Organization and Society: Understanding Corporate Social Responsibility and The Inclusive Business in The Peruvian Business Environment

    Get PDF
The concepts and terminologies that link the efforts of companies and society for poverty reduction are increasingly numerous and lend themselves to confusion, both conceptually and in their practical business applications. Terms such as inclusive innovation, inclusive business, corporate social responsibility, sustainability, and third sector-social enterprise, all, in essence, have some link between the vision of a business and its contribution to society through its management model. But in practice, that linkage does not mean that they have the same approach and objective. The abundance of terms makes it difficult to create more dynamic progress toward the common goals established by the United Nations at the World Economic Forum in Davos (1999). These goals emphasize the relevance of collaborative contributions from the business sector for the preservation of social values and global economic progress, as well as sustainable global development. In this work, our objective is to clarify two concepts of business management—corporate social responsibility and inclusive business—in the Peruvian Business Environment. This research is intended to generate clarity for future research that seeks to strengthen the link between business and society in Peru. We present, as an introductory framework, a brief review of scenarios related to world poverty, and, poverty in Peru

Investigation of metallic iron for water defluoridation

A Dissertation Submitted in Partial Fulfillment of the Requirements for the Degree of Master’s in Environmental Science and Engineering of the Nelson Mandela African Institution of Science and TechnologyFluorosis is a significant ailment that affects millions of humans and animals, especially in low income countries. It has been the focus of past and present scientific endeavours to research and develop efficient and deployable technologies, especially in these low-income communities. In this work, metallic Iron (Fe0 ) is a promising technology, and its filters have successfully addressed both safe drinking water and sanitation and are frugal. The recalled science of Fe0 filters is demonstrated with the lingering design investigations. This study aimed at the critical assessment on defluoridation efficiencies under conventional metallic iron aqueous systems; where at first, Fe0 materials were characterized with 1,10 Phenanthroline (Phen) in aqueous condition, and later batch studies were realized at the laboratory scale for two days under varied experimental conditions of: (a) 0.1 g and 1.0 g of iron mass, (b) Equimolar contamination, 23±2.0 mg/L, of co-solutes, i.e. NO3, PO4, SO4, HCO3, Cl, (c) Initial pH values of 4.5, 7.0 and 9.5, and (d) Disturbed and non-disturbed treatments. Characterization results proved the potential of 1,10-Phenanthroline as a sole Fe0 novel and facile characterization method. Defluoridation results revealed a maximum of 94% and 47% for quantitative (involving co precipitation, adsorption and occasionally size-exclusion remediations) and non-quantitative (associated with adsorption as major remediation means) fluoride removal efficiencies, respectively. Thus, a conventional metallic iron aqueous system requires incorporating suggested nano-scale practices towards enhancing efficiency for affordable defluoridation achievements in future continuous system designs

The aims of this research are to know the concentration, exposure time and interaction between concentration and exposure time of Ocimum sanctum Linn. leaves ethanol extract which cause the most mortality toward Fasciola gigantica. Also to know its value of LC50 and LC90. The research was completely randomized design. There were five treatments. Each treatment was done in four replications and used 10 Fasciola gigantica. The observation and recording of dead Fasciola gigantica were done at 0, 2, 4, 6, 8 and 10 hours. Fasciola gigantica were declared dead if there was no movement when disturbed by anatomy tweezers and when dipped in slightly warm water (50ºC). The obtained data was analyzed using ANOVA Factorial and continued with Duncan Multiple Range Test. The result was 10% concentration and exposure time for 10 hours caused the most mortality toward Fasciola gigantica. However, the interaction between concentration and exposure time resulted that 5% concentration for 8 hours already caused the most mortality of Fasciola gigantica. Probit analysis was used to calculate the LC50 and LC90. The results were LC50 of Ocimum sanctum Linn. leaves ethanol extract was 7.9% at 4 hours, 3.7% at 6 hours, 1.8% at 8 hours and 0.8% at 10 hours and the LC90 was 8.4% at 10 hours. Key words: Ocimum sanctum Linn. leaves, Fasciola gigantica, ethanol extract, in vitro

    Get PDF
