MENTAL HEALTH IMPACT OF STUDENT LOAN DEBT ON COLLEGE STUDENTS
This is a proposed study regarding student loan debt and mental health. This study would impact social work practice and education by understanding the mental health status of those continuing to pay off student loan debt. Student loan debt has become an enormous issue in the United States, with the average student carrying $37,000 in debt. Students are impacted financially and emotionally, and their overall well-being is compromised because higher education has become unaffordable for many without the assistance of student loans. Students need to understand the short and long-term implications of student loan debt, such as mental health issues and financial instability. Students should become aware of financial resources such as scholarships, financial counseling, and repayment/forgiveness programs to mitigate the implications of student loan debt. The target population of this study would have been current and graduated college students with at least one student loan debt. The study would have used surveys and interview guides to help understand the mental health implications that student loan debt proposes
Despite the need, benefits and effectiveness of the implementation of risk management systems, researchers say that organizations that have succeeded in implementing this practice are still in a small minority that doesn't exceed 25o/o. Due to the above, it is necessary to understand !he factors that affect the good use of risk management practices in projects developed in Colombia, to analyze the degree of commitment of managers and professionals involved in process. Thus. the present thesis aims to analyze the risk management in projects, specifically those executed in !he Mining Energy sector in Colombia, a sector that has become the most dynamic and important sector of the country's economy and therefore, a sector full of uncertainties with positive or negative incidents depending on their behavior; with the purpose of identifying those factors that affect it and knowing the causes that impede or make it difficult for risk management to be an efficiently implemented practice.
The purpose of the present study was to determine the relationship between the
position of the upper lip and the position of the maxillary and upper incisors in
subjects from 11 to 35 years of age.
The retrospective, transverse, descriptive and observational study was carried out
at a Trujillo Radiological Center and included a total of 120 lateral radiographs
chosen at random. The McNamara analysis (nasolabial angle, A-Nperp, maxillary
length, the distance from the IS to the point A) and Steiner's analysis (SNA angle,
upper incisor position, skeletal class, upper incisor angle and the distance from the
protrusion of the upper lip).
To evaluate the relationship between the position of the upper lip and the position
of the maxillary and maxillary incisors, the Pearson correlation coefficient was
used, with a significance level of 5%.
The results show that there is no relationship between the position of the upper lip
and the maxillary, however, there is a relationship between the position of the upper
lip and the position of the upper incisors.Tesi

Qualitative Contributions to a Randomized Controlled Trial Addressing HIV/AIDS-Stigma in Medical Students
Specialized training for healthcare professionals (HCP) in order to reduce HIV/AIDS related stigma must be part of a public health model for HIV/AIDS. Tested interventions to reduce HIV/AIDS related stigma among HCP have been mostly absent from these efforts. A qualitative approach was used to assess stigma reduction within a traditional randomized controlled design in order to better understand how our current stigma intervention worked and was understood by 2nd year medical students. After conducting a quantitative follow up survey one-year post intervention we conducted 20 in-depth qualitative interviews with a subsample of our intervention group participants as part of the overall evaluation process. Once the interviews were finished, we transcribed them and used NVivo (v.8) to organized the qualitative data. In the process of analyzing the qualitative data we identified core intervention areas participants described as useful for their training and development: (1) acquiring more HIV/AIDS-related knowledge, (2) increased skills for management of high stigma situations, and (3) the ability to identify socio-structural factors that foster HIV infection among clients. The gathered information is important in order to have a deep understanding of how attitudinal change happens as part of our intervention strategies
Filling the gaps in physician communication. The role of the Internet among primary care patients
BACKGROUND:
Millions of people use the Internet as a source for health information yet little is understood about how the use of the Internet for health information is related to the doctor-patient relationship.
OBJECTIVE:
We conducted the present study to understand the association between one’s interest in using the Internet for general and quality-oriented health information and attitudes about one’s communications with health care provider(s).
DESIGN:
Cross-sectional survey.
SETTING:
Four community-based primary care practices in Rhode Island.
MEASUREMENTS:
A single self-administered survey included items to measure: interest in using the Internet to look for general and quality-oriented information and a patient’s perceptions of the degree to which their doctors over the previous year have: 1) given them information and 2) engaged them in the decision-making process.
RESULTS:
A total of 300 patients completed the survey. Among patients without Internet access, interest in using the Internet for health related activities was less among patients who felt that their doctor gave less information: Odds ratio 0.83 (95% CI, 0.70 to 0.98) and greater among patients who felt that their doctor engaged them more in decision making: Odds ratio 1.3 (95% CI, 1.1-1.6). Among patients with Internet access, we found no relationship between interest in using the Internet for health related activities and measures of patient-physician communication or patient-physician decision making.
CONCLUSIONS:
Interest in using the Internet for health information is greater for those who 1) felt their doctors provided less information and 2) felt their doctors engaged them more in the decision-making process, but this is true only for those without access to the Internet
Pre-Visit Planning in Primary Care
Pre-visit planning is the process of collecting and organizing data prior to a patient appointment. The pre-visit planning process requires a team member to call the patient a week before the appointment through the use of a questionnaire form. This helps identify incomplete tests, screenings, immunizations and referrals that are currently outstanding. The pre-visit process results in scheduling needed appointments and lab work as well as gathering necessary information from the patient to streamline their upcoming visit. The use of pre-visit planning may result in improved patient satisfaction and decreased physician time with each patient visit.https://scholar.rochesterregional.org/nursingresearchday_2023/1016/thumbnail.jp
The case for biocalculus: Improving student understanding of the utility value of mathematics to biology and affect toward mathematics
The next generation of life science professionals will require far more quantitative skills than prior generations. Calculus is important for understanding dynamical systems in biology and, therefore, is often a required course for life science students. However, many life science students do not understand the utility value of mathematics to biology. Therefore, according to expectancy-value theory, life science students may experience lower moti-vation, which can impact their performance in a calculus course. This study examines how two different biocalculus courses, which integrated calculus and biological concepts and successfully halved the rates of students earning a D, F, or withdrawing (DFW), affected life science students’ utility value, interest, and overall attitudes toward mathematics. Using pre and post surveys, we found that students’ interest in mathematics increased by the end of the semester, and they demonstrated a more sophisticated understanding of how mathematics is used in biology. Students whose attitudes toward mathematics improved primarily attributed these changes to a better understanding of the utility of mathematics to biology, feelings of competence in mathematics, or rapport with the instructor. Thus, communicating the utility value of mathematics to biology through integrated mathemat-ics–biology courses can contribute to improved attitudes toward mathematics that can impact students’ motivation and performance
