Some Special Legendre Mates of Spherical Legendre Curves

Get PDF
In this study, we consider some special mates of spherical Legendre curves by using Legendre frame along spherical front or frontal on Euclidean unit sphere. In this sense, we define orthogonal-type and parallel-type spherical Legendre mates. After, we get some characterizations between Legendre curvatures of orthogonal-type Legendre mates. In particularly, when spherical front is a regular curve, we give relationships between Legendre and Frenet frame or Legendre and Sabban frame. Moreover, we obtain that the evolute and the involute of spherical front correspond to a second and third orthogonal-type Legendre mate of spherical front, respectively. After, we give examples for first, second or third orthogonal-type spherical Legendre mates of some special spherical fronts or frontals. Finally, we show that there is no parallel-type Legendre mates of spherical frontal

OBJECTIVE: The pathophysiology of coronary slow flow has not been clearly defined, although multiple abnormalities including arteritis, endothelial dysfunction, and atherothrombosis, have been reported. It is known that eosinophils play an important role in inflammation, endothelial dysfunction, and thrombosis. We aimed to compare the eosinophil counts of coronary slow flow patients versus healthy controls. METHODS: This study included 50 coronary slow flow patients (19 males, mean age 65.6±13.7 years) and 30 healthy controls (10 males, mean age 57.86±11.6 years). These participants were evaluated using concurrent routine biochemical tests as well as neutrophil, lymphocyte, and eosinophil counts and mean platelet volume (MPV), which were obtained from the whole blood count. These parameters were compared between groups. RESULTS: The baseline characteristics of the study groups were comparable. The coronary slow flow patients had a higher mean platelet volume and eosinophil count than the control group (8.38±0.86 vs 6.28±1.6 fL and 0.31±0.42 vs 0.09±0.05;

The aim of present study was to examine the associations among mindfulness and cognitive flexibility. The study group consisted of 244 university students, 187 female and 57 male. The age of the university students in the study group ranged from 18 to 34 with a mean age of 20.27. Mindful Attention Awareness Scale, Cognitive Flexibility Inventory and personal information form, which collect demographic information of the participants, were used in the data collection process. In order to investigate the relationships between mindfulness and cognitive flexibility (alternative and control), Pearson's product-moment correlation coefficients were determined. According to correlation analysis results, significant relationships between mindfulness and cognitive flexibility and alternatives and control, which are sub-factors of cognitive flexibility, were determined. Multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA) was used to determine whether the relationship between mindfulness and cognitive flexibility made a significant difference according to gender. According to the Manova test results, it was determined that gender has a significant effect on the relationship between mindfulness and cognitive flexibility. Simple linear regression analysis was performed to determine to what extent mindfulness predicts cognitive flexibility. As a result of the regression analysis, it was concluded that mindfulness explains 29.4% of the total variance of cognitive flexibility. Based on the results of the research, psychoeducational programs can be prepared to develop mindfulness and cognitive flexibility in activities performed in the field of guidance and psychological counseling

Objectives: To investigate the seroprevalence of anti-hepatitis E virus antibody among primary school children in the two different areas of Denizli, Turkey. Methodology: Anti-HEV antibodies were investigated in 185 primary school children (91 from rural areas and 94 from urban areas of Denizli). The children were divided into two age groups as seven-year old group and fourteen-year old group. Samples were tested for anti-HEV Ab by an enzyme-linked immunoassay. Results: A total of 23 primary school children were anti-HEV Ab positive, giving a prevalence of 12.4%. The seroprevalence rate was 13.1% in rural areas and 11.7% in urban areas. The difference in the seropositive rates was not statistically significant (p > 0.05). Among 185 primary school children, Anti-HEV antibodies were positive 17 (18.1%) in seven-year old group, and 6 (6.6%) in fourteen-year old group. The difference in the seropositive rates was statistically significant (p < 0.05). Conclusions: There was no association between the anti-HEV Ab and gender, socioeconomic level, parental educational level, rural or urban areas. Anti-HEV Ab seroprevalence was higher in seven-year old children than fourteen-year old children

