Effect of fabric structure on liquid transport, ink jet drop spreading and printing quality

    Get PDF
The effect of fabric structure and yarn-to-yarn liquid migration on the overall liquid transport behavior of fabrics is investigated in this research. Sorption of liquid from an unlimited reservoir as well as sorption of a limited quantity of liquid by fabrics representing different structural parameters is studied in detail. Sorption of a limited quantity of liquid is studied by performing drop spreading experiments on fabrics. The spreading and wicking of micron sized drops which are deposited on textile fabrics during ink jet printing is also studied. How the fabric structure related variables influence the spreading of ink drops and how exactly spreading influences printing quality is investigated in this research. Results showed that the wicking in fabrics is determined by the wicking rates of the yarns, thread spacing and more importantly by the rate at which liquid migrates from longitudinal to transverse threads and again from transverse threads back to longitudinal threads. Drop spreading rates were also determined by fabric structure. In general, compact and thinner fabrics showed highest drop spreading rates. Drop spreading rates are primarily affected by the manner and the rate at which liquid migrates from yarn to yarn. Analysis of the results of ink jet printing of pigment ink on textile fabrics showed that excessive drop spreading and higher line widths were observed where continuous and narrow capillaries prevail on the surface of yarns. Yarn surface characteristics are more important than fabric construction parameters.Ph.D.Committee Chair: Dr. Radhakrishnaiah Parachuru; Committee Member: Dr. Dong Yao; Committee Member: Dr. Fred Cook; Committee Member: Dr. Wallace Carr; Committee Member: Dr. Yehia El Mogahz

    Get PDF
In all manufacturing plants the machines and equipment’s are influenced by deterioration in performance due to its age and use, obsolescence due to improvement in technology and failure due to unplanned maintenance Improper maintenance leads to unavailability of machine Hence the effective maintenance becomes useful in improving equipment life, reducing manufacturing cost, improving quality and minimizing the many unforeseen losses which are responsible for reducing the potential of the manufacturing plant. This paper addresses the issue by taking a case study of a manufacturing company. Detailed analysis and calculations are carried out on data collected through discussion, interview and observations. The overall equipment effectiveness (OEE) calculation is used to find out the current situation of the production system of the case company. It calculates the availability of the production system which shows that maintenance system’s effectiveness. The quality rate calculations of the work stations show the conditions of the machines and the worker’s skill and the calculations of the performance efficiency of the work stations show the utilization of the machines. The result of analysis is presented here with recommendations to the company

FINITE ELEMENT ANALYSIS OF WELDED JOINTS

    Get PDF
Fusion welding is one of the most used methods for joining metals. This method has largely been developed by experiments, i.e. trial and error. The problem of distortion and residual stresses of a structure is due to welding is important to control. Industry where the components are expensive and safety and quality are highly important issues. The aim of the work presented in this paper is to develop an efficient and reliable method for simulation of the welding process using the Finite Element Method. The method may then be used when designing and planning the manufacturer of a component, so that introduction of new components can be made with as little disturbance as possible. When creating a numerical model, the aim is to implement the physical behavior of the process into the model. However, it may be necessary to compromise between accuracy of the model and the required computational time. Different types of simplifications of the problem and more efficient computation methods are discussed. Simulations have been carried out in order to validate the models. Moving heat source and element death & birth technique is used to simulate Welding Process

The present paper explores the multicultural aspects such as cultural conflict, diversity, assimilation, ethnic diversity in the novel Seasonal Adjustments of Bangladeshi origin Muslim writer, Adib Khan. It is significant that Khan’s first foray into writing was about the experiences of conflict and adjusting a new culture. His first novel, ‘Seasonal Adjustments’ (1994) is a thoroughly absorbing account of culture, family and faith told by a man who has a tenuous relationship with all three. ‘Seasonal Adjustments’ went on to win the Commonwealth Writers Prize first book award, after winning several other awards. Adib’s characters struggle to identify with a nation, culture and family they are no longer familiar with. Adib Khan’s body works gives the impression on meditation on a theme, with its focus on loss, regret, secrets and family history, all played out against a backdrop of cultural fragmentation. In all his work, his preoccupation has been with identity, particularly identity of the migrant and search for self. Khan uses his own experience of cultural fragmentation to tease out the betrayals and inconsistencies, the idealism and the bigotry that infest nationalism, as well as illustrate the lack of secure identity for these who are alienated from their country of birth.

