Continuation of the exponentially small transversality for the splitting of separatrices to a whiskered torus with silver ratio
We study the exponentially small splitting of invariant manifolds of
whiskered (hyperbolic) tori with two fast frequencies in nearly-integrable
Hamiltonian systems whose hyperbolic part is given by a pendulum. We consider a
torus whose frequency ratio is the silver number . We show
that the Poincar\'e-Melnikov method can be applied to establish the existence
of 4 transverse homoclinic orbits to the whiskered torus, and provide
asymptotic estimates for the tranversality of the splitting whose dependence on
the perturbation parameter satisfies a periodicity property. We
also prove the continuation of the transversality of the homoclinic orbits for
all the sufficiently small values of , generalizing the results

Two-loop helicity amplitudes for the production of two off-shell electroweak bosons in gluon fusion
QCD Coherence and the Top Quark Asymmetry
Coherent QCD radiation in the hadroproduction of top quark pairs leads to a
forward--backward asymmetry that grows more negative with increasing transverse
momentum of the pair. This feature is present in Monte Carlo event generators
with coherent parton showering, even though the production process is treated
at leading order and has no intrinsic asymmetry before showering. In addition,
depending on the treatment of recoils, showering can produce a positive
contribution to the inclusive asymmetry. We explain the origin of these
features, compare them in fixed-order calculations and the Herwig++, Pythia and
Sherpa event generators, and discuss their implications.Comment: 28 pages, 11 figures, 2 table
Theoretical Uncertainties in Electroweak Boson Production Cross Sections at 7, 10, and 14 TeV at the LHC
We present an updated study of the systematic errors in the measurements of
the electroweak boson cross-sections at the LHC for various experimental cuts
for a center of mass energy of 7, 10 and 14 TeV. The size of both electroweak
and NNLO QCD contributions are estimated, together with the systematic error
from the parton distributions. The effects of new versions of the MSTW, CTEQ,
and NNPDF PDFs are considered.Comment: PDFLatex with JHEP3.cls. 22 pages, 43 figures. Version 2 adds the

Femtosecond control of electric currents at the interfaces of metallic ferromagnetic heterostructures
The idea to utilize not only the charge but also the spin of electrons in the
operation of electronic devices has led to the development of spintronics,
causing a revolution in how information is stored and processed. A novel
advancement would be to develop ultrafast spintronics using femtosecond laser
pulses. Employing terahertz (10 Hz) emission spectroscopy, we
demonstrate optical generation of spin-polarized electric currents at the
interfaces of metallic ferromagnetic heterostructures at the femtosecond
timescale. The direction of the photocurrent is controlled by the helicity of
the circularly polarized light. These results open up new opportunities for
realizing spintronics in the unprecedented terahertz regime and provide new

NNLO soft function for electroweak boson production at large transverse momentum
The soft function relevant for the production of an electroweak boson
(photon, W, Z or H) with large transverse momentum at a hadron collider is
computed at next-to-next-to-leading order. This is the first two-loop
computation of a soft function involving three light-cone directions. With the
result, the threshold resummation for these processes can now be performed at
next-to-next-to-next-to-leading logarithmic accuracy.Comment: 16 pages, 3 figure
Threshold production of unstable top
We develop a systematic approach to describe the finite lifetime effects in
the threshold production of top quark-antiquark pairs. It is based on the
nonrelativistic effective field theory with an additional scale rho^(1/2) m_t
characterizing the dynamics of the top-quark decay, which involves a new
expansion parameter rho=1-m_W/m_t. Our method naturally resolves the problem of
spurious divergences in the analysis of the unstable top production. Within
this framework we compute the next-to-leading nonresonant contribution to the
total cross section of the top quark-antiquark threshold production in
electron-positron annihilation through high-order expansion in rho and confirm
the recently obtained result. We extend the analysis to the
next-to-next-to-leading O(alpha_s) nonresonant contribution which is derived in
the leading order in rho. The dominant nonresonant contribution to the
top-antitop threshold production in hadronic collisions is also obtained.Comment: 20 pages, 7 figures; v2: added a section on invariant mass cuts and

Non-planar master integrals for the production of two off-shell vector bosons in collisions of massless partons
Estimating the long-term impact of a prophylactic human papillomavirus 16/18 vaccine on the burden of cervical cancer in the UK
To predict the public health impact on cervical disease by introducing human papillomavirus (HPV) vaccination in the United Kingdom, we developed a mathematical model that can be used to reflect the impact of vaccination in different countries with existing screening programmes. Its use is discussed in the context of the United Kingdom. The model was calibrated with published data. The impact of vaccination on cervical cancer and deaths, precancerous lesions and screening outcomes were estimated for a vaccinated cohort of 12-year-old girls, among which it is estimated that there would be a reduction of 66% in the prevalence of high-grade precancerous lesions and a 76% reduction in cervical cancer deaths. Estimates for various other measures of the population effects of vaccination are also presented. We concluded that it is feasible to forecast the potential effects of HPV vaccination in the context of an existing national screening programme. Results suggest a sizable reduction in the incidence of cervical cancer and related deaths. Areas for future research include investigation of the beneficial effects of HPV vaccination on infection transmission and epidemic dynamics, as well as HPV-related neoplasms in other sites
