Physical activity programs in older persons with Alzheimer’s disease: a need for dedicated trials

Recent works highlight the influence of different aspects of lifestyle on cognitive decline and the risk of dementia. Some data suggest that exercise could improve cognitive performance, especially executive functions and reduce the risk of cognitive decline and dementia in the elder. There is controversial data regarding the role of physical exercise on cognitive performance in older patients with dementia, which may be due to diverse study designs. Innovative interventional trials need to adapt their aims toward physical and cognitive changes in patients suffering from Alzheimer's disease (AD) in association with physical activity (PA). Future goals should include specific Adapted Physical Activity (APA) intervention programs on maintaining cognitive, emotional, and physical function in older persons with dementia at risk of rapid decline. Transformação dos principais usos da floresta no município de Moju, nordeste paraense.

As reflexões aqui apresentadas foram resultantes de uma pesquisa realizada na comunidade Santa Maria, uma das comunidades componentes do Assentamento Olho D?Água II, município de Moju, estado do Pará. O objetivo do artigo é analisar as transformações vivenciadas por um grupo de agricultores quanto ao uso da floresta, mais especificamente as associadas à obtenção de caças e à realização das roças, após a mudança da condição de uso comum (posseiros) para o uso privado (assentados) a partir da implantação do assentamento em 2002. Os resultados apontam que ocorreram transformações nas dinâmicas de uso dos recursos com a intensificação do cultivo de roças e a diminuição da obtenção de caças devido à grande dificuldade em obtê-las, em decorrência das novas condições de acesso privado à terra e ao aumento demográfico cuja demanda por caça supera em muito a oferta dos animais

Linear theory of nonlocal transport in a magnetized plasma

A system of nonlocal electron-transport equations for small perturbations in a magnetized plasma is derived using the systematic closure procedure of V. Yu. Bychenkov et al., Phys. Rev. Lett. 75, 4405 (1995). Solution to the linearized kinetic equation with a Landau collision operator is obtained in the diffusive approximation. The Fourier components of the longitudinal, oblique, and transversal electron fluxes are found in an explicit form for quasistatic conditions in terms of the generalized forces: the gradients of density and temperature, and the electric field. The full set of nonlocal transport coefficients is given and discussed. Nonlocality of transport enhances electron fluxes across magnetic field above the values given by strongly collisional local theory. Dispersion and damping of magnetohydrodynamic waves in weakly collisional plasmas is discussed. Nonlocal transport theory is applied to the problem of temperature relaxation across the magnetic field in a laser hot spot.Comment: 27 pages, 13 figure