Objectives: To investigate whether adding letrozole in the early follicular phase of a gonadotropin-releasing hormone (GnRH) antagonist (GA) stimulation cycle improves in vitro fertilization (IVF) outcomes in poor responder patients. Material and methods: To be included in this study, patients had to have had at least one previous GA cycle and a subsequent GA cycle with added early follicular phase letrozole (LzGA). A total of 41 poor responder patients were identified based on the Bologna criteria. Results: The LzGA group had a lower dosage of follicular stimulating hormone (FSH) (p = 0.001), the duration of stimulation days (p = 0.015) and the duration of GnRH antagonist stimulation days (p = 0.033) when compared with controls. Comprehensive analysis of the cycle characteristics showed that the number of oocytes retrieved, the number of MII oocytes retrieved, the number of fertilized oocytes, and the fertilization rate were significantly higher in the LzGA cycle (p = 0.041, p = 0.019, p = 0.008, p = 0.01, respectively). The rate of cycle cancellation was lower in the LzGA group (24.4%) than in the GA group (48.8%), (p < 0.001). Although LzGA administration demonstrated a trend toward improved implantation and clinical pregnancy rates, this was an insignificant trend (p = 1.000, p = 0.177, respectively). Conclusions: Adjunctive letrozole administration seems to restore an IVF cycle by improving the cycle characteristics and reducing the total gonadotrophin dosage.

BackgroundSince psoriasis is a chronic disease, it is not recommended to discontinue the treatment agents used. However, in real life, the treatment of psoriasis patients may be interrupted for various reasons. During the pandemic period, the treatment of many patients was also interrupted. ObjectivesTo evaluate relapse and clinical worsening in psoriasis patients whose biological therapy was interrupted during the pandemic and reveal associated factors. MethodsThe study included patients aged >= 18 years, who were followed up with moderate and severe chronic psoriasis controlled by the last biological agent [Psoriasis Area Severity Index (PASI) 75 response achieved] but had to discontinue their treatment during the pandemic. The patients' demographic and clinical characteristics, clinical course after the discontinuation of these agents, presence of clinical worsening, and relapse were evaluated. Risk factors were analyzed with the logistic regression analysis. ResultsThe study included 169 patients, with a mean age of 47.3 +/- 14.5 (18-87) years. The mean biologics-free time was 18.2 +/- 12.3 (2-56) weeks. Clinical worsening was detected in 41.4% and relapse in 48.5% of the patients. The significant risk factors for clinical worsening and relapse in both univariate and multivariate analyses were alcohol use during the biologics-free period, total time off biologics, and the presence of an additional triggering factor. The use of secukinumab and ustekinumab was found to be a protective factor against clinical worsening in multivariate analyses. ConclusionAs the biologics-free period is prolonged, the likelihood of clinical worsening and relapse increases, therefore, we do not recommend discontinuing biological agents

Introduction:Subacute sclerosing panencephalitis (SSPE) is a chronic, progressive, and degenerative infection of the central nervous system caused by measles virus. The first aim of this study was to assess the demographic and epidemiological characteristics of SSPE patients admitted to pediatric intensive care unit (PICU). The second aim was to determine the thoughts of their parents about home care.Methods:Patients with SSPE, who were admitted to our PICU between January 1, 2015 and June 30, 2015, were evaluated retrospectively.Results:Fourteen patients were admitted to the PICU for a total of 16 episodes. Ten (71%) patients were male and 4 (29%) were female. Male-to-female ratio was 2.5. The mean age of the patients was 16.25±1.14 years. Thirteen patients had received their first measles vaccine at the age of 9 months. Ten (71.4%) patients had measles infection at a later time after the vaccination and one (7.1%) patient had measles before vaccination. The mean age at the time of measles infection was 23.81±15.67 months. The mean age at the time of first symptoms was 8.64±3.33 years and the mean duration of latent period was 5.72±2.96 years. Thirteen (81.3%) patients were admitted to the PICU with pneumonia and respiratory failure, 1 (6.2%) was admitted with sepsis, and 2 (12.5%) patients were admitted with neurological problems. None of the parents accepted home care in the study period. Frequent power cuts (80%), poor housing and home conditions (70%), poverty (60%), worries of the parents about home care (60%), and household crowding (50%) were their reasons for not accepting home care.Conclusion:Patients with SSPE may require PICU admission and long PICU stays for respiratory failure and neurologic problems. Palliative care units may be an option when home care is not possible for these patients
