Sex Differences in Attributions to Positive and Negative Sexual Scenarios in Men and Women With and Without Sexual Problems: Reconsidering Stereotypes

People with sexual problems are more likely to attribute negative sexual experiences to themselves, in contrast to sexually functional individuals who attribute negative sexual experiences to external factors such as the circumstance or partner. We investigated attribution patterns in 820 men and 753 women, some of whom reported an orgasmic problem, to assess differences between the sexes and those with and without an orgasmic difficulty. Specifically, using an Internet-based approach, we compared attribution responses to four sexual scenarios, one representing a positive sexual experience and three representing negative sexual experiences. Women were more likely to attribute positive outcomes to their partner than men. Women were also more likely to attribute negative outcomes to themselves than men, but they more readily blamed their partner and circumstances for negative outcomes than men as well. Those with orgasmic problems were less willing to take credit for positive outcomes and more willing to accept blame for negative outcomes. Interaction effects between sex and orgasmic problems further highlighted differences between men’s and women’s attribution patterns. These results are interpreted in the context of traditional notions that men’s attributions tend to be more self-serving and women’s attributions more self-derogatory

Assessing the perceived impact of Computer-Assisted Instruction on physical therapy education

Computer Assisted Instruction (CAI) is becoming more common in allied health education. Research on CAI has provided mixed results. The purpose of this study was to compare uses of CAI in entry-level physical therapist (PT) and physical therapist assistant (PTA) programs. Secondary purposes included determining faculty attitudes toward CAI, determining how faculty select and evaluate CAI, and describing faculty perceptions of CAI and the computer-based licensing exam. Results indicate no significant differences in the amount of CAI in PT and PTA programs. Positive aspects reported include improved knowledge of technology and improved independence with information gathering. Negative aspects reported include cost and lack of time for integration. Respondents indicate that CAI can develop higher-level thinking skills when designed and integrated appropriately, however respondents agree that psychomotor skills should not be taught via CAI. Respondents were unsure whether high or low aptitude students benefit more from CAI, and they were unsure whether one type of learning style (auditory, visual, or kinesthetic) benefits more. Results indicate that programs do not have formal selection criteria, and evaluation procedures reported included student outcomes and course evaluations. Finally, 64% of PT and 56% of PTA respondents indicated CAI adequately prepares students for the licensing exam, and 34% of PT and 40% of PTA respondents indicated the computer-based licensing exam influenced their decision to integrate CAI. Six concepts describing participant\u27s perceptions of CAI in physical therapy education emerged from qualitative data. They were: (1) CAI develops computer skills, (2) CAI is an instructional tool, (3) CAI improves communication, (4) CAI can provide factual learning, but the instructor must use the CAI so that higher-level skills are attained, (5) Instructors must consider the context before integrating CAI, and (6) CAI has limitations

Serial homicide cases : patterns in dormant periods.

The study of serial homicide offenders has been extensively investigated, however, there is a significant gap in the literature with respect to the dormant period. Little information is available with regard to patterns, length, or specificity of dormant periods, specifically, pertaining to the offenders' individual/unique patterns. To investigate this topic, the length of the dormant period in serial homicide cases was assessed. In conjunction with the Radford University Serial Killer Information Center, the dormant period of 40 serial homicide offenders was evaluated. The study hypothesized that the duration of dormant periods in serial homicide cases could potentially demonstrate a quantifiable pattern to predict future offenses. Specifically, it was hypothesized that as the number of kills for a particular killer increased, the length of the killer's dormant period would decrease and level out to a predictable pattern. The ability to detect identifiable patterns in an offender's dormant period would allow law enforcement to assess a quantifiable dataset that could benefit them in ultimately apprehending the serial murderer. By establishing patterns in dormant periods for serial murderers, law enforcement could apply the same approach to other serial offenders such as serial arsonists, robbers, and rapists to determine the likelihood of if and when recidivism would occur. The results were not significant in supporting the hypothesis that as kills increase, the length of the dormant period would decrease (p=0.188). However, whether or not the offender was incarcerated during the period since the previous kill was found to be significant (p<0.001). Interestingly, when the data produced from one particular killer was excluded, the overall data showed significance (p<0.001)

The Role of Technology in the Development of PK-12 Teacher Leadership During COVID-19

In March of 2020, school buildings were closed in response to the global health crisis. Administrators and teachers alike were forced to reimagine education in order to meet the needs of students and the community, effectively over a single weekend across an ever changing landscape. Servant and distributive styles of leadership were needed to face these unprecedented, adaptive challenges and a “new normal” model of leadership rose to prominence. Because connecting in a virtual environment requires technological acuity in skill, pedagogy, and practice, effective teachers who had developed cultures of choice, creativity, and autonomy in their student-centered classrooms weathered this rapid shift more easily than others. These effective teachers modeled successful, productive communication and collaboration norms and many were called upon to share their expertise to support communication and collaboration norms and many were called upon to share their expertise to support dynamic, ever shifting pandemic conditions to identify how elements of technology interacted with teacher leadership identity and development by way of effective instruction, teacher voice, influence and reach, collegial interactions, recognition, and opportunity

Advancing Sustainable Food Systems in Minnesota: Strategic Planning Recommendations for Local Businesses

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study is to identify and understand strategic planning needs of small, local businesses that support sustainable food systems. Market sustainability and profitability are often thought to be in conflict with environmental sustainability. This research affirms that the concepts are in fact co-dependent, not mutually exclusive. In order to achieve competitive differentiation and market sustainability, companies must also recognize their reliance on finite environmental resources and strategically manage them in the long-term. Through interviews with local business owners, professional expertise and an extensive literature review, this thesis uncovers and highlights strategic planning best practices specific to sustainable businesses. The end result of the research is a set of best practice recommendations that can be realistically implemented

With the goal of increasing tourism rate, the government plans to reclaim Bali Benoa Bay and Pudut Island to build an integrated tourism area. This plan was rejected by residents fearing the loss of livelihoods and the natural environment is damaged as a result of reclamation, this negative impact was felt when the local government reclaimed the area of Serangan. The purpose of this study was to determine how online media Balipost.co.id and Kompas.com framed the reclamation cases in Bali Benoa Bay. This study used framing analysis, namely by selecting the news published in two online media from August the 1st to 10th, 2013. Result of the study was the differences in the framing of the news. Kompas.com tended to be impartial and focused on the elements of "how". While Balipost.co.id had taken a stance rejected the government reclamation plan and focused on the elements of "who" and "why". Suggestion from this study was the government should establish relations with mass media to communicate with the public, especially when there was a new policy involved
