic rocks and Quaternary sediments showed no clear association to any of the factors. Alternatively, one of the factors (F2) can be identified as “non-lithologic” indicating other, perhaps anthropogenic, contributions to the stream sediment geochemical composition

    Scaling Law in Carbon Nanotube Electromechanical Devices

    We report a method for probing electromechanical properties of multiwalled carbon nanotubes(CNTs). This method is based on AFM measurements on a doubly clamped suspended CNT electrostatically deflected by a gate electrode. We measure the maximum deflection as a function of the applied gate voltage. Data from different CNTs scale into an universal curve within the experimental accuracy, in agreement with a continuum model prediction. This method and the general validity of the scaling law constitute a very useful tool for designing actuators and in general conducting nanowire-based NEMS.Comment: 12 pages, 4 figures.