Anal fistula with Prepubic Space extension (Recto Inguinal Fistula) treated by Kshara Sutra and track debridement therapy - A Case Report

    Get PDF
Earliest reference about anal fistula is available in Sushrutha Samhita an ancient Indian surgical text book, written in 500BC. Different varieties of anal fistulae have been mentioned, like complicated tracts, curved tracts and fistula with multiple openings or those which take a round path to anal canal.[1] Such fistulae were common in surgical practice. Sometimes it is difficult to diagnose anal fistula, when patient presents with unusual signs and symptoms of disease. Ksharasutra (medicated seton) therapy is being practiced in India with high success rate (recurrence of 3.33%) in the management of complicated anal fistula

Rain Streaks Removal from Single Image

    Get PDF
Rain removal from video is one of the challenging problems. There are very few methods which address the problem of rain removal from single image. Existing methods removes rain streaks from video not from single image. These methods capture non-rain data from successive images. This data is then utilized to replace rain-part in current images. This approach removes rain streaks from single image. Morphological Component Analysis (MCA) [9 - 13] decomposes image into Low Frequency (LF) and High Frequency (HF) parts using bilateral filter. High frequency part is then decomposed into rain-component and nonrain-component by performing dictionary learning and sparse coding [2]. Non-rain component contains image features from which rain streaks are removed. Non-rain component is mixed with Low Frequency (LF) image component to form original image from which rain steaks are removed. The Morphological Component Analysis (MCA) [9 - 13] is a allows us to separate features contained in an image when these features present different morphological aspects. MCA can be very useful for decomposing images into texture and piecewise smooth (cartoon) parts or for inpainting applications. DOI: 10.17762/ijritcc2321-8169.150615

    Get PDF
The World Health Organization considers hypertension the most common health problem in today's growing population. Studies show that the rate of primary hypertension is about 85-95% and the rate of secondary hypertension is only 5%. However, homoeopathy is used as an alternative in such cases (i.e., HTN) but it has good clinical results in cases of HTN. Viscum album is a circulatory remedy and has been observed to lower blood pressure by acting on the circulation in many cases, but very little research has been done to prove this. This study aimed to determine whether the homoeopathic medicine Viscum album is effective in reducing blood pressure in participants with essential hypertension. Methods: This was a monocentric, Phase 2 clinical trial, single arm, single blind, and randomized, interventional study conducted in the outpatient department of Homoeopathic Hospital & Post-graduate Research Centre of Bharati Vidyapeeth (Deemed to be University), Pune. A total of 40 participants (male and female) between the ages of 20 and 75 were enrolled in this study. Blood pressure was measured in the sitting position using a sphygmomanometer according to standard procedures.  Result: The result was a decrease in blood pressure after 10-12 weeks of outpatient care. Significant reduction in blood pressure levels of hypertensive participants before and after treatment and in participants in remission. Of the 40 cases, Mean sBP before treatment is 150, in the same vein systolic blood pressure after treatment is 124.4; and Mean dBP before treatment is 94.9, where as in after treatment diastolic blood pressure is reduced with 79.2. The P-value is <0.0001. Conclusion: The homoeopathic medicine Viscum album produced a significant effect on lowering blood pressure levels in participants with essential hypertension. Further studies with control groups may provide a larger source of information to demonstrate that Viscum album is effective in the treatment of essential hypertensio
