Purity in categories of sheaves
We consider categorical and geometric purity for sheaves of modules over a
scheme satisfying some mild conditions, both for the category of all sheaves
and for the category of quasicoherent sheaves. We investigate the relations
between these four purities and compute a number of examples, in particular
describing both the geometric and categorical Ziegler spectra for the category
of quasicoherent sheaves over the projective line over a field
Planning and monitoring the execution of web service requests
Interaction with web services enabled marketplaces would be greatly facilitated if users were given a high level service request language to express their goals in complex business domains. This could be achieved by using a planning framework which monitors the execution of planned goals against predefined standard business processes and interacts with the user to achieve goal satisfaction. We present a planning architecture that accepts high level requests, expressed in XSRL (Xml Service Request Language). The planning framework is based on the principle of interleaving planning and execution. This is accomplished on the basis of refinement and revision as new service-related information is gathered from UDDI and web services instances, and as execution circumstances necessitate change. The system interacts with the user whenever confirmation or verification is needed
Stamp duty on shares and its effect on share prices
This paper provides a discussion of stamp duty and its effects. This is followed by an empirical study using changes in the rate of stamp duty in the UK as natural experiments. Because shares will be affected differently depending on how frequently they are traded, we can employ a difference-in-differences methodology. We find that the announcements of cuts in stamp duty had a significant and positive effect on the price of more frequently traded shares compared to other shares. As expected under the efficient markets hypothesis, the implementation of cuts (when at a different date from the announcement) did not affect returns differentially.Stamp duty, transaction tax, Tobin-tax, natural experiment, tax reform
A Debris Backwards Flow Simulation System for Malaysia Airlines Flight 370
This paper presents a system based on a Two-Way Particle-Tracking Model to
analyze possible crash positions of flight MH370. The particle simulator
includes a simple flow simulation of the debris based on a Lagrangian approach
and a module to extract appropriated ocean current data from netCDF files. The
influence of wind, waves, immersion depth and hydrodynamic behavior are not
considered in the simulation.Comment: 7 pages, 14 figures, IEEE OCEANS 2016 - Shanghai, 10-13 April 201
