Oculometer for remote tracking of eye movement
Prototype oculometer which tracks lateral eye position and measures the direction of the eyes optical axis, pupil size, and blink occurrence performs measurements on the subject on a real-time basis from a remote location
Correlations in nuclear energy recurrence relations
The excitation energies of states belonging to the ground state bands of
heavy even-even nuclei are analysed using recurrence relations. Excellent
agreement with experimental data at the 10 keV level is obtained by taking into
account strong correlations which emerge in the analysis. This implies that the
excitation energies can be written as a polynomial of maximum degree four in
the angular momentum.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figure, 1 table, 9 reference

Can Diet Help Non-Obese Individuals with Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD)?
Subjects diagnosed with non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) or hepatic steatosis are usually obese or overweight. NAFLD has also been reported in many non-obese healthy subjects as an incidental finding during imaging. Subjects with early-stage NAFLD who are otherwise healthy are often left unmanaged in current clinical practice; it is not clear if an early intervention in those individuals would be of any benefit in preventing NAFLD progression to more serious conditions. Since many of these subjects are non-alcoholic and have a normal body mass index (BMI), an intensive lifestyle change program is not usually recommended. This report presents an otherwise healthy non-alcoholic subject with incidental NAFLD having a normal BMI and a waist circumference below 90 cm who successfully reversed his condition by undertaking a lifestyle intervention. The case report is expected to encourage large cohort studies to substantiate the benefits of dietary interventions in alleviating hepatic steatosis among non-obese individuals
Current and Shot Noise Measurements in a Carbon Nanotube-Based Spin Diode
Low-temperature measurements of asymmetric carbon nanotube (CNT) quantum dots
are reported. The CNTs are end-contacted with one ferromagnetic and one
normal-metal electrode. The measurements show a spin-dependent rectification of
the current caused by the asymmetry of the device. This rectification occurs
for gate voltages for which the normal-metal lead is resonant with a level of
the quantum dot. At the gate voltages at which the current is at the maximum
current, a significant decrease in the current shot noise is observed
Effects of Diffusion on Photocurrent Generation in Single-Walled Carbon Nanotube Films
We have studied photocurrent generation in large carbon nanotube (CNT) films
using electrodes with different spacings. We observe that the photocurrent
depends strongly on the position of illumination, with maximum observed
response occurring upon illumination at the electrode edges. The rate of change
of the response decays exponentially, with the fastest response occurring for
samples with the smallest electrode spacing. We show that the time response is
due to charge carrier diffusion in low-mobility CNT films
Universal Identities and Local Realities: Young Poland\u27s (Mis)readings of Synge
The problems Young Poland experienced in understanding the work of John Millington Synge were informed by precisely the same kind of behaviors that Daniel Corkery described in his argument for a truly native Irish national literature in the 1930s. Overcome by a strong sense of self, Poles were not fully able to appreciate the complexities and nuances of Synge\u27s work and by extension, the Irish-Ireland movement. In the end, then, Young Poland was incapable of really understanding the Irish, and so the best they could do was to associate with them. As a result, Poles may have been able to appreciate Synge as an original dramatic talent, but his place in the repertoire of the Polish theatre would be limited to meeting the internal cultural needs of Young Poland in the decades leading up to Polish independence
