    Different readings and evoked conversations: A piece on the generative power of dialogue and co-thinking

    In this dialogic piece we insist on the value of keeping alive critical debates about how academic knowledge is  produced, when it comes to understanding the  complexities involved in laying bare the impact of socioeconomic and sociocultural differences crossing  borders and contexts. The climate for conversations about difference is constructed and moved by sentiments like rage, shame, guilt, and resentment but also connectedness and shared excitement. Human conversations across difference involve risk-taking but also engagement, evocation and inspiration. Here we make a humble intent to do so, taking as a point of departure our participation in a symposium held to launch Christina Hee Pedersen’s book Collaborative Research Methodologies (2021). We use collaborative writing as a method of inquiry to explore how our understandings of concepts like intersectionality, social in- and exclusion, social justice and different knowledge forms represent a challenge to academic subjects within a pronounced audit culture, fi lled with competition and unequal employment conditions.     Colonialidade de gênero e poder: da pós-colonialidade à decolonialidade

    Teorias anticoloniais analisam complexas relações de poder entre o colonizador e o colonizado para promover o projeto político da decolonização. Este artigo situa teorias feministas anticoloniais em relação a duas escolas de pensamento anticolonial, a teoria pós-colonial e a teoria decolonial, particularmente a vertente da teoria decolonial desenvolvida pela escola de pensamento Modernidade/Colonialidade da América Latina. Ele compara os principais argumentos teóricos e projetos políticos associados à interseccionalidade, ao feminismo pós-colonial e ao feminismo decolonial que María Lugones fez progredir com seu conceito de colonialidade de gênero. O texto explora ainda a recepção do trabalho de Lugones na América Latina e as percepções críticas que a teoria decolonial oferece aos projetos de justiça social contemporâneos.

Comparam-se os conceitos centrais dos argumentos teóricos e projetos políticos associados a interseccionalidade, feminismo pós-colonial, e o feminismo decolonial que Maria Lugones aprofundou com sua noção de colonialidade de gênero.  O artigo explora a recepção do trabalho de Lugones na América Latina e as análises que a teoria decolonial oferece para a criação de projetos contemporâneos de justiça social

    The author examines from a Latin American perspective, the debates of the sixteenth century on the “rights of the people” that examine the essential issue about who counts as “human”, issue no yet unraveled by the Latin Americans and the whole world. It deals with a question that has worried many feminists within the region, regarding their fight for extending human rights to women, beginning by the notion of the “right to be entitled to rights”. The hierarchical logic imposed in 1492 on the relationships between settlers and natives, persists nowadays and is reflected in the facts that are often accounted by the first pages of local newspapers in Mexico and Central America: violations, mutilations and the murders of women whose lives seem to be less valuable than others. The genocidal justification of the conversion has been metamorphosed, but remains present. In Latin America today, the discourses of modernization, capitalism, and democracy resemble the discourses of the sixteen century on “the rights of the people”. Both types of discourse hide the face of human sufferingLa autora examina desde una perspectiva latinoamericana, los debates del siglo dieciséis de los “derechos de las gentes”, que plantean la cuestión esencial sobre quién cuenta como “humano”, asunto aún no resuelto entre los latinoamericanos y el mundo entero. Se trata de una cuestión que ha preocupado sobre todo a muchas feministas de la región en su lucha por la extensión de los derechos humanos a las mujeres, comenzando por la noción de “el derecho por tener derechos”. La lógica jerárquica que se impuso en 1492 en las relaciones entre colonizadores e indígenas persiste hoy en día y se refleja en los hechos que a menudo dan cuenta las primeras páginas de los diarios locales en México y Centroamérica: violaciones, mutilaciones y asesinatos de mujeres cuyas vidas parecen ser menos valiosas que otras. La justificación genocida de la conversión se ha metamorfoseado, pero sigue presente.     Este breve artículo aborda en cuatro temas la forma en como tres imperios (chino, español, y británico) y los distintos procesos de colonización ibéricos y británicos se entrelazaron históricamente. Tomando el método de análisis comparativo en relación de Shu-mei Shih, se analiza brevemente lo siguiente: 1) la historia revisionista antieurocéntrica que suele incluir a Asia, pero excluye a Abya Yala de la historia universal; 2) la exclusión de los imperios ibéricos de las versiones convencionales sobre los imperios y la historia contemporánea universal, incluidas las teorías literarias poscoloniales; 3) la separación artificial de los imperios ibérico y británico y sus colonias en el llamado Nuevo Mundo; y 4) la colonialidad de la democracia o la expulsión de los colonizados del sistema de gobierno
